Get real, please. I live in Los Angeles and frequent OC. 100k is a lot of money for most people. For white-collar professionals at the top of their industry, you are correct, it's not breaking any records. Most of the people I know outside of my field make 45-50k per year, with college degrees.
Your point would be slightly more legitimate if we were talking New York, where costs are even more staggering, but even there, your average person isn't pulling 100k a year.
To the OP - I couldn't agree with you more. The "it's just a gaming forum" is a lame excuse. To me, what this means is that you can refrain from speaking like you're giving a professional presentation. Contractions and informal language is allowed. So is internet slang. That doesn't mean you can bash your skull into the keyboard and expect people to take you seriously.
When I was younger, my father was quick to remind me that, whether it is ultimately right or wrong, people are judged on presentation. The way you speak, write, dress, and behave dictates how other people will perceive you. I try, with every fiber of my being, not to dismiss people with tats on 90% of their body and pierced lips who come into a professional office and expect to be taken seriously. I remind myself that in the most general sense, we are all human beings and entitled to a certain dignity.
Then I visit the online forums and my eyes are hammered by "LOL! Wtf evr scrub! These devs r rediculous! How can you be 10 years making a game and their still beta testing it. Whole team shuould be fired!!!"
For those who are not native speakers, my criticism does not apply. I commend anyone for attempting to learn another language and speak it. For native speakers, I can only shake my head. Of course, your opinions aren't totally invalid just because you communicate like a retarded chimpanzee, but neither are they especially convincing. Like it or not, the way you communicate connotes, at a bare minimum, the level of effort you put into what you're saying. If you can't be bothered to write in a manner that doesn't resemble typographic vomit, then you can't expect me to give it much consideration.
