I picked up this dagger somewhere in Act I on normal, not too long after I was 15th level:
I am looking at the charts for dagger tiers (e.g. http://www.d3lexicon.com/item-type/dagger#items, http://www.diablowiki.com/Dagger_List) and am trying to figure out how this item can exist. Its damage range of 21-41 is not like anything listed, and the 48.8 DPS looks more like a lvl 37-40 item than a lvl 17 one. This is a blue item that, based on DPS, outshines yellow items that are 15 levels higher.
I noticed this when I realized, as I hit level 30, that I *still* could not find a replacement wand or staff that could match its DPS.
Does anyone know of better item charts that would have a place for this thing? Have you ever found a blue item that had extraordinary DPS for its level, with a weird range of damage values like this?

Actually, it IS the gem. Why?? Do the math, it's very simple in this case:
Damage according to image: 24-41
Damage from gem (14-14)
Elemental damage (affix) (2-4)
Base weapon damage 7-23 (which is 1 above the max charted, not a big change)
Finishing the calculations, let's get the DPS, that is: (min damage + max damage)/2*APS
In this case:
(24+41)/2*1,5=48,75 (rounded to 48,8)
Problem solved: the "incredible" damage is easily explained with a few steps.
For what is worth, right? The problem is that, at level 60, only emeralds are useful, the other gems are garbage.
