Notes:
1. Each run was started in town with zero Fury.
2. Did not include random dungeon spawns.
3. Cleared the whole area and killed all monsters, even the big ones.
4. Kept track of experience gain, lifetime kills and time for each run.
5. The build was no generator WW+RLTW+OPKS+Lacerate+Brawler.
6. The exp / hour value is calculated with a +510% exp bonus in mind (*6.1), which means MP10 with no NV stacks and no further experience bonuses. The nature of this research requires that you don´t get NV stacks because you rely on the profile lifetime kills value which would be inaccurate because of the collateral damage while killing elite packs.
7. The exp / kill value displays the average base experience per kill in the particular area. This value is very useful because it´s stable and can be used to determine exp gain on different MP levels and with different experience bonuses. The final exp gain per monster kill is calculated as follows:
experience formula = base exp * (1 + (MP exp bonus + gear exp bonus)/100) * (1 + (0.15*NV + 0.1*number of additional players + 0.25 if enlightened shrine is activated) + bonus exp per kill + massacre bonus
Note that due to the position of the massacre bonus, it plays an absolutely negligible role in experience gain (meaning that in most cases killing one additional monster at MP10 gives you more exp than whatever massacre you may achieve).

The charts are based on the following data I gathered. I´ll leave it here for a while as proof and for people who care about the actual research data. What may look like a mess of values, contains base experience of monsters, starting/finishing experience, exp gain, lifetime kills gain, time of runs, average exp per kill, kills per minute and exp/hour (the latter 3 are included in the ranking). Note that I did at least 5 runs for each area.

Most efficient Act 2 run based on the researched data (note that this is currently the best exp route in the game until proven otherwise):

VotA->Oasis->Ruins->Channels (VORC)

1. Vault of the Assassin (#10) -> arguably the fastest 5 NV stacks in the game
2. Dahlgur Oasis (#4) -> start from the lower left "Path" waypoint, clear the whole area
3. The Forgotten Ruins (#3) -> enter as soon as you find it, afterwards leave through the entrance
4. Western & Eastern Channel (#1) -> enter from the Oasis

Additional areas:
5. The Storm Halls (#2) -> the best optional area to finish your run but due to its random nature (layout and monster spawns), you may hit a jackpot or get roughly the exp of Oasis.

Important note: To keep the VotA checkpoint, stick to the lower part of the way to the Halls. If you try to go upwards into The Unknown Depths, you´ll lose the VotA checkpoint.

Other optional areas that are solid:
6. Desolate Sands (#5) -> clear the whole map, the dungeons aren´t good (except VotA and its elite packs)
7. Hidden Aqueducts (#7) -> enter from the Ancient Path checkpoint.

Values is parenthesis display the ranking of the area by exp/hour, which is based on the data you´ll find in the first post.

As you can see, the core of Act 2 runs is Oasis-Ruins-Channels. I´m very positively surprised that they managed to eventually fix Oasis as it was very bad on the PTR but the new large packs of Writhing Deceivers + Serpent Magi (snakes) turned it into one of the most consistent areas in the game (comparable to KD2 and Fields of Misery). Add the fact that the Forgotten Ruins are linear (no true dead end) and give more exp than KD2 and you have my favourite A2 area. The Western and Eastern channels are quite random, both in map layout (dead ends) and monster type spawns, but despite this, they produce the best results (exp gain).

Nubtro, can you please make some of the tables clearer? Namely, label all of the columns and what they mean. I am interested in the data but I can't yet decipher it.

Hey silverfire...if only these forums would be better. I have everything in an excel file as well as in my usual notepad (just copypasted the stuff from notepad).

Let´s see (btw. it´s true that the format changes as I did more runs sometimes I calced more stuff right away and sometimes I just calced and wrote it directly into the excel sheet). Sorry didn´t really try to make the data more readable - I was relying on the fact that 99% would skip that haha.

Weeping Hollow before / after. I wrote down the base exp values in 1.0.7, I believe they were true on the PTR as well and the changes (now mentioned in the patch notes) only made the live game. Note that I gathered the data before the patch notes included the exact values (by how much the exp/loot gain was reduced).

The columns are monster - base exp(1.0.7) - base exp(1.0.8) - status(changed/stayed the same); forelast value is the average base exp of the area in that run and the very last one in parenth. is kills/minute.

Second chart. First row is starting exp and lifetime kills before the runs. Subsequent rows contain one run each.

final exp - final lifetime kills - 2r1c (rares+champs) - +exp gain/+lifetime kills gain/time (minutes)

The third chart...yep slightly changed but only by adding theoretical exp/hour gain at the end (45m = 45 million.

EDIT: @ silverfire - I´ve labeled almost all of the columns (hope there are no mistakes but now it should be clear what each value means).

Thanks for the great info. It's interesting how Weeping hollow sucks so bad for XP farming, when you factor in skipping the tough enemies the difference in XP/hour is even greater between it vs fields. I wonder if it's even worth doing.

Just wanted to throw my data out there as well:

Testing methodology as follows:
Turn on unforgiving and wait in town till full fury with battle rage up.
Switch over to brawler and screenshot while teleporting to zone of choice.
Screenshot once back in town to determine ending data.
Deaths/Drops of WotB do not count but are noted down.
Events and Resp Chests are counted as elites as they give NV stacks.
Each data point is n=5

Tested at ~200k DPS, ~250k DPS, ~300k DPS and ~350k DPS (so close to 400k now!) with 18% ias on gear, 85-90% buffed crit chance. XP bonuses were normalized and only the 510% nominal values were taken. Got help from Zylog and Phoenix for some data points. Similar playstyle throughout.

Thanks for the data Chazhang and your helpers. It´s interesting, higher DPS is contraproductive in the Weeping Hollow because of Retching Cadavers. Also, I´d probably still take on Grotesques - as in focus on them while dealing with a trash pack (for those who don´t just Rend and Run). They equal to 2.5 Ravenous Dead and spawn 3 corpse worms each giving 1.5 times the exp of Ravenous Dead (well, maybe it´s just me who likes to see them blow up).

As for Weeping Hollow itself, we kind of got trolled a bit by the developers. After the outcry in PTR feedback forums about the density nerf in that area, they decided "you want high density? OK here you go, but we´ll nerf the exp/loot gain so that the area is only average...most of you won´t notice this as you´ll be blinded by the density" :)

As you can see from my data, the density is indeed top-notch (81/minute). Only the Channels and Realm of Shadow gave me higher values. But the issue is "2573", the average base exp gain per kill. This is mainly due to halving Ravenous Dead to 2250 base exp and they form the majority of the area.

Anyway, I´m pretty happy with A2, it has both the fun factor (constant action) and a solid return so I´ll stick with that for now.

Of course, I´ll be slowly gathering more data from other areas to see how well the acts really compare to each other. So far, it seems only Fields of Misery can keep up with the top4 areas in A2.
