Diablo® III

SLI or Non-SLI ?

Dose D3 support SLI cards?

I'm running two nvidia 450's 1gig ram cards, I can run the game with one card but I find I get a huge fps drop... Seems the game ran better on a single 9600 512mb card than it dose on a single 450 1gig card... Any thoughts?

Here's my full system specs

Win 7 64 bit
8gig ram
AMD Phenom II x4 955 cpu running 3.62GHz

Two
Nvidia GeForce 450 GTS 1gig ram cards

One thing I notice a lot while opening Task Manager when running Diablo to change priority to high is that Diablo is a 32 bit game, I don't think this should be the issue but I'm stummped on why I'm getting fps below 15 when in co-op games... When I'm playing by myself the fps never drops below 50....

Bump, tried doing a clean driver install to the latest beta drivers and still nothing....... amazing that with what I have in my computer I only get about 5-10fps in Co-Op games......

turn off backgrond fps stuff in advanced i think

There are a few things that could cause this problem. Soe of these are easy and you probably already thought of.

Q: What resolution are you trying to run this at?
A: The higher the resolution the lower the frame rate.

Q: Did you upgrade or add monitors with your video card upgrade?
A: Adding a second monitor can tax your system. Also double check to make sure you are actually in SLI mode. I have 2 GTX 590s running 4 monitors. Only 2 GPUs are in SLI and the other 2 are in normal mode. So i am losing a lot of FPS to my idle screens.

Q: Is Diablo on an HDD or SSD?
A: I get massive lag when I first start fighting because it takes time to load all of the textures and such. If you have a slow(5200rpm or variable speed) hard drive that could cause problems. If you are running windows, playing Diablo, listing to music, booking face, and talking on vent all at the same time on one hard drive that will really tax it. It is better to have as many tasks split up as possible. I have windows and vent on a raid 0 setup, all my games on another hard drive, and all my music/videos on another hard drive. Having an SSD will likely negate any hard drive problems.

Q: Are you downloading lots of stuff as well as playing.
A: This problem is similar to the hard drive problem. Diablo cannot render frames without information. In single player all the info comes from your hard drive. In multiplayer the info has to be requested from the server, sent to your computer, stored in the RAM, sent to the GPUs and put on the screen. This has to happen for all the characters/effects you see. Most of this happens quickly but the part that will slow it down the most is connection speed or saturation. If you are using a lot of your bandwidth for other tings then Diablo cannot download the information it needs quickly enough to render the frames fast enough.

With all of that said none of these may be your problems. You are correct in believing that being a 32 bit game is not the problem. This issue has to be fairly unique otherwise everyone would be complaining about it. Try reading around some on the forums.

Good Luck,
OBXandos

Q: What resolution are you trying to run this at?
A: 1280*1025

Q: Did you upgrade or add monitors with your video card upgrade?
A: I'm currently only running one monitor on my system, and it's a small 19" Also I'm very sure my gpu's are running in SLI and I've tried running single card vrs both in sli and it doesn't make any difference.

Q: Is Diablo on an HDD or SSD?
A: I use a HDD, Windows7 64bit is installed on that drive, I tried to run Diablo off my external and even tried the flash drive walk around with no success.. Well the flash drive did help but it was ever so slightly of a improvement. I even did followed the sticky in these forums http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5978349974

Q: Are you downloading lots of stuff as well as playing.
A: Not while I'm playing online or any games for that matter, I run "Game Booster 3" with all my games. Having a x4 core processor I've tried setting it to single/duel cores, tried setting priority to high, tried the "D3Prefs.txt" fixes and nothing.

The last thing I haven't yet done was give my computer a fresh reformat and OS reinstall though I really don't think I should need to go this far..

If you are using SLI you can get a nice performance gain if you use the 0x02500005 Compatibility Bits.

For that download NvidiaInspector from here http://blog.orbmu2k.de/tools/nvidia-inspector-tool (Download button at the bottom of article)
Run it and click on driver profile button (it will ask for admin rights)
Select Diablo III from the list
Where it says "SLI Compatibility Bits" change it from 0x02400005 (Dragon Age: Origins, X2 The Threa... to 0x02500005
Click "Apply changes" in the top right corner and you are done.

Thats so weird! im running D3 on a GTS 450 too, but only have this issues

1)When starting a game (solo or coop) i got some low FPS. after 20sec it seems to fix.
2) Sometimes on act 1 or 2 i got bad graphics (like stripes or squares) but its so fast that i cant use the Screenshot.
3) When a lot of monsters get on screen the FPS drops. (and i undestand this, my cpu is no so powerful)

My PC specs:

AMD Athlon II X2 @3.0ghz
Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 [zotac eco edition]
4Gb ram DDR3 1066
200Gb HDD

And your running off single card Guadarrama? Dam, I have a better cpu and more ram than you and honestly in Co-Op only my fps never goes over 10.

As previously stated, try turning off the FPS limiters (both background and foreground) under the game's options panel. These act up sometimes.

On the newest nVidia Beta Drivers, SLI is supported though I highly doubt it will fix your issue. You're running into some sort of glitch as you should generally be running between 35 and 50 FPS on one of those cards.

Both FPS limiters are turned off, and doesn't make a difference. Having my cards in SLI or Single makes no difference.... :(

I use two Nvidia 580 in SLI, with vsync, and I always have 60 fps. But since 1.0.4 I can not, no matter what settings I use, get more than 10 minutes gameplay without bluescreen or crash. Last crash gave me:
CCD46DDA-E2EE-4937-936B-1E0EC78E8E88
whatever that means.
I tried Vsync/SLI/PhysX/CUDA/Anisotropic etc etc etc enabled/disabled/high/low/off... whatever I change (including -downclocking- to some 80% of stock values since I read about a guy solving his problems by doing this)... it just wont matter.
I get 60 fps, but ... crash-crash-crash-and-burn. It worked superb before 1.0.4 and in Skyrim and other games I have full/ultrahigh settings (Skyrim, Mass Effect 2&3, Crysis 2 (with high-res textures). And NO overclocking anywhere!
I'd take lower FPS than 60 if I just could get this to work! :(

Oh, and the resolution: 1920x1080 in a Win7 64bit-computer with 8gb RAM and SSD-discs

And your running off single card Guadarrama? Dam, I have a better cpu and more ram than you and honestly in Co-Op only my fps never goes over 10.

Ya', im NOT using SLI, only my GTS 450 zotac eco edition(which is a little bit lame, cuz it has DDR3)

Free Space: 34.2 GB
Total Space: 238.4 GB

This could be your problem, THIS piece of...bad codded game uses a lot the HDD, so probably since you don't have a lot of room gives you the low FPS.

Also you could try to use a windows theme without Aero.

Haven't used Aero in a long time, it was proved to be a performance issue...

I'll clean the HD up, 75% of it is the gf's deal... Not really sure why she wont put her music on the external.

Cleared it to 221.8 free out of 331.9

Cleaned and defragged... going to check if that made and difference.

Also moved D3 to a 16gig flash drive

Did a run threw act 3, made no difference.... I remember the flash drive did fix my fps before 104 patch. Though now it's just garbage now, and before 104 I was running two 9600 gt 512mb video cards. Now I'm running two 450 1gig cards.
