Diablo® III

Gem Concepts for 1.10

Disclaimer: I do not work for Blizzard. These were made for fun. I know the photoshop job is bad.
Goal: To make Acts 1, 2, 4 and bosses relevant to farm again. Also, to add diversity to builds.
Note: These are the final forms of the gems. Ideally, the inferior versions would drop and then one would craft them into these. I know that these may not be balanced.

I've been wanting new gems since FOREVER! Diamond should add attack speed to weapon.

Not sure I'm digging the rest though, but I like the Diamond and Skull idea, a little nostalgia from DII.

Though, I think Diamond and Skull would work (if inline with a theme and assuming this is at the Radiant Star level, that is) better if they are:

Diamond
Helm: +50 All Resistance
Weapon: Increases Damage Against Elites by 5%
Other: +5% Armor

Skull
Helm: +500 Life Regeneration
Weapon: +5% Life Steal
Other: +100 Life on Hit

Cool ideas.

(I'm not allowed to post, so I kept it short.)

Change Black Diamond to Resource Cost reduction and you're golden. Nobody cares about reflect damage (unless it's an elite affix, then everybody cares).

I think these are some great ideas. Anything that gives us more customization at this point is much needed.

I absolutely love this post. The gem side of things has always looked like they handed it off to an intern and nobody had time to look it over. How many gems were cut out of D2, and why make socketed reversible (as if to imply you think the Gemming game will be useful?) only to slash out gems and produce 3 very bland categories of gem bonuses?

I like most of what you've come up with, not specific #'s, that kinda thing may need tweaking for balance. If any of them have random rolls they wouldn't be sellable on the AH. They'd have to be like the Hellfire ring.

The Uniques you came up with I think are pretty damn clever, like Sapphire, and Jade. They don't necessarily all need "Radiant Star" in them. If they're just going to be "unique items" that you happen to be able to socket - forget the idea of tiering for them and make them all have the highest roll bump - drop wise, on the level of the demonic organs. Hell, want an easy day Blizzard? Use the exact same MP basis to compute drop rates! Done early, have a burger.

Seriously. These may not be the perfect affixes, or the perfect values for each roll. But this is brilliant. I really hope they don't need you to tell them that the gem setup is ridiculous. It's so limited. Oh yay, I have 20m gold, now I can upgrade my gem and add 4 more Strength/Int/Dex! How boring is that. Gimme like a Vibrating Cockring of Hate that falls out of Cydaea when you kill her (from Azmodan -- there's a "terrifying image") and gives 50% Chance to Fear! :D

What about in PvP?

Diamond

Weapon: Increases Damage Against Elites by 5%
Other: +5% Armor

Skull
Helm: +500 Life Regeneration
Weapon: +5% Life Steal
Other: +100 Life on Hit

One of the goals of these gems is to diversify builds. Lowering the item differences will negatively affect the goal. Instead of lowering item differences, why not buff monsters to pre-nerf levels? This way we accomplish the goal of diversifying builds and not allowing any one build to be over powered.

100 LoH is too weak to compare with 500 HP regen or 5% Life Steal. I think you meant 1k LoH.

IMO.... slight modification...

Demon Heart
Helm: Summon a Spectral Andariel to Fight For You
Weapon: +xx DMG to Demons
Other: +xx % chance to Immobilize on Hit"

That's what the Monster Power was for.

The reason behind the reduction for some of the gem slotting, especially the others section is because you can slot them into various places other than the weapon and helm e.g. rings, ammies, pants, (boots - ice climbers), (gloves - tasker & theo), and etc. which if the bonus is so great, people could stack it up to insane levels.

Take my re-suggested Diamond - dual wielders gets up to 10% extra damage vs elites, +50 AR and 50% armor boost if slotted for all other parts (taking into consideration the person uses ice climbers, tasker & theo, slotted rings, slotted ammy, 2-slot pants and 3-slot chest).

I however agree that certain sockets should be unique, like how jewels work in DII.

Would be good. But 5% is still too much, remember that 1h weap have a max of 3%. There's a reason lol.

Great idea. Much better than the stat sticks in the current gems. It's like they only spent 2 minutes of development time designing the current gems.

1h's have a max of 3%. 2h's have a max of 6%.

Thanks for this! The picture of the rainbow diamond gave me the best laugh in 2013, so far.

frankly, make these drop from purples and give them multifaceted bonuses.

the current problem with gems is they are so 1 dimensional, they make the choice of gem binary. (ie: go crit dmg or go loh, but the loh is insignificant, so the choice is always crit dmg)

eg: demonika the wicked drops the wicked gem (10% charm rate, 2.5% chance increases damage taken by 20% for the next 3 seconds, you also gain 500 hp regen.)

thx to Item system you still would go for

main stat for everything and an emerald for your weapon.

CC and CD have become the new god.

Not bad.

Usually with threads like this, we get all kinds of wacky bat !@#$ insane stuff, but I like the thought process and the implementation of them is neat with specific places dropping them. The stats aren't exactly realistic, but w/e :P

Bump - Really hope Blizazrd sees this!
