Diablo® III

Diablo 3 has stopped working

(Locked)

I get " Diablo 3 has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working " every 2 hours or so of gameplay. It is not confined to any specific area, it just happens randomly. The game doesn't even slow down, lag, or do anything indicating an impending crash. It simply minimizes to "Diablo 3 has stopped working."

Here is my dxdiag

Let us know if it's reproducible or reoccurring. Otherwise, there's not much we can do.

id say its a reoccurring proplem since ppl keep posting about it so they should definitely fix it.

I think my case is different. Theres no freeze or any indication of one. I am simply playing smoothly then all of a sudden i get minimized to a "Diablo 3 has stopped working" box.

I dont need to use the task manager to close Diablo 3, it simply exits on its own

if you play in fullscreen mode the game will minimize itself in order to be able to show the new window that says it has stopped working. in essence the game has froze and windows is asking you 2 options close? or wait for the program to respond? thats all.

its exactly the same thing imo. the only difference as i see it is in fullscreen (windowed) and windowed mode the game doesnt need to minimize itself to show the new stopped working window. its obvious the game froze up when this happens at this point.
Damn. Do you know of any solutions or fixes?

Dookie ,

About when did this start happening to you?

Ordinarily I'd be suspect of the computer's stability for an issue like this but as Morogoth pointed out, there have been a few posts from people with similar symptoms. I'd like to see if your problem started before or after a recent hotfix was applied to the servers to address movement issues.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my thread :)

To answer your question, I have had the problem since before the August 3 hotfix.

Same problem here. Always happening when in town. Never elsewhere. Multiple time a day.
On Windows 8 release preview, 64 bit.
ATI Radeon, 5670, ver 8.97.10.0

:-(
For me it happens in town, in combat, or wherever. It sucks when I have 5 stacks then the game crashes :/

Dookie,

I'd run a couple of stress tests and a ram diagnostic on the pc to verify it's stability.

Prime95 is good for testing the cpu and the ram a little. You should be able to run it for hours with no errors if the pc is in good shape. It will heat up the cpu significantly as it puts it through its paces so you'll want to be sure your cpu cooler is working properly. If it fails, that's the first thing I'd suspect was wrong.

Furmark is good for stressing the video card. This one will definitely heat up the video card and very quickly so pay close attention to it's display (which shows the gpu temp). You don't need to run this one for very long usually as if there's a video card problem when it gets hot, it should show up pretty soon after starting the test (burn-in mode, not benchmark). Remember to shut it down if the video card is getting too hot, say about 90C.

Lastly, I like to use Memtest+ for testing ram. It requires you to copy or burn it to bootable media like a cd/dvd or flash drive. You should try to run this one overnight and check for errors in the morning. It won't heat anything up.

Thanks ill give these a try.
Hi! Im not sure if everyone has the same problem but for me example my game since about 2 weeks now simply stops while im playing. Imagine like this: Im playing and hacking and seems like random after 10-15 min later the game stops. I can walk still however after a little while the map simply ends, I can not interact with anything and i DO Not get an error message. I can wait as long as i want, the game max after a while going to disconnect. If i try to leave the game then i get the message that im being disconnected. Why is this happening. Since i bought the game i had not a single problem. I finished it a couple times and now this. And i still use the same laptop and internet device too. I simply DO NOt understand.

I have run these tests and there wasn't any indication of anything wrong. I play other games that are similar (in terms of system requirements) to D3 such as Starcraft 2 and Skyrim and they seem to run fine on my computer.

Does anyone else have any suggestions or ideas?

Dookie ,

There's not much left to suggest but swapping out components one by one. That may be hard as the parts in the computer may not have industry standard equivalents you can use, not to mention the possible cost associated if you don't have access to spares yourself. It's likely to take a while as the symptom suggests you'll have to run it for quite a while in between component swapping to see if it had an effect. I'd probably start with the video card and/or power supply.

Before doing any of that though, check the temperatures the cpu and gpu are reaching while playing.

Download HWMonitor from http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.20-setup.exe

Install and run it before starting the game. Then start the game and play long enough not to crash it but to let it get to what you'd consider a normal operating temp. Do enough in game to stress it (lots of monsters on screen at once like the Light the Beacon quest in Act 3). Exit out then and check the max temps reached.
