Tal Rasha bonus is a joke

I have a funny feeling the Tal Rasha set bonus might be a bug. In 1.04, they introduced "<element> skills to +X% more damage" affix, but in 1.03 Tal rasha was "+X% element damage", which, although weak compared to other sets, was still useful.

But given the confusion of the skill names, is it possible that the developer ACCIDENTALLY used the wrong affix when they created the new Tal Rasha set in 1.04? It is possible they MEANT for it to still have it's original (somewhat useful) bonus?

I can't imagine how anybody could "deliberately" design the set so bad, lol.

My theory is that the Chantodo's set bonuses are so good (for just a pair of items), the game designers decided to water-down the bonuses of Tal Rasha's.

It sure would be nice if there was a +all-resist or "x% less damage from elites" as the first bonus of Tal Rasha's, especially now that they've nerfed the mitigation from energy armor.

It's kinda dumb there is no "arcane skills deal 3% more damage" anywhere, since so many skills are arcane. Maybe tack that on a full set bonus, the archons would like it I think. Should be something like:

(2)
+3% fire skill
+50 int
+50 vit

(3)
+3% lightning skill
+8% movement speed

(4)
+3% cold skill
+2 AP regen per second

(5)
+3% arcane skill
+10 max AP

Yes, we should have a full set bonus because it would be just enough stats so that someone might actually want to complete the set but at the same time not be OP.

how about

2 set
+7% attack speed

3 set
+ 1.5% lifesteal

4 set
+10 apoc

And if they decide to change the set bonus only I highly doubt they'll make current ones legacy. in 1.0.4 the old set bonus items became legacy because lots of nat's set users wanted the 2 disc regen kept and also it's completely new set of items and not just names. Only same in looks. This time if they change set bonus for tal rasha it's just the change in set bonus but still the exact same stats so why make things complicated and make it legacy.

If they increased it from 3% to 5% you would all be saying how OP tal rasha's is. The modifier is the same as the one found on burning axe of sankis. 3% more total fire damage is never something to completely write off.

If it was arcane damage, sure. But fire?!

a small up for the blue not to Forgot that they have to answer the question about this bonus ....

well the ammy itself can add x% to arcane, fire, cold or lightning... the source is ok.. but set bonuses (taken rolls on items into consideration) should be

2- 10 apoc

3 - 130 intel

4 - 10% fire skill damage + 10 max AP

keeping in mind ammy rolls a % already, can roll ias or LOH; belt is a POS, source is meh, helm is ugly as sin but can be decent and armor is perfectly balenced (can roll high intel/vita, ias and AR)

in reality, if a wiz wanted LOH, they can go blackthorn. if they want high resis, go zunni but tal should exemplify raw power and give back for some useless items.. i mean tal belt vs witching hour...

The apoc bonus is a very nice idea!! Give tal users an option for 3 apoc pieces since they have to forgo it on the helmet.

but it doesn't give you 3% more fire damage

it gives 3% more damage to fire skills

the axe gives you "Adds 5-6% to Fire Damage"
just like the Triumvirate, you get the extra no matter which skill you use

but with Tal Rasha's you have to use a fire skill to get the bonus

what fire skills do wizards have ?
hydra with no runes ? -- nobody uses
hydra with Mammoth ? -- nobody uses
4 versions of Meteor ? -- people use meteor, but if you look at

http://www.diabloprogress.com/top_skills/stat_dps_unbuffed_500

you'll see it's only 3.2% of the top 500 DPS players

Tal Rashs's bonuses are horrible

The axes gives both the elemental % bonus and the elemental skill bonus. I was refering to the skill bonus. It is a separate factor in the damage formula.

To simplify matters, all you have to do is remember this:

Blizz description of damage is basically misleading and confusing. Go complain.

There are two type of bonus that you can see.

(1) % damage (any thing -- fire, poison, lightning, arcane).

Eg in the Tal Rasha ammy, you get a % bonus damage for any one elemental.

The trick to remember is that it means the bonus is on the NON-ELEMENTAL damage in your weapon -- the part in your weapon that just says Min and Max damage.

It does not matter what the actual bonus is for (fire, lightning....etc). It will be applied the same for the non-elemental damage.

Confused? Just remember that it does not make logical sense. It is just how blizz works in their calculations -- JUST ADD THE % BONUS TO THE NON-ELEMENTAL PART and IGNORE WHAT THE DAMAGE IS FOR (whether fire etc).

This is why a Trium source is so sort after (6+6+6% damage bonus max!) and why weapons with no elemental damage is so expensive.

(2) % damage to skill

The magic word "SKILL" means the bonus only applies if you use that skill. So if you have a % bonus for fire skill, you will not get the bonus if you use a lightning spell.

Remember it applies only to said specific SKILL.

Once you can get it in your head that this is how blizz talks, everything will be clear.

Hope this helps.

Tal Rasha set sucks
I will just take the chest for IAS 9%
The old version of Tal Rasha did work like Trium, but the current one really sucks.

Better stick with WD set 130 int and 55 AR
Anyway, Wizard is still OP in Blizzard's mind. So, they won't do anything on this.

The Bump for a Blizz response to this. I'm gong for 4 pieces of Tal just for the AP regen.
