Diablo® III

How does the "Players Near Me" function work?

Does it only show players who are connected through my router or is it by region? If I have "players near me", where would I see it?

The "Players Near Me" feature will call out players on your Local Network (so, same apartment, same university, same office, same PC baang, etc). This is what the notification looks like, for reference. And here's how it will look in the Friends List.

Hope that helps!

I was just thinking the same thing.

Pretty cool, nonetheless. =)

Thanks for the clarification.

I was hoping the players near me would act as a utility to select players in my area.

How does the game client gather this info?

Thanks for clarifying Lylirra.

Seems a pretty useless feature, i mean if there were people in my same network playing Diablo i would have them as friends already...

nice try, fail...

This might be a strange request Lylirra... but as was pointed out

i thought it'd be every person, like in your city

kinda cool

Could we get the option to change the catchment area for this new feature...
Like, say we wanted to find everyone currently playing diablo 3 within 1 mile, or say... 10 miles of us...
That would be awesome!
Not sure if you guys could do it, might be a logistical nightmare to map ip's

Yea it would be nice if works in conjunction to ur region/city/town... instead of just local networks, I agree with this

It does seem kind of a waste to just see those on your Local Network. You usually have your network password protected..so, it would be someone in the same household as you, correct? Not so fun.

I got a notification when I first loaded up the new patch! There was a player near me :)

It was my husband, sitting across from me. Now we joke about it because he's on my friends list, twice.

>.<

Would be cool though, to randomly find out that a neighbor 4 houses down also plays Diablo. It would open up an even bigger community of players to join up with.

I do like the idea though :)

wouldn't be that hard to implement
1. check ip
2. lookup geolocation database
3 .show "people near me" based on players preferences
-local area network (home/office/uni/etc)
-city area
-country

all with nice little flags :)

lol I love how he has two friend requests and mutual friends. All I get are gold spam websites.

do Diablo clients communicate with each other over the local net? Or is it just that they will all lag the same amount and at the same time?

Or is it so you see the local net load and NOT play when there are a lot near you :)

educate me, just what is the point?

Yeah, I thought it was within like 25 miles or something. Seems like kind of a waste of Blizzard's time and very overrated to me...

I find this feature very ironic haha.

Stop adding little gimmicks to your watered down game, and start implementing real change.

Naming your own game
Ladders
PvP (hostility / arena)
Robust chat rooms with character portaits

You know, the things that made Diablo 2 great?
