Diablo® III

(Idea) Random Dungeons/Events (expanded)

OK, I have seen a few posts about D3 needing an endless dungeon. But I would like to expand on the idea.

First off I also play Torchlight II and WC3 custom maps and that is where a large portion of the ideas here comes from.

For starts there needs to be a recipe (something like infernal machine, but we will call it Random Dungeon Scroll for the sake of this post) that you can spawn a one time use item that opens a portal that gives a randomly generated dungeon/event WITH randomly generated modifiers that can be seen after the scroll is crafted (Torchlight II has done it nicely). ONCE THE PERSON WHO USED THE SCROLL LEAVES GAME MONSTERS GIVE NO DROPS OR XP (CHESTS INCLUDED) this is to prevent people from selling bound scrolls with out wait.

Scroll handling (ideas)
    1. Two different recipes (Random Dungeon and Random Event)
    2. One recipe (randomly gives one or the other)
    3. Four recipes (one of the 4 different dungeon/event types, DUNGEON/EVENT TYPES)
    4. Scrolls are Bound character/account
    5. A fifth recipe able to craft a scroll that is not bound in any way but modifiers are unable to be seen until scroll is used (increased gold/material count and has a cool down by account also to help prevent AH flooding)
    6. Possibly make bound scrolls useable only in private games

Some ideas for what the dungeon/events could be...

DUNGEON TYPES (normal or timed)
    1. Endless dungeon
    2. Limited amount of floors with Uber boss at the end

EVENT TYPES (wave idea from Warcraft maps)
    1. Endless waves of enemies (lower base drop/xp rates)
    2. Limited amount of waves with Uber boss at end
    3. Maze (timed only)

ENDLESS DUNGEON/EVENT MODIFIERS
  • Boss/es every set amount of floors/waves
  • Add new modifier every set amount of floors\waves
  • Monster Power increases after Monster Power by (set amount/%) from (kill count/floor/wave/player death)
  • Monster Type by (act/race/melee/ranged) type changes by (floor/wave/mix monster type)
  • Limited amount of lives (0/1/2/3/4/5 ect.)

  • Unable to use town portal but random merchants may appear on floor

  • MAZE MODIFIERS
  • Boss/treasure room at end
  • XP/MF/GF lowers over time (Boss/Treasure room) main source of drops(timed maze only)
  • Reward at end based on speed (timed only)

  • Now for the modifiers that are randomly generated when the Random Dungeon Scroll. These could be either +/- for effect with a chosen range of effect (w/ sub modifiers).

    Monster/Player Modifiers
  • Damage/Defense (melee/ranged/magic/physical/elemental one or all)
    Speed (attack/move)
  • HP Gain/Thorns (% life on hit/on hit/regen<set amount/%max life>
  • Chance on (hit/attack/kill <most likely AOE effect>/when hit) (stun/freeze/slow/root/poison)

  • PLAYER ONLY MODIFIERS
  • Resource gain/use amount
  • Drop chance for (equipment/recipes) sub mod (rare/legendary/set)
  • Drop chance for gems any of the higher tier gems not normally found (might only show up on higher levels of endless dungeon/event as a randomly added mod)
  • HP Gain (on kill/by resource use <possible skills cost life>)
  • Magic find/Gold Find/XP

  • MONSTER ONLY MODIFIERS (only + effect accept spawn count)
  • Monster spawn count per or by rarity (normal/champ/rare)
  • Monsters steal one ability of any player in game (champion/rare/boss only)

  • RANDOM IDEAS
  • Random chance for a boss unique to these dungeons/events to spawn
  • New shrines unique to these dungeons/events
  • New monsters unique to these dungeons/events

I would support something like this.

Currently the game is pretty bland for me and adding more diversity when it comes to gameplay might make me come back.

Otherwise I'm just waiting for a decent patch or pvp to come out. No point playing a boring game when you can wait for it to become interesting.

And that is why I started playing Torchlight II =)
I wonder if Blizz plays D2 mods and other games for ideas?

It's taken more than 7 months for them to make PvP.

Endless dungeon might take them 3 years bro

    Sounds great for endgame content.

How do you get the scrolls though?

Does the scroll disappear when you open the portal to the random new zone?
