[GUIDE] The Tank DH V.7

Niha. I've been using my tank build for about a month and a half now without Gloom. Smoke Screen - Choking Gas provides the needed CC break, 5 seconds of extra dps, disc regen, and on-hit procs within melee vicinity (which will be the situation almost always as a tank).

The build you are thinking about has 0 CC breaks.. I mean, you could avoid all the frozen / DoT damage affixes that elites will have... But that's not being a tank.

I was considering to drop gloom, and probably could if I change my build away from being a roadblock and made myself a more mobile tank. At the moment I am strictly using my tank for running ubers with others. I'll grab and hold agro for one of the ubers (Maghda, SB, and Ghom) while the rest of the party takes down the other one. This has been extremely efficient for us as I am basically a giant meat shield that can take a battering.

Right now I still need gloom for doing uber maghda, as she will drop arcane turrets under my feet and I either have to move and let her escape the corner I have trapped her in or tough it out.

Dirk, for now I'm pLeveling as fast as I can so that I can go back to TankyDH.

1.05 has been generous to my own custom build ;)

heh, at the moment I am leveling a drops only DH I started after hitting an upgrade wall with my tank. There wasn't any gear upgrades I could go after for it that would up the damage. Right now I will have a hard time playing it again if I don't have the High dps and survivability I am getting use to.

Well.. simple goal to just get 1m EHP.. then I'd aim for DPS >_<

Actually.. it's ASPD + Crit Chance + Tanky Stuff.. I won't even bother with Crit Damage. The build I'm going to use won't really use much Crit Damage, I need Crit Chance for NS :))

Yeah, atm I am pushing closer to 2mil ehp after dodge and block. Slowly getting towards dps as crit chance gear becomes available on the AH. With near perfect AR + Phys resist rolls it is hard to get upgrades or side-grades.

Even though my drops-only has half the resists of my tank, I have 3x the dps. I'm not able to do high level uber runs yet but it is still far more fun actually knowing of the possibility of finding an upgrade.

This. LOL. Yeah, there's always a possibility of finding an upgrade if you played "Drops Only" mode.. but if you use the AH.. you'd have access to quick upgrades..

I'm quite sure that made the game somewhat boring. Nope.. THAT really made it boring. LOL

Hello Tank DH's!!

My build tank is pretty good right now but i was thinking about something i would try.
I would like to remove Gloom from my build and try putting maybe Caltrops to hit with Jagged Spike.


I stay with Gloom, although I rarely use it regularly (unless I'm 4 deep in desecration, or have multiple arcane sentries on me, or right before I get frozen). I use Caltrops> Jagged Spikes and never have a problem with Disc, so I'd consider dropping Prep for Caltrops if I were you. Do you ever have a problem with low Disc?

Thanks for this guide, one of the reasons why I switched totally from glass to tank build!
During my glass cannon build I can only farm up to mp2 due to my fragility (esp reflect damage) lol!
Now currently in my build I can farm mp5 with ease and no fear (even reflect damage).

Originally I was a tank hunter during 1.03, but due to skill nerfs, I was forced to changed back to glass cannon in 1.04, now in 1.05 I'm very happy to say that tank hunter build is back and even stronger than before (thanks Blizz for the DH skill improvement changes!)

that is the fun thing about using the AH only for places where you are really stuck, or not using it at all.

ive been running HC lately. SC just got kinda boring. finding an item always makes me happy :D

Thanks for the guide, it has helped me quite abit since the 1.0.3 patch. Now I'm out of the 1hander+shield route, going DWing.

Not really sure whether my build now is a tank build, but it is pretty much in the mob's face like tank hunters.

After 2 and a half months of using the same 1h crossbow.. I was finally able to find a suitable upgrade for myself that I can settle with for a good while.

I think it's a pretty good tank weapon, any opinions and comments on it are welcome.

Well, it's not specifcally set up for MP10, but I can clear MP10 with ease. Blue elites take approximately 2 - 3 minutes to kill, no kiting needed at all.

But for efficient farming (item farming + exp, I normally run 5.)

I'm with dirk. I keep the SP:GLOOM for arcane sentries mostly.

on one of my tank builds I run over 2100 LoH and brooding isn't really necessary. if too many arcane sentries spawn I will just move a little bit and hit shadow power and all is fine. I only use shadow what 3% of the time if that it seems.

For Ubers I like engineering over Brooding. I get more life out of each sentry placed and with ubers no issues laying down 3 of them especially since the arenas are typically so small.

I will sometimes use my calamity so I can regen hatred faster to spam more spiked traps but take a 900 LoH Hit when doing this. But in reality in Melee Mode and running chakram/shuriken which is procking LoH I'm not seeing any issues with less LoH.

I haven't done a full tank in MP10 as of yet but have done 8 and 9. ONly time I died was due to arcane sentries and I was trying to hit shadow power and it wasn't working (didn't realize my keystrokes were going to an open chat window line... LOL

3 arcane sentries in the higher MPs is about all I can take with my dh tank and I've found I'm giving up more Phys Resist and not seeing an issue.

Some day I'll get another DH up to lvl 60 so I can perma put on tank gear and not have to swap with my main.
