Diablo® III

Mouse Lag

I'm getting this mouse "lag" around my paragon exp bar/skills bar since the patch. Basically whenever I hover near this area with my mouse it starts moving more slowly and jumping back in small ticks, almost like it's fighting against the drag.

It only happens in Diablo, and it only happens there in-game and for the most part only when I hover near the described area. I've tried messing with all the options, changing screen resolutions, and rebooting like 3 times.

Tried googling it and all I found were links to some invisible mouse glitch (definitely not the problem I'm having).

If anyone else has experienced this or has any idea why the game is doing this please lmk.

It's probably something obvious that I'm too dumb to figure out, but w/e

TheMuffinMan,

I've not noticed anything like this and just checked to be sure in-game. Hovering over the bar pops up an info box showing your current Paragon XP status. Do you see the same lag when hovering over items laying on the ground in-game? I used to see reports of that but haven't seen any lately.

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Appreciate the timely response. I'll go ahead and do all that.

Also to answer your other question, no I do not get this lag when hovering over an item. The only way I can duplicate it is by holding down a key and dragging the mouse. This causes similar lag, however the mouse lag from the skills/exp area is much more pronounced.

TheMuffinMan,

Could you try something for me and see if it helps?

1. Right click anywhere on the desktop and select Screen Resolution
2. Click on Make text and other items larger or smaller
3. Change the size of text to Smaller - 100% (default)
4. Apply, click on Log off now and restart

This solved the problem, thank you very much.

When I went to switch it back to 125% the issue came back, looks like I'll just have to leave it at 100% if I want to play Diablo. I just find it curious that I never had this problem pre-1.0.4.

At any rate this is a more than acceptable workaround for now, thanks again.

I had the exact same lag problem, and this solution worked for me too. Slightly annoying though, since having increased DPI didn't cause this issue before the patch, and everything is reeeeeeally small and hard to read at 2560x1600 without it!
Reply Quote
I also experienced this problem, however the solution is not any fun, I want to run my text at a larger size, any news if this will be addressed in the future?
Reply Quote
I have this same issue but its with EVERYTHING with text, items dropping, hovering over stuff, anything. Before 1.0.4 this wasnt happening and on large monitors, you MUST have text set larger. Changing my windows setting EVERYTIME i want to play D3 is kinda ridculous for blizzard to be asking us to do.

For me, I hold down shift to stand, then i get BAD mouse stutter. No shift, no stutter.

Example, Took me 3 min to log off to change text smaller, now when im done i have to log off to make it bigger, then back off to go back to game, this is stupid blizzard...

I have the exact same issue. As soon as I bring the mouse toward the menu bar at the bottom of the screen, my mouse cursor starts shaking and it's as if I have to fight it to click on anything. I did not have this issue before the latest patch.

Has there been any progress towards a fix for this issue? ....Besides the work around that is highly inconvenient of choosing "smaller text"

...let alone having to already adjust dpi settings on my other pc connected to my big screen tv just to get the mouse cursor to even function. That too is a major hassle. At least with Startcraft 2 changing the dpi compatibility settings shortcut to the game fixes the issue, but not with Diablo 3. Sorry that's another issue altogether, but closely related and major pain.

Blizzard it would be great if both of these issues could be patched! At least the new mouse stuttering/lag issue.

Thank you!

I have a fix or a workaround that may work for you guys. I've been using it for Wow and SC2 and it seems like it works for D3 too as I just did a quick preliminary test.

When you change your desktop dpi setting to a larger value so you can see things better on the desktop, instead of selecting one of the presets they list (125,150%), use a custom setting instead. For example, 150% kills my mouse in the game but 149% doesn't.

It doesn't come without it's own little quirks though. I run the game in full screen mode on one monitor and it was letting my cursor move over to the second screen but only halfway.... but it may work well enough to get you by without constantly relogging or rebooting.

Now that is actually alot more helpful... any idea on why this affects the game since in game texts do not change?

Had the same problem. Both suggested fixes work but I prefer the setting custom so I don't have to change settings every time I am not playing D3 just to see my icons
Thanks

I have same problem and only 100% dpi setting is solving this for me.It is very annoying cause I keep my dpi on 125% and every time iam playing D3 I have to chenge desktop dpi...PLEASE BLIZZARD FIX IT!

Fraxinus,

Another workaround that let's you make a setting change just for the game and not need to reboot in-between is:

Right click the Diablo III icon, select properties, go to the Compatibility tab and enable the option called "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings", click OK and you should be able to play Diablo III without any changes to the DPI settings each time you use it.

I still have the same problem after that patch, nothing helped.

Funny thing is I returned to play a week before patch, patch comes, lag mouse makes it unplayable, so I cant play and wait a patch for months.

I see the issue still in forum, lastest patch does help, Ill not even try to but an expansion that probably cant play.

Even if some players are able to fix it to with the 100% dpi scale, isnt a solution, nothing seems to work here, Ill uninstall, its a shame, I played time to time and now is just frustating and impossible to waste more time on this.

Hope Blizzard didnt forget this issue.
