New EFI firmware updates for the 13" Retina MacBook Pro and Late 2012 iMacs have been released by Apple today. Because two of the three main hardware fixes are rather important, this should be considered a critical update.

(Late 2012) 13in MacBook Pro Retina EFI Update v1.1:

About MacBook Pro Retina EFI Update v1.1
This update is recommended for all 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (late 2012) models. This update improves sleep performance, enhances Thunderbolt router support, fixes an HDMI display issue, and improves compatibility when using the 5GHz band in Wi-Fi.

Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: After Update is complete:

Build version: 0106.03

ROM version: MBP102.88Z.0106.B03.1211161133


(Late 2012) iMac EFI Update 2.0:

About iMac EFI Update 2.0
This update is recommended for all iMac (late 2012) models. This update contains general performance fixes pertaining to sleep and Thunderbolt, and improves compatibility when using the 5GHz band in Wi-Fi.
Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: After Update is complete:

Build version: 010A.05
ROM version: IM131.88Z.010A.B05.1211151146


WiFi Update 1.0 for Late-2012 Macs (w/10.8.2 Build 12C2034):

About Mac Wi-Fi Update 1.0

This update is recommended for all late 2012 Mac systems. This update improves compatibility when using the 5GHz band in Wi-Fi.

Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: To confirm the update has been applied, the CFBundleVersion string of the AirPortBrcm4311.kext will need to be checked.

New driver delivered in update: AirPortBrcm4331.kext CFBundleVersion = 612.20.15

/System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortBrcm4331.kext/Contents/Info.plist


Important information regarding the Wi-Fi Update: The Nov 29th re-release of the 10.8.2 Update for Late-2012 Macs was build 12C3104. The original release (posted Oct. 24th, later pulled) of that update was build 12C2034.

Make sure you are currently at Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Build 12C3104 before applying the Wi-Fi Update.

As with the 10.8.2 OS update and previous EFI updates, it is recommended that immediately following a successful firmware update that you also reset the SMC.
