So, any game soundtracks you guys like? Recently I'd say my vote goes to Bastion, the audio on that game is simply amazing. I also have fond memories of Chrono Trigger's soundtrack. Any of you guys have favorite game tracks?

Bastion was good.

Guild Wars 2 has great music, too. Has an epic feel to it and fits the game's atmosphere.

Chrono Trigger's is great. Hearing it takes me back.

Bastion was a solid game on it's own, but the music just elevated it to another level.

Chrono Trigger is my favorite game and soundtrack of all time. I still have my original cartridge on the SNES with my first save (maxed on everything).

I'd also throw in the Guilty Gear series. Kick !@# music on all the games I've played but my favorite would be Guilty Gear XX #Reload Korean version. The music is epic and gets me pumped up to fight. Imported that badboy on a whim and it was totally worth it.

Early generation Sega Genesis games had great soundtracks. Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel are a couple of the best. Later on, Sonic CD for the Sega CD became, in my opinion, the best Sonic soundtrack ever. (Placing the disc in a CD player certainly helped that out.)

Dark Souls is more recent, but the add-in soundtrack for the special release version is a treat. Arriving in the big world after leaving the asylum is epic in its own right, but the ambience is what drives the mood. The album is just as haunting outside the game as it is inside.

Most Japanese shooters (particularly ones developed by CAVE) have great soundtracks. The music must match the action on-screen, so they tend to deliver well in this regard. Mushihimesama is a good one.

I personally don't care much for the Katamari series, but at least the music works well with how quirky the game is. While I have no interest in hearing the soundtrack outside the game, I do appreciate the effort made to keep the music light-hearted and often funny.

The Katamari and the Space Channel 5 soundtracks are on my iPod at the moment, along with Shadow of the Colossus, a selection from the Silent Hills and Super Mario Galaxy.

I also really like the incidental music from WoW, Diablo, D2, Bastion. As well as Super Meat Boy, They Bleed Pixels, Terraria, but those aren't the sort of thing I'd listen to out-of-game.

Many of the ones mentioned above.

As of late, I've been addicted to Danny Baranowsky of Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac fame. The way the hooks sink in with ease while still being dense is great. It really feeds my Steve Vai/Devin Townsend side, while still greatly reminding me of the old days of console music.

There are plenty of others, but I'll go straight for my favorite. Journey to Silius composed by Naoki Kodaka. As a kid, I used to turn on the NES just to listen to the theme song. I'm listening to it again now and am still not sure my brain fully believes this was crammed into an 8-bit cartage with no external chip. A limit pusher if there ever was one.

I should also mention the music for both recent Fallout games. Fallout 3 got me hooked on Billie Holiday, while New Vegas made me aware of what an awesome singer Peggy Lee is. But even the game soundtracks that played without the radio being on where awesome imo.

Bastion is like my favorite soundtrack since Chrono Trigger/Cross, it's just that good.

A few other game soundtracks that I like are;
Dues Ex - Dat theme music.
Killing Floor - I love all the sound design in this game, it's such a quotable game. The nu-metal guitar stuff really gets you in the mood to kill zombies.
Trine 1+2 - Love the folk style melodies, it really goes well with the fairy-tale style the game has going. The Trine games are such a treat for your ears and eyes.
Machinarium - I just love how spacey and mellow the soundtrack is for this game, it's amazing.

Lately, really digging the music on Darksiders II. It's really subtle when it needs to be, but can also get intense. I also really like the Sci-Fi kind of tones that are in Mass Effect, Portal, and Unreal Tournament series.

+1 to The Witcher and Journey as well, the music is amazing in those games. I pretty much love everything that's involves Flutes, Violins, Guitars etc.

Quake!
The soundtrack to Quake (Nine Inch Nails) was absolutely perfect for the game. I have never seen a soundtrack enhance a game quite like this did.

Heroes of Might and Magic 4 had some really great music.

Dirt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KByla_uGhro
Water: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7VRWpr1UHw

Unfortunately 3DO was going bankrupt and was forced to put a poorly made game out.

Skyrim (and anything from Jeremy Soule really) is also up there for fantastic music:

It depends on the game, the music must fit the atmosphere and bring you deeper into the world, or at least the action.

That being said, Katamari Damaci, a silly game deserves fun, poppy, catchy tunes.
Prince of Persia, The Sands of Time had amazing music, the tempo and Near East flavor really drew me into the (at the time) innovative combat and (truly) exciting platforming.
The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Just the best. The simple theme when entering Vivec, the way the brass comes in, and the sudden MUTING, that cut off of music as I traverse the empty wastelands, with only the sound of the wind and my footsteps, the blade Goldbrand shining at my side. I loved those silences. Music is art, and sometimes, you just gotta know what to omit.

The Runescape dungeoneering skill tracks are great.
Diablo 1 & 3
Medal of Honour has a great soundtrack, but I always turned it off to get into the killing mood.
Pretty sure Dungeon Seige was a winner too, haven't played it for ages

Some of the archaic gamer tunes I occasionally listen to are Pitfall and Wonderboy (Commodore 64) just for lols.

I like to have the music match the mood to the game I'm playing, just on low in the background
