I was interested in seeing how exactly blizzard came up with the exp/level for paragon levels, so I wrote a quick program to analyze the data. It turns out it's a very simple linear sequence, but one in which the common difference changes at these breakpoints: paragon levels 60, 70, 80, and 90.
(I think blizzard likes these kind of sequences, the data for Monster Power follow similar patterns, but I digress...)
Anyway, here's the data.
*Hours are calculated at a rate of 60 million XP/hour, which seems to be a relatively common number I see thrown around when talking about XP farming rates. Note that this will depend highly on your class, build, gear, playstyle, and farm route.
The most efficient way to farm Paragon XP is to select a MP level where you can 1-shot nearly all the white monsters. Put a ruby in your hat, wear a Hellfire ring and give your follower one, and give yourself as many mobility skills as you can (also make sure you have 24% movespeed from your gear). Then run Arreat Crater Level 2 backwards -> Keep Depths Level 2 -> Rakkis backwards.
For a very nice pie chart of the data, see this image (not created by me): http://media.diablofans.com/images/news/2012/august/art/chart.jpg

The most interesting part is how a such simple pattern could not be detect by the human mind, hehehehe.
I'm sure we could have figured it out if we looked at the numbers and thought about it, but I'm also pretty sure most people haven't pulled up the numbers and started staring at them trying to figure out a pattern.
Sorry if that "Progress to 100" column is a bit demoralizing to people, but if you live by the motto "Ignorance is bliss" you shouldn't click my threads. ^.^
This is at 60 million XP per hour - this is probably more of a ratio for Barbs than other classes (although TR monks can surpass 100 mil/hr handily). I only play a barb so that's really where I'm getting my data (personally I'm around 65 or 70 mil per hour, last time I measured), that and posts I've seen about people discussing their xp rates.
Free bump and good data, wondering what people's play style is to get 60m xp / hour though. I'm guessing mp0, single player with something like 200+ % exp? What's the farm route?
I'm trying the TR monk, but need more spirit regen (actually not easy to reach 12 or whatever). and definitely more damage to 1 shot everything.
Since this whole game is really about drops, I struggle not picking up yellows and opening boxes/chests. I'm guessing this is most of what slows me down.
