Monk passives. A side-by-side comparison

Tough as nails: +25% armor
The guardians path: +15% dodge
Dodge is a worthless stat because MOLTEN/arcane/reflect/belial/ghom cannot be dodged. Having a much stronger EHP bonus, + thorns just adds insult.

Inspiring presence: +2% life/second regen
Chant of resonance: +1.3% resource/second regen
Honestly... doesn't this look like it needs at quadruple buff?

Nerves of steel: +1 armor per vit
STI: +0.5 armor per dex
This imbalance is not as glaring in softcore but if you consider max-rolled stats or consider hardcore, this is just blatant favouritism. Tough as nails also > STI.

Bloodthirst: +3% lifesteal
Transcendence: +63 LPSS
Did I say BLATANT favouritism? Before the barbs pipe in and say how crappy bloodthirst is... transcendence is half as strong in single target combat...

Ruthless: +16% damage, 100% uptime
Weapons master: +15% damage, 100% uptime
Brawler: +30% damage when surrounded
Beserker rage: +25% damage when max resource

... combination strike: +24% damage, 3sec frenzy stack... if you use 3 signature spells

4 sec serenity is nothing compared to WotB with nearly 100% uptime.

15% Breath of Heaven seems "forced" for Monks to even have a decent baseline damage.

45% Sweeping Wind is an active ability. Compare to Rend. Oh, Rend does more? Hm, imagine that.

48% Mantra of Conviction requires constant spirit leech. 25 every 3 seconds. That's a lot of Spirit, which can only be gained by standing still. Also, no matter how many targets you hit, you still gain 6 Spirit. Barbs hit 5 guys? MORE FURY!

1770% 7 sided strike is on a 30 second cd. 30... seconds... 1770% compares to a basic Barb ability like Rend. In fact, over 30 seconds, Rend does more if you consider 100% uptime, which you have to when you consider Monster Power.

Monks would give their left nut for marauder rage.
+30% damage, +3% crit, 120second duration, no cooldown
Costs 20 rage.

P.S. +30% to all damage is better than a 30% weapon DPS aura

P.P.S. This is a passive comparison.
Barbs ACTIVE skills are UNANIMOUSLY the best of all classes.
Barb's dont even use marauder rage... it's an underpowered barb skill.

Breath of heaven 15%? LOL man talk it up

You're comparing the worst Monk passives to the best Barb passives. We don't even use most of those passives anyway!

With your logic, OWE should be nerfed into oblivion

Constructive suggestions:
Honestly the monk passive range is just a wasteland... here's a start

  • Guardians path:
  • Also reduces environmental damage by 20%

  • Chant of resonance:
  • 2% max resource/second
    Mantras secondary effects are increased to 15 seconds

  • Combination strike:
  • +7% damage for 3seconds for every different generator OR SPELL used.

    OWE will be nerfed to oblivion, so barbs never need to worry about monks. Besides, if you can't admit that LPSS < LIFESTEAL there is no point even having a discussion.

    So why don't you use those passives? oh wait they're NOT the best. You have better. Thanks for answering your own argument.

    You say they are best Bar passives but you don't even use most of them? Now, think about that for a second. When you think of something beside OWE, let us know. It is always "OWE", just "OWE". Yeah, that is the best passive Monks have, every class agrees, but story pretty much ends there.

    Barb passives? Well, let's revisit:

    +1 to OP.

    This barbarian favoritism HAS TO end.

    p.s. There's only one "best" passive, the One with Everything, and in case you miss the patch note, IT'S GOING DOWN like every other awesome non-barb skills. The other passives are just fillers becoz there's nothing else to choose from. Post 1.0.5 I'm pretty sure you can interchange any of the other 2 passive around and not notice much of a difference.

    He wasnt comparing the "worst" Monk passives, he was comparing OUR passives...they are almost all crap. And the good ones remaining will be nerfed soon. Yes, OwE will be nerfed too.

    Im pretty sure that YOUR build has 3 out of 8 skills mentioned. And the fact that a few barbs dont use them, its because they have better ones to use or that fits in their build. Now check Monk's passives, just do it, you'll see how "good" they are. Btw, consider yourself lucky if you drop an Inna's piece with All Resist, almost all of them have single resists...seems like they (Blizz) designed our "end-game" gear to fits with our best passive, OwE. Otherwise, they should've put "fixed" all resist on it, like Barb's IK (I think its 50~60).

    90% of our passives sucks, our end-game set affixes sucks (seriously, 2 Inna's pieces increase spirit regen by 0.33/sec...really? -.-) while our good passives are getting nerfed and the useless ones are getting buffed (still useless). Pretty cool, huh?

    Cant someone with some time simply take a lvl 60 barb and lvl 60 monk, get both on or close to 1200 primary stat, 10 crit chance, 150 crit damage, run Act 1 with all the above mentioned skills and passives and report back on who owned the hardest. Maybe even see how far they make it into later acts.

    Note these stats have to be VERY close to each other, armour as well. What your skills and passives add after that is what we want to compare.

    I dont need a whole bar full of carebear op bs skills to faceroll and fastfarm. Let the spin to win and hulksmashers hop around...

    Meanwhile I gen 15 tornados on that each crit for 40-70k.. while getting 70k from cyclone.. and burst dps over 270.... and a primary that gives 145% on a 6 yard radius and attacks faster.
    And 1-shot packs with 2333% SSS. (Shh dont tell anyone we FINALLY got an op offensive skill, and hint, its better than serenity for ohcrap)

    And never die. Ever.
