DBoy187 & Acrimony's Gearing Service

Important Update:

Hey guys,

After some reflection, I have decided to take a break from the gearing service. There are some selfish reasons, but the main one is my real life one -- I need to buckle down and study.

I will, however, be finishing off the sets I'm currently doing.

This shouldn't preclude you from approaching one of DBoy or Trinxified. Both are immensely skilled itemisers and planners who can absolutely break down gear from scratch and rebuild it on a tight budget or a huge one. Use their service and their experience!

I have met many players from all corners of the world and immensely enjoyed chatting and helping them gear. I think my favourite sets were BallzSoHard and xBarbarischx's, but to be honest, I got a good amount of laughs out of helping an anonymous player who had a huge budget, but no idea how to play Whirlwind -- watching him improve over the last little while from my help is probably the best reward I could have asked for.

As far as my philosophy for gear building I have some thoughts to share:
1) I would rather overpay for 24% move-speed than forgo it altogether -- there is absolutely no sense in crippling what's supposed to be an efficient build;
2) Shoulders, chest, and pants are the three core starters for any build -- build with prioritizing for EHP, and then build your damage around it. Those three gear slots are stacked with core stats and should be prioritized first;
3) Always always always get damage modifiers on your jewellery -- that doesn't include minimum or maximum damage, but it largely depends on the core damage rolls of the attack speed or critical hit damage;
4) Off-hand speed should be 1.5 or more. Anything less is a detriment to your tornadoes' efficiency;
5) On big budgets, don't overpay -- focus on #2 first and then refocus when you've found a comfort level from your remaining gear slots and your end-game goals. Then overpay to your heart's content if it's the item that you're looking for;
6) Don't skimp on stats because one modifier happens to stand out -- balance those stats! The real damage scaling comes from your jewellery (see #3).
7) Do not stack vitality on your weapons -- this is the biggest mistake I have made with my current gear. At the moment, I feel comfortable saying that vitality on your weapons is a cheap way to get effective health points. Stacking vitality on your weapons can cripple the building process as you find that losing vitality on your weapons actually does more harm than good because it costs more gold to stack vitality elsewhere to replace the weapon. I'm still stuck with my godly main hand, but badly in need of an upgrade.

Sidenote:
In addition, I have read some comments from people accusing me of RMAHing my gear. That's not the case. Every single gold I have made and spent have come from within the game. I get good tips from people who value my opinion and I make smart purchases with an eye towards getting items that I know will have resell value down the road. For example: My previous Lacunis were 59.9m from one month ago -- well before the patch. Last night, I sold them for 85m. I have also made some big snipes -- my favourite snipe were my gloves and off-hand -- I value my offhand for 2B+. My current amulet was 180m; my previous one was 125m -- it should sell for 250+. Knowing the market and how people gravitate towards maximum modifiers is the key to getting rich and getting godly.

As you get better gear, it's easier to accumulate gold from your sales and having more gold for a new upgrade. It's really that simple.

Best of luck,

acrimony

would like to take the opportunity to welcome trixified to the fold. trixified has been a great contributor to the Barbarian forum since release. He has shown himself to be knowledgeable and versatile in his understanding of the Barbarian class. trixified will be our gear check specialist who will provide some information on the class, an idea of what the player is looking for, and if the budget can work within his requirements.

Looking forward to AHing with trixified :)

Please note that if you are interested in our service, you will have to add trixified first before we can help you. This will help lessen the load and give trixified some experience and gain some reputation for his efforts!

Hey guys,

Acrimony and DBoy187 have decided to team up and help other Barbarians gear for the upcoming 1.0.5. patch. A lot of issues were discussed before this arrangement was made and we're confident that we can build a successful gearing service with our collective expertise and strong grasp of the Barbarian's class mechanics.

Lately I have been getting a lot of friend requests to help gear fellow Barbarians for the Double Tornado. Unfortunately, due to time constraints with school and a need to farm for my own loot, I have been unable to accept these requests because they take up a lot of my time.

As many of you know, DBoy187 has been gearing Barbarians since June and has had tremendous success doing so. You can check out his vouches and results below:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6201690197
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6307502317

Acrimony recently built a godly Barbarian from scratch (thread below):
https://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6712863182

Acrimony has been spending a lot of time gear checking in the PTR and is confident of the necessary minimums needed to properly farm MP4 and above. The key here is efficiency -- we don't want to build you a Barbarian that walks on edge of death every farming run. We want you to be prepared for the patch.

To summarise, these are the builds we will be focusing on:
- Traditional Double Tornado
- Weapon Throw
- Classic Sword and Board
- Basic 2H Barbarian

Minimum Budget Requirements:
Double Tornado: 200m
Classic Sword and Board: 100m
Weapon Throw: 100m
Basic 2H: 100m

These requirements are flexible, but will demand a very stringent gear check before we accept your budget and provide our gearing services.

Our fee is 10% of budget. (note: this is not mandatory for larger budgets -- please ask DBoy or I for information on this)

For Budget Barbarians, we would like to offer a friendly advice and suggestion. Ender and Rezic have been providing excellent budget services for awhile now and have countless numbers of satisfied Barbarians. If you have a budget that doesn't work here, we suggest you check out this thread: https://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6679518691

Further, Acrimony will be providing you with an in-game tutorial on the Double Tornado and Weapon Throw to explain the mechanics involved, as well as what you should be focusing on as you start accumulating income with your new build. To start, we encourage you to read these threads:

Nubtro's explanation of tick breakpoints: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4902400739
Barbarian collective adding data/theories of the PTR for DT mechanics: https://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6713012311

As this thread evolves, I will start adding more information based on different questions, builds, and mechanics.

Also, I will be declining all friend requests and giving you an opportunity to re-request so that I know you're interested in our gearing service. Please provide the following in the message request:
- Battle tag #
- Budget
- Play Style
Example: acrimony#1561, 107m, WW

This will allow me to view your Diablo Progress page so I can view the necessary gear checks prior to accepting your budget!

Good luck!

Update (October 23, 2012):
DBoy and I have decided to recruit one more person to work with us. This person will provide services in the areas of gear-checking prior to accepting budget and will refer each player to one of DBoy or I. This will allow us to maintain constant communication with prospective re-gear clients as well as clearing up backlog. This person won't be handling any of the gold, but his help will be rewarded via each budget fee returned. Once he gains our trust and builds up a good reputation with clients and other Barbarians, we'll look into expanding his role.

A major reason for this opening is because DBoy and I rarely get to play any more. As much as we do enjoy helping others, we do want to play as well. It has become more of a job than a hobby/game, so this helps us retain the enjoyment we get from gearing players while being afforded the time to loot for ourselves.

Would a 60-70m budget be good enough for the remainder of my gear on my barb (trying to gear for throw barb or 2H)

Do u offer this service also on euro server?

@Xail

I have no access to the European server, so not sure how the transaction could work. I don't know of the prices in the EU either D:

@Vanquish

I will talk to DBoy about that. Profiteering isn't our goal -- we just want to ensure that you're ready for patch. Looks like you got just about everything you need, but the lack of jewellry might be an issue. I'm willing to spend on rings/amulets, but very marginally knowing that the patch is coming out with upgraded level 63 jewellry.

^ exactly why I'm holding out until 1.0.5
I recently sold my ammys and rings

Id say So Vanquish, your currnet gear will work.
As for rings you can get some with high str and 4% or more crit chance anything under 4% wont be worth it since 1.05 rings can roll 6%. Amulets are going to be the big thing since they can roll 10% crit chance and 100% crit dmg in the upcoming patch.

Quick question
Let's say im going for an SS + rend + into the fray build (2H with a skorn)
Crit d + crit c rings > atk speed + crit c or AR and crit c?
Strength on all of course
I've liked attack speed but I haven't tried the build yet

How on earth is 200M a "minimum budget"?

What should I do with my gear? Probably quitting my monk and it saddens me :(

We want to ensure that the player has the right gear to farm MP4 and above. Since the proc-coefficient nerf of RLTW, there's an emphasis on life-steal now -- it's still possible to farm with 2,000 LOH, but it's better to farm with DPS and life-steal as it will take longer to take down elites at the mid-levels. In addition, the cost for gear is growing every day. Just today, I was checking out chest plates and noticed that they went back up to the pre-1.0.4. 40-50m levels.

We're open to lower budgets, but that's why I've asked players to leave a message with their battle tag, their budget, and their preferred style because I need to do a gear check to confirm that their budget can boost their survivability and efficiency without sacrificing what they already have together.

I suspect most players won't need our help, which is why I'm not only hoping to help other Barbarians figure it out themselves via this thread, but through other avenues like reading posts and getting a hold of the mechanics involved! It makes it easier for me to help since I would rather farm than accept the many requests I get in a day.

I spent a lot of time practicing and refining my play-style as a WW Barbarian and I'm starting to phase out my melee attacks like Frenzy and Bash because I don't really need it. That's my hope for the Barbarians out there -- to 'get' it.

How's my barb look? What MP level should I be able to do?

I also have a shield stashed with 1100 armor, 9% crit, 275 str, 18% block, 175 vit.

Judging by your gear, you look to be in good shape, Jim. I suspect you'll be able to do MP6 fairly easily given that you're above all the benchmarks I had observed from my original testing. I really wish Blizzard would stop moving the goal posts though -- so much conflicting information out there regarding the minimum requirements.

I do encourage you to pick up some attack speed though :D

Edit: And a socketed helm!

Acrimony, do you plan to stick with DT for patch or switch to a different build?

I've been contemplating if I want to go SnB as DT, picking up a 32%+ block SS with a nice crit roll. My gear is so so currently, I have over 200m that I'm waiting until after patch to spend since some prices may drop with the increase drop rates (hopefully...wouldnt be surprised if selling my 4 pieces of IK came to bite me lol)

Yup, I'm sticking to the Double Tornado; when I heard about the proc-coefficient nerf I was very worried about the DT viability at the higher levels. Those worries turned out to be baseless, so I started making minor changes to my building.

If you want some help gearing, fire me a request and I'll get you to when I can. DBoy187 will be around at some point as well. I would advise you to keep your IK set!
