PvP could be balanced much more easily, if not for additional damage mitigation and bonus modifiers, such as +bonus damage to elites and elite damage% reduction, being included in PvP. Being able to stack an extra 7%-21% total damage reduction in brawling allows many players to be almost unkillable, even if their other defensive stats are not perfect.
elite damage modifiers should either be removed from affecting PvP, or they should ONLY negate critical hit damage, or boost critical hit damage, to be balanced.
If elite damage % is modified this way, it would be much easier to balance the overall PvP damage mitigation for future balancing in more advanced game modes. The 1.10 patch which should bring about more PvP options needs to take this into consideration. If elite damage items are balanced, overall player damage mitigation in PvP could be raised closer to 50% rather than 30%, and critical hits could also be reduced in PvP, maybe by 30-50% of total damage, allowing for more balanced "duels". Additionally, DOTS should be changed to either never be capable of Critical strike, or have a reduced chance to critical strike each tick, in much the same way proc coefficients are used to balanced other procs.
Blizz may be balancing PvP modes behind the scenes, but it would be nice to hear a little about that. It's time changes were made to brawling to improve upon future potential PvP options. Rather than everyone who participates in current Brawling simply give up on any form of balanced PvP existing in D3, we should at least try to give ideas as to how we can balance it little by little each patch, so more people can enjoy it. I'm not a math expert, but I am certain that reducing the current damage dealt to players a bit more, and also limiting the maximum damage reduction possible in the current game will improve PvP in the end.
We already have limited gear choices in this game, but having elite bonus damage count against players has further reduced our gear choices for PvP. I understand the motivation behind this decision, there will be market demand for neglected items if a purpose is designated for them. The previously underused items, with elite bonus damage, now have an essential role in the game so more are sold on the ah. This positive economic outcome has created negative game play outcomes.
Different classes use different gear usually based on primary stat or class specific bonuses. For example, typical WD or wiz uses zuni or tal's, typical barb uses IK's, typical DH uses nat's and typical monks use inna's. When players do research and learn the game's mechanics, they switch to good rares and legendaries, instead of exclusively using the cookie cutter sets. This is when you start to see variety in builds, such as proctor doctor, and innovation becomes a useful skill in the game. Games lose replay value when choices are standardized and innovation is not possible.
That is problem with elite damage bonuses counting towards players, it makes innovation not possible. This is because your slots will be occupied by needed gear so that you can kill others and become resistant to being killed. All classes have the same mandatory gear: full BT set, SoJ and litany for rings. This leaves hands, helm, and amulet as the only variable slots open for designing a build for any class. Over time, the game becomes boring because innovations are limited due to mandatory gear choices.
None of the bonus elite items are "needed" or "mandatory"
don't you have something better to do than make pointless posts? at least be constructive if you care enough to respond. Brawling and PvP can be fun in certain situations, and if improved upon in the next 2 patches, can really change the game for the better. I don't see how this is whining at all, just people trying to voice positive changes. Maybe you shouldn't whine about others discussing how PvP can be improved.
I am a PvP wizard with 101 k hp and around 800 AR, I have no elite damage reduction bonuses. I die in 1-hit from impale crits when fighting DHs with 90 k dps. I am also 1-shotted from WoL, HoTA, and spirit barrage crits. 1-shotting has nothing to do with piloting skills only stats, so you cannot blame my skills as a player on the fact that I get 1-shotted from every class I fight. Even though it is not mandatory, you need elite damage reduction to not get 1-shotted, even if you have over 100 k hp and good mitigation.

I agree with the OP, both of us have been constructive and our posts on this thread do not qualify as whining. Winning brawls is the end game objective, and will gain more interest as more people become paragon level 100. Since brawling is under development, our posts can potentially influence the system and discussions need to happen for those changes to be made.
