Because that's one of the roles a Community Manager serves. We're here to engage with players as well as help maintain the location in which your conversations are occurring.
These forums are intended to give players a place to discuss Diablo III with one another, and that purpose gets muddled very quickly when the entire front page of a forum is littered with topics all discussing the same thing. And, as Community Managers, we'll work to correct that issue by locking threads, or deleting them outright if the content is inappropriate enough.
We're completely fine with players talking about Jay's transition, or his message, or even a combination of the two (so long as you're civil about it) in this thread: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/7592242994. There's just no reason to spam obscenities, rude remarks, links to the message, or one-liner statements over and over by creating new threads.
