Diablo® III

I don't know what to do with my follower

I'm a wizard I play with a kiting build and I want to start working on my follower. First off which one would best fit a kiting build, and should I equip xp and magic find items on him? I'm not sure what to put on them at all in fact - straight dps? I have no idea - elaborate anyone?

Id guess you want a tanky templar for your build, but take a look at the maximus sword
for your enchantress, the demon tanks well IMO.

Im having a lot of fun with my enchantress after I gave her a maximus sword I had drop for me.

Sold the one I found and got her a INT rolled version.

Check out some of the follower threads, and the follower forum.

I was going with a mix of exp gear, but went for pure dps after finding some cheap
stuff to bump her up to 11k. The maximus is cool, and the summoned demon does
pretty good dmg and pops up every encounter, he is a great tank too.

Would a str one for my templar be just as good? I mean, I don't have any gear on my enchantress haha

I recently geared my follower for Magic Find since it was not only what I was looking for, but also the easiest to gear up.

Sometimes it’s not just identifying the role you want your follower to fulfill, but also remembering that the measurement of their success will be proportionate to the quality of gear you can give them.

my barb's scoundrel uses the buriza crossbow to freeze enemies and it has made him to be pretty amazing.

I've tried MF builds, DPS builds and tank builds for followers and none have proven to be as useful as the freezing route. a lot of ppl also like the enchantress with a maximus since it summons a demon to fight alongside you as well.

i use a templar and put a crappy echoing fury with high fear % on him as well as a shield with % chance to stun. i like putting cc effects on my follower.

its quite fun to see monster's try to run away in fear in slow motion :)

Hellrack is great on the scoundrel, and cheap. You get a chance to root enemies in place, plus a good deal of bleed damage. Something like 6k-10k: not a crazy amount, but it definitely helps.

A scoundrel with windforce bow and +cold damage stone of jordan also works well - everything he shoots gets slowed and sometimes knocked-back.

Important tips for either method: 1) make sure he is using multishot. 2) load him up with as much IAS and VIT as possible.

Yeah, for a wizard I'm a really big fan of high knockback% windforce on a scoundrel. If you stack ias and use the multi-shot and crippling arrow skills the monsters don't even get near you.

Do the devs have any ideas on eventually letting the Followers have full armor sets like in D2?

Might help with the useless gear situation for some people

I like mine to do decent damage, buff me, and survive at the same time.

Scoundrel - Buriza (w Slow and Freeze) + Star of Az (w Stun and Freeze) + 9% IAS Rings - gg free, stun, slow, pierce

I also play a kiting wizard. After normal, I gave up focusing on DPS for my templar, as I didn't want to hit up the AH for him. So I've just been gearing him with drops that enhance his survivability so he can be a meat shield and heal me. Halfway through A3 Inferno, and he really only dies when he's an idiot and stands in DoT pools.

If you're playing a kiting build, I don't think you can do any better than a windforce on your scoundrel. Don't worry about the dps, just look for one with 45% or so knockback. You can find em very cheap an it keeps mobs off you just a little longer so you can dps em down.

My scoundrel does over 13K damage and I like it when the knockback kicks in. I will try different things with him. I like my gal to .

If blizzard was to let us put full armor on our followers, I would have him or her run the MP lvl's. I could make my followers really powerful, more so then alot of players. Oh what fun that would be.
