Broken Follower Stats?

Has anyone else noticed that the item stats vs. DPS don't always line up? For example, I was trying to figure out which weapon would be better on my enchantress by putting one on, then the other. Since you don't get a comparison section when looking at items you're holding while in the follower inventory screen... (By the way, Blizz, a little help on that would be HUGELY appreciated.)

Regardless, I put on a weapon called "Black Rod", a rare 2 hand staff that stated:
312.6 DPS
248-377 damage
1.00 attacks/ sec
21-39 fire damage
+17% damage
98 dex
71 vit
socket

And my enchantress "damage" section went from 0.03 dps with nothing on to 173.8 dps with a weapon which states a MINIMUM of 248 damage in her hand....
DAFUQ???

Then, I tried a 2hand Axe which states
The Fang
194.3 dps
176-213 damage
1.00 attacks/sec
12% damage
88 intel
crit dam 38%
2.3 life steal
socket

and my "damage" section went from 0.03 to 196.09 which comes way closer to what it should be, but really? It's getting more than the staff with 312 DPS?

Obviously it's screwed up, but I'm wondering if it's actually putting out the DPS the item claims or if it's doing what it says?

The problem is that it's hard to figure some things in your head, like how much DPS would a weapon that states "157.6 DPS" with modifiers like 102 intel, 17% damage, 33%critical damage on a character with 12% critical chance... blah blah, you know the drill... it's ANNOYING!

i also had my friend try the same items on his enchantress, and we noticed the same thing on his weapons for the scoundrel on my scoundrel... So, it's not just me, and it's not just my weapons, and it's not just the enchantress....

In conclusion, there seems to be something badly wrong with the DPS calculators on followers... Unless they follow some different set of rules I missed?

Yes, all follower stats are affected by an altered set of rules. Getting your follower to do high DPS is basically impossible

Followers have a rough 80% nerf to their DPS. The best way to 'improve' their DPS is by stating their main stat, i/e dex for the scoundral, int for the enchantress, and str for the templar. All followers get a 2.5x multiplier on all stats, so thats why the second weapon you applied was such a HUGE DPS boost for the enchantress (88 int * 2.5 = 220 int, or a 220% damage increase, on top of the DPS of the weapon)

Basically, the devs allowed you to pick the skills of your followers, at the expense of them being massive DPS boosts (i/e, the IAS, armor, and CC of the enchantress, vs the CC, and crit of the scoundral, vs the healing, and tanking of the templar)
