It seems to think the string "= inside square brackets is unauthorized, nefarious HTML, which is ironic since it's their system that is generating it in the first place when you use the quote button.
It's partly that. The system you refer to is what is known as a validation system. It attempts to verify who that post came from. Sometimes it works, oftentimes it does not. When the system cannot validate the quote properly, it will truncate the post ID used to display the name and you'll just get a generic type quote. I see this most readily in my posts because a proper quote or a non-MVP by me will be either brown (with name), or blue (with name). When the system fails it looks like I'm quoting another MVP, which I really dislike as it makes the text a bit more annoying to read sometimes when I'm quoting multiple people.
Edit: As you may notice with this quote I can't quote you directly either via the text selection feature or the direct quote. It fails to validate your name via the post ID and so it looks like I'm quoting another MVP. Very frustrating indeed.
There must be many possible scenarios as to why its so hard to fix anything at Blizzard:
Yeah I noticed that they fixed it. Do not know what the problem was though.
Threats of violence. We take these seriously and will alert the proper authorities.
Posts containing personal information about other players. This includes physical addresses, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, and inappropriate photos and/or videos.
Harassing or discriminatory language. This will not be tolerated.
