I'd just like to point out that people calling OWE inefficient are absolute morons.
It is our most efficient passive by a country mile. There are multiple slots where you can stack double resists without very much loss to yourself. Look at my helm, shoulders, gloves and boots. That's over 100 resist per item. Guess what, I can run rings and an amulet with basically no defensive stats. That is an astronomical cost savings. My items are even FAR from the best rolls I could get.
Everyone wants main stat + vit + AR + other stuff. What you can do with OWE is go for just main stat + vit on some and hit up double resists on others. This reduces gearing costs by a huge factor.
It's like everyone wanting to buy a mempo when the dollar to DPS increase (unless you are already godly) is tiny vs a good inna's radiance.
I am a completely non-RMAH monk. I'm at 162.5k unbuffed DPS when using an SoJ. 189.6k when using my hellfire. I run with 620 AR and 5k armor. I get 260 AR from OWE.
I'll drop OWE when we get something worthwhile to replace it. The only reason people don't use OWE is because they get some silly sense of superiority out of it or they are rich as hell.
Right now I easily solo MP8 (if I felt like getting more lifesteal I could do MP10 but too slow to make it worthwhile). If I had geared without OWE I'd be lucky to get out of MP5 or 6.
Building a monk without $$ is completely idiotic without using OWE. For the same DPS and EHP as my monk without OWE you'd have to spend billions or get hella lucky crafting.
OWE IS VERY EFFICIENT, IT GIVES YOU MORE OPTIONS FOR GEARING (HIGHER DP/EHP) FOR LESS GOLD WHICH IS BASICALLY THE DEFINITION OF EFFICIENCY.
OWE can only be considered inefficient when you at the bleeding edge of gearing and can no longer gain 100+ AR out of it because your gear is just too damn amazing. Since 99.9% of the community is not at that point I think we can safely call OWE a very efficient passive.
I didn't spent a single cent from the RMAH, my gears are not godly. I am only an EF away from you.I am 560AR w/o OwE. I run MP10. You are stapled with THAT 2 passive, while I am with none.
I can predict myself to be the 1st ever passive free monk in the community to hit 200k with all the necessary ehp requirements in due course - 600AR+5karmor is not far from what I am now.
~ yuhhaur, the OwE & STI free monk ~
i dont think OWE is inefficient, i just dont like to gear hinging off a passive. I dont mind spending gold, coz thats what i collect them for. And yeh i never even flipped an item on AH, let alone buy gold from RMAH.
The idea that anyone who want to gear away from OWE needs to be hella rich is inaccurate. All that you require is patience. I dont even use STI on mp8 and below.
As i have said elsewhere, for me the game is not about efficiency. There are passives that can change the way a monk can play, and i love it. OWE is a passive that, while it can be efficient when gearing on budget, can be unnessesary if you gear for all res.
You cant just assume everyone who plays this game have only the "dollar to DPS/EHP" in mind when they gear. Of coz it doesnt mean those who doesnt care for it must be wielding a credit card, it can also mean they are just having fun without the headache of checking some calc just to make sure the gold they spend is justified in every possible way.
Ppl who dont play in the way u think, doesnt mean they are all morons.
I'll tell you what: if you don't use either AH, OWE is gold. The odds that you'll find a bunch of AR pieces are low, and you'll be forced to continue finding AR pieces to upgrade (unless, of course, you don't mind being a little more vulnerable against a couple affixes). But OWE allows you to make use of a wider range of gear. In the last two weeks, I've gone from being a "cold monk" to an "arcane monk" to a "fire monk." And I've gotten better all the while. Why? OWE. It gives me the flexibility I need to maximize my finds.
The thing is if you stuck with OWE/sti you'd probably be over 200k already and our other passives aren't exactly game breaking, well, they in fact, suck.
I'm not arguing that going without OWE/STI isn't possible I'm arguing that people who say it's inefficient are crazy.
Being stuck with our best passive isn't a bad thing. This is like a barbarian bragging about not needing weapon master.
i would assume karandor means that owe is cost efficient
the removal of the use of faith in the light as a staple skill tho, now means that owe is inefficient imo because having 2 free passive skills is now much more useful
Except he didn't mention that in the statement quoted.
Just to be clear, "efficiency" and "cost efficiency" are ENTIRELY different things. Anyone who claims otherwise IS a moron.

Really? I don't think so about the gearing part.
Look at your items, look at mine. we are almost same in sheet dps(approx 170k dps)/ehp (40k hp/5k armor/600AR), but you are stacking OwE and already taking into consideration of the EF's dps buff. what is your next upgrade path? I believe in order to push further the dps, you need to roll trifacta (so do I) or more dex (which will need to sacrifice some SR roll for this).
Take your nat boot for example, in order to squeeze more dex out from there, you need to roll dex+vit/dex+str/dex+int, and not dex+resist,so are other slots.
my path is simpler (provided budget alllowed) -> EF, 240+dex/vit nat boot, trifacta amulet/glove
talking about passives, with GL+combostrike in coop I already can buff myself to 200k, even in solo ES is useful allow me to store excessive spirit for WoL spamming. And there are also NDE that cheat you death, TGP that buff your dodge, CoR that gives you spirit regen. There are so many possibilities in selection after you free up more passive slots.
The removal of Faith in the Light by many monks is probably a mistake.
