With people maxing out paragon levels, and getting very well-geared, it seems that there is a shortage of reasons to continue to farm and continue slaying demons. Enter the angelic and demonic blessings.
Prerequisite: Must have cleared hell difficulty, and must have reached level 60.
Background: Having defended heaven against the demonic hordes, the angels have taught the Nephalem warriors to harness the powers of the demons they have slain and the angels they have defended.
System: There will be two windows, each opened with a click button on the respective side (ie. angel has the angels blessing interface, and the demon has the demon's blessing interface).
The player has the ability to turn on one thing to earn experience: either paragon level, demonic blessing or angelic blessing. Paragon levelling would continue to provide the same bonuses.
Each 50 million experience earned in demonic blessing or angelic blessing earns 1 skill point. Each skill would have ten ranks, with rank one costing one skill point, rank two costing 2 etc. Rank 10 would be a mastery of that blessing and would double the value of the bonus.
Demonic Blessing will help with stats and could include things like:
-improved gem values (ie +10%, +20%)
-improved stats (one blessing for int, dex, vit, and str)
-improved attack speed, crowd control, critical hit damage etc.
-once all blessings are maxed in demonic blessing, for 40 skill points, the character would unlock the ability to equip a 3rd ring and for 80 skill points, to equip a second amulet.
Angelic Blessings will improve skills of each character individually, ie monk improves monk skills, and would have a separate blessing for each active skill. Each skill would also have ten ranks. For example, monks thundering fist would have its damage increased each rank, with a larger increase for rank 10. In this tree, once the other skills have been maxed the character will be able to spend 40 skill points to unlock another active skill slot, and then 80 skill points to unlock a fourth passive skill slot.
These are just suggestions for the blessings, but the idea is to allow the player to continue to accumulate meaningful experience and to eventually become godly, even more so than paragon and top-end gear allows currently. I also picked numbers for skill points and experience based on that these blessings are game-changing, more so than paragon and so they difficulty in grinding to get them should reflect that.
I think this would allow for players both experienced and relatively new to further improve their character and provides rewards for continued demon slaying. To max this out would take even longer than the paragon levels, and allows for players to continue playing their favorite characters and reaping rewards beyond gold and gear (which is probably useless to them by that point). The beauty of the system as well, is that if you don't like it, you can just continue to play without using it.
Hmm this is a very good idea i think, but would require adding a new level of difficulty to the game seeing as people would be getting insane amounts of dps/defense. This would be an actual end game, which there currently is not. Also to add to this they could make like a pvp minigame sort of thing where it could be like 5v5 or 8v8 or something and one team (Demons) could only use the demonic blessings during the battle and one team (Angels) could only use angelic blessings during the battle. I'm going to spread this topic around for you as i think it would be a fun way to add an end game to d3.
Thanks for the input,
Yeah it'd be awesome to see something like that minigame, and yeah, maybe just add more to monster power for a quick fix. I just personally like to see some development of my character not just my equipment (may seem strange but don't like being entirely equipment dependent). Ultimately, though, I think that it should take along time, but ultimately, the character should be able to relatively faceroll content, because that's what I think things should be like after you've invested the amount of hours that would be required to max these bonuses out. To be honest, I don't play public games much, and find that the available PVP is pretty lacking. Putting things in like that, HALO sort of multiplayer game concepts would be lots of fun! (Think of playing King of The Hill with a bunch of other Diablo characters! or Team Deathmatch. Or A free for all!) I think it would be neat if they also put in a system that encourage people to participate in these PVP events, such as PVP points which can be redeemed for special potions which enhance stats or equips or gold etc.
