Yet another offered solution to crafting...

My apologies if this has already been posed.

What if in diablo 3 we made use of the random white (and gray?) items that drop throughout your farming? This could help reduce the monotony and allow the "chance" for even seemingly useless items to become valuable. (consider the socket quest in act 5 of diablo 2 and how that affected gameplay) Essentially, x white item drops, which you take to the blacksmith along with mats and gold and in exchange you are give a random rare (possibly even legendary if you are lucky?) of the same type with stat rolls based on the monster lvl- from which the item dropped- and a random number of affixes from 4-6.
