Can Blue Post Why Gear Swap Button Is Bad?

Blizzard, you guys suck soooo sooo bad. Keep making the game less fun. I will be buying Torchlight 2 and never another Blizzard game for the rest of my life. You guys are absolutely clueless. Good riddance.

Right now, we're opening discussion to the community on how best to move forward. We're considering a lot of different solutions (some of which were pulled from ideas posted in these forums) and would like your feedback. We realize that there are pros and cons to every solution we listed, and want to get your take on them as well. If you have alternative ideas, please feel free to share them!

i hope people read this and use this power well.
Stop making negative changes, that is all we ask for.

Adding a swap system like what Diablo 2 has with its swap system is nothing but a plus. More diablo, less WoW

Could you clarify this one a bit? WoW has a gear swap system and you say less WoW here so...just not sure what you are saying.
People DO NOT need to gear swap because we are already granted FREE MF from NV stacks.
ANY changing of gears should reset NV the same way as changing skills do.

^ agreed.

The amount of stuff that drops is already way too high. Going back to town every 7-8 minutes to get rid of gear isn't exactly fun, and that's farming act 3. For act 1 it's like going back to town every 3-5 minutes...
A great Idea is to eliminate MF and Elevate the percent give by the NV by 200 % -300%. Maybe 250%. Fair for all the community and also and extra idea is NV acummulate from level 30's 40's 50's too!!

PD: This solution include GF too!

Some of our developers and testers thought it was fun way to game the system, while others felt it was too much of a hassle.

There will always be the Yesmen and the Idontreallywannaplaythiswaymen.

The "majority" is who you need to please and as I can see from the MANY MANY posts, it's the majority who simply want an easier WAY to switch up MF gear, NOT TO BE punished FOR switching into MF gear.

The other...the "I don't really wanna switch into MF gear but I will because it'll get me more loot" people..They might qq a little bit but over-all, they'll be just as happy to have an EASIER way to do it.

As it stands, every option you have provided PUNISHES the player for swapping out MF gear. How is that fair to the "community" as a whole?

players who didn't really enjoy gear swapping or want to carry around an extra set of MF gear all the time, but felt like they had to in order to be as efficient as possible.

To this...well, it seems the easiest solution to me would be to put viable pieces INTO the game that ALLOWS me to run with fully efficient MF gear and not have to worry that I'm going to lose 19k dps because of it.

Pros and cons are one thing. These are outright punishments for the practice of MF gear swapping. Not right. Just not right.

So, when Wyatt says we "didn't have a problem with it philosophically," it means we were aware of the practice of gear swapping and understood that the player base had differing opinions on it, but didn't want to make any changes to it unless the community asked for it outright (since we knew it was fun for a select group of players). It did not mean it was deliberately a practice we wanted to encourage everybody to do. Supporting and promoting gear swapping by adding a button would only complicate the current problem of players feeling like the they need to gear swap in order to be really efficient, even if they don't enjoy it; it also increases the need for storage space (both server-side and in a player's inventory) and adds complexity to a UI that's otherwise designed to be very simple and straightforward.

This is where you are COMPLETELY wrong. Gear swaping sucks right now because it takes you 10+ clicks to do it. It's cumbersome and hard to navigate through your inventory and takes up so much time. I hate gear swap as it is right now and usually never do it but if it only required 1 click to do then there would be absolutely no problem with doing so and I would be relieved that the MF gear i purchased would still be viable in the game.

Uh...wow has gear swapping as a built in feature. While in combat you can only swap weapons, this much is still done - particularly by warriors.

A second paper doll fits that solution perfectly. An item that takes up one inventory space that allows you store a 2nd paper doll with MF gear on it. Make it so that you gain the combined MF of all gear stored on the "magic stone" or whatever you want to call it. At the same time, cap total MF at something like 350% so players don't simply use the stone and still get a 2nd MF set to swap.

Problem solved.

Players keep their MF set and nothing is nerfed. UI stays in tact. No gear swapping or hotkey recquired.

If there is something I am missing that makes this unfeasable (maybe its impossible to code I don't know) I'd understand that but at the moment I can think of nothing better than this solution.

MF becomes a junk stat. For any given slot you'll want a simple blue item with the maximum MF on it. MF appearing on otherwise good quality items will be useless, instead of making the item even better.

honestly.... shouldnt you be opening a discussion with the community on other, far worse probems then this...
Imprement a secondary equipment tab, switchable by hotkey.

But, make it so that if you have no item in a slot of your secondary tab, then your item in the corresponding slot in the primary tab is used.

This way we don't have to equip a full secondary set, but only those pieces we want to switch for pieces that have higher MF.

Why, if you have no philosophical problem with MF gear swapping, did you not include an option to have a gear swap button/alternative gear set?

Parting the veils a little bit here...

There was some debate about Magic Find gear swapping before the game shipped. Some of our developers and testers thought it was fun way to game the system, while others felt it was too much of a hassle. In the end, we decided to allow gear swapping, thinking that the players who wanted to do it would, and the players who don't enjoy the practice wouldn't. Of course, what actually happened is that some players got caught in the crossfire -- players who didn't really enjoy gear swapping or want to carry around an extra set of MF gear all the time, but felt like they had to in order to be as efficient as possible.

So, more or less this:

because it is the same issue we having right now?

the idea is TO FIX PLAYERS SWAPPING TO MF GEAR BEFORE SOMETHING DIES.
NOT MAINSTREAM IT.

(By the way, saying that you'd prefer a button over the other options is totally valid feedback, but just keep in mind that our goal is to come up with a viable solution to the problem of players feeling like they need to gear swap even if they don't actually feel like it's fun gameplay.)

Stop modifying the game!! PLEASE!

1.- You just nerfed MF in chests and vases/environment, why are you bothering with this? Since the amount of people complaining about switching gear is so little, to me, this sounds like another excuse to nerf MF and maximize profit from Real Money Auction House.

2.- Spending time opening chests, breaking vases and other environment stuff is not rewarding anymore since MF doesn't work on that, they don't even drop good amount of gold! I'd rather have you delete stuff you interact with. You are making this game like a race: Ready, Set, GO!, kill champions and monsters on your way, race to the boss, Finished!
Where is the role playing part? People skipping cut scenes, ignoring breakable stuff, what's next? Why did you bother designing the background anyways?

3.- What's the point of changing the way MF works? You are just making the game easier for people that complain about carrying MF gear. Players should plan their build and MF according to their needs. Sacrificing a gear affix for MF should be considered rewarding and challenging. Stop making the game so standardized making everyone wearing the same.

But perhaps that problem itself would no longer exist if players had the option to swap easily with a single button. Yes, some people might still think "Well, I wish I didn't feel the need to hit the gear swap button right before something dies", but the whole point here should be making the system that is most fun for the most people right? So there's really no reason to outright dismiss it - with increased ease of use the population of people "caught in the crossfire" might very well be dwarfed by the population of people who enjoy the system.

In addition, having the ability to swap to an alternate gear set opens up a lot more gameplay than just "swap right before a kill". I suspect there are plenty of builds out there that could find a use for gear-swapping at various points.
Like I said in a previous post just buff the drops of white mobs so having mf as a passive stat is viable for magic find and more beneficial than it is to swap gears for killing blows on one mob for huge rewards
Issue is how can having more mf be a bad thing? Why would people be so opposed have another mf set and the ability to hot swap it with a push of a button. MF only helps the item hunt. I think if mf becomes mainstream and more accessible then people will start to like it more.
