Just started playing D3 and I think the game is awesome. Most of the things I have been able to google but now I need some inputs on crafting.
I can't seem to get any use for my crafting. Once I can wear the things I can craft I have already found better drops or found something much cheaper on the AH. Is crafting worth it in the game or is it mostly a credit sink?
I saw that the low lvl crafting mats were selling for 1k each on the AH. Is it worth it to just salvage all blue items and sell the mats?
I am guessing that crafting is a big deal in end game (?) and therefore good to train. However, is there more to leveling crafting than just puching the "train button" at the blacksmith? And if not, can't I just sell the low level mats on the AH, buy items for leveling and then when I'm max level and have much money just spam the "train button", get my blacksmith to max level and use the high level mats (?) to make epic armour? Are there any use for my low level mats in end-game crafting or will they simply be unused in my stach if I don't use them to make low level items (which never are good enough anyway!).
It seems so expensive to level the blacksmith for my low level (very poor) character and it really never seems to pay off. :(
Thanks in advance guys, would be really happy to get someone experienced to tell me what to do. Right now I am really confused... :)
IME, crafting is usually a waste. You can always find stuff on the AH cheaper.
The exception is that there are some new high end plans where you can choose either Dex, Vit, Str, or Int plus they get 5 other random mods. It took about 10 tries to get shoulders that were better than the Vile Ward that I was using on mmy DH. She is also using crafted bracers. I haven't yet crafted gloves better than what I found on the AH, but it's possible. When you craft these items they are Bind on Account, so you can't sell them on the AH, nor can you find them on the AH.
This is IMHO. Others may disagree with me.
It's the auction house where you can sell and buy equipment to/from other players :)
Yeah thanks for the answers. Stopped crafting, sold my mats and yeah, the low lvl mats sell for 1k each on the AH so now I have a few hundred thousand which is plenty for buying items for my lvl from other players. I checked at higher levels too and to be honest, if I don't need the best gear in the game I could even see affordable high level items there.
Too bad they made crafting so luck-based that it becomes hard for new players to craft.
I love crafting in games. Diablo is no different.
At low level, there isn't a lot I crafted. A few pieces here or there that I wasn't finding (i.e. looking for a mighty weapon for my barb). Did a few rare crafts as well. However at low level you mostly just level the blacksmith (jeweler I found a bit more useful in combining up gems).
Though there are some rare/legendary plans, even at low levels, you can find even at low levels. Check out things like Cain's Honor set. I have yet to find it as a drop but I have seen it in the AH, a bit expensive for me but you may be luckier.
End game it gets a bit more interesting. The Archon legendary plans are fun to craft and have very high level stats. Great for players just pushing into Inferno (like my barbarian). Though you'll have to have a max level Blacksmith to craft these items. There is also a craftable item to get you into a hidden world, much like the cow level in Diablo 2. This item is crafted in normal, then upgraded with nightmare materials and so on through the difficulties.
While leveling I found it quite easy to level up the blacksmith as I went. Money was never an issue and, like I said, I crafted as needed. This was great for when I hit inferno and was already set up to use Inferno level materials. Then when the Archon plans came, I was able to buy them off the auction house and craft almost right away!
Anyway that's just my experience with it. As I leveled it was just an extra boost on my first character. Though remember it's account wide (normal and hardcore are independent though), so your main didn't use it but that level 1 you make next time can get a bit of a jump on gear thanks to crafting. End game has been pretty satisfying however, especially the Archon items. I think it was worth it leveling them both up to 10 while I was on my adventure. Just remember they are always adding to this game so even if it doesn't look appealing now, that could change later.
most low level items that you craft ryt now would be a waste except for cain's fate plans cause that's worth over 400 mil on the ah ryt now. i suggest waiting to craft when you reach inferno cause the new crafting plans are really awesome when they hit. when patch 1.0.8 hits then they said lower level items can roll ilvl 60 or higher stats depending on what level you play on
