Hello i would like to know the mechanics behind items with percentage of specific magic damage items. For example storm crow, zuni boots, or tal rasha amulet, all these items has something like 5-6% added lighning, fire, cold, poison ect. damage. Does it adds 5% to all type of damage you do or is it only increases your damage if you are using same type of magic, for example electrocute with storm crow, witch they both lightning?
This has confused alot of people due to how poorly this affix is worded. Because of a bug that blizz has decided not to fix, +% dmg affixes like the one on storm crow increase all damage you deal, regardless of type. For example, the +7-8% lightning from storm crow and +7-8% poison from zuni's trail both increase damage dealt by archon skills even though they are arcane type. You only get the full effect of the dmg bonus, however, if you are using are using a "black" weapon that has +min/max damage as opposed to +fire, ice, holy, etc. Thats why black damage weapons are so much more valuable than elemental ones. +Avg dmg rolls like those found on rings and amulets are also enhanced by these +% dmg affixes.
