Having played the Beta (cause I got suckered into Annual Pass thinking D3 was going to be fun and WoW would entertain me for a year), I can understand both the high and low review scores.
They remade all of the skills. If you don't like the new system (I don't) you're going to hate the new WoW (not just MoP). The new MoP zones are really boring for me and continue the strange trend of gimmicky quests. On the other hand, if you like the skill changes, you're going to love everything about MoP.
Can you imagine WoW that has way too little monster killing? That's the MoP starting zone.
The high level zones are just more of the same (as WotLK and Cata), but lacking the story earlier expansions had. When I say lacking a story, I should have said no story at all. You don't know where you are, why you're there, or why the monsters are so easy to kill. The only thing preventing you from grabbing 30 enemies at a time are the other 20+ people in the same area trying to do the same thing.
The beta convinced me that I definitely don't want to go back to WoW. The change in the skill system means that I won't be playing the last month of my sub because there's no point in learning all the skills from the beginning to just play a month. There are better games to play. Even D3 is better, and I haven't touched D3 in over a month.
