Diablo® III

The 1 hour MP10 Fields of Misery Challenge

I seem to be hitting a wall around 5500. Trying to squeeze out every last bit of DPS I can muster. I think Bloodshed is a nice alternative but I'm not sure where it would top out at. I might try and direct Detox over here see if he can pound things out a little faster. I don't think I'm hitting 9k anytime soon...

So I finally found some time to do this after getting the rubberbanding/lag issue solved. Googled a bit and found a thread on the Diablo 3 forums with some tips on how to make things run smoother and there was one thing in particular that solved it for me. I disabled AVG and voila, no more rubberbanding. It doesn't happen all of the time while AVG is running but if you are experiencing problems with micro stutter and rubberbanding try to temporarily turn of your anti-virus program, it' apparently doesn't work for every one but it worked for me.

While tinkering with my graphics card during all of this I re-discovered 5700x1080 resolution and got a program called widescreen fixer which makes a huge difference in performance compared to running it in full screen windowed mode. You can find the program here: https://www.widescreenfixer.org/

The higher res helps out a bit with seeing more of the lay of the land and mobs that would otherwise be off screen which saves some time for me since my build involves teleporting and quite a bit of mob herding.

Here is a video of how it looks, didn't turn out as well as I had hoped and the lag when recording that high of a resolution made the run less then smooth to say the least but hopefully you can get an idea of the benfits of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndQLXeA_5NQ

Stats for the 60 mins and 30 secs run is as follows:

1. 6998 total kills or 6940 kills per hour and 115,7 kills per minute. (3 elites killed but they were all at the end of the runs so not bothering with the adjusted kills since they don't effect it enough to warrant that imo)

2. 11 runs for an average of 636 kills per run

3. 7 legs found

4. 387,8k fully buffed with 3% CC scoundrel

Hmmm, tried to start the Doom in Wortham quest but I don't get the Old Mill checkpoint. I saw you were starting at that checkpoint without Leah following you, how do you get the checkpoint Chazang? Or anybody else who may know?

The Doom in Wortham is too late. Choose "The Broken Blade". After you get the first piece just port to Fields of Misery and go to where you meet the Scoundrel for the first time. Get the checkpoint there.

I tried it and I can not seem to get the checkpoint without talking to Leah thus getting her as a follower. No clue what I'm doing wrong tbh.

The Doom in Wortham quest does work, but you have to be extremely careful in town as many areas there will set your waypoint back to that. For instance, just north of the waypoint or just in front of your stash. I kept messing up and resetting it, so that's why I use the Talk for Alaric quest instead which is a bit more foolproof.

Yeah, I finally figured out the Doom In Wortham quest. You need to dismiss your Scoundrel before leaving game and getting the checkpoint. After you get the check point you can hire the scoundrel again and still retain the checkpoint at the Old Mill.

@Zylog. Doesn't the Talk to Alaric quest get you Leah as a follower? It's quite imperative for me NOT to have her as a follower since she attracts way too many mobs away from me.

For Doom in Wortham, I draw an imaginary line between where you start off and the town portal beside your stash. I NEVER cross that line so as to not get the checkpoint in town.

I never had to do any fancy dismissing of the scoundrel. I just went to the ruined temple waypoint and walked backwards. Even with my scoundrel I would get the checkpoint.

It's definitely possible to keep this checkpoint for a long time if you try. Yesterday during the 4 hour farming competition I didn't lose it once. The key is that when you're accessing your stash, head towards the town portal and at the last second make a right angle to your stash and repairing using the merchant south west of the town portal.

@Mental

I also really don't like Leah potentially drawing aggro away from me. I also have nothing on my scoundrel equipped and used a skill setup so that he can't slow/daze any mobs for the few times he's up.

Ah, good to know even if my way works, yours is much easier.

Yeah, if you access the stash from the side where the TP is then your good it seems. I tried teleporting past the stash to the Book of Cain but that gives the checkpoint in town so stash items and ID later is the way to go. Or stash them and then get a mule to ID works aswell I guess.

Yeah, I decided to unequip my scoundrel and it seems to work well, first 3 skills I get the ones to the right, no crowd control skills, and last skill I get the one to the left, Hysteria. I believe Hysteria last for the duration even if the scoundrel dies but I'm not eniterly sure. Easily checked though.

So it seems that I've been making a pretty big mistake by taking my career kills value while without leaving my final run of the set. That was resulting in my not counting the kills from my final run, which gave me a lower than expected score.

Additionally, I also worked on my pacing which has helped with my kills/h. I had a few attempts where I slowed to 5 mins/run while trying to maximize my kills per run, but it was resulting in poorer scores. I took a look at how much I could kill by running through the map as quickly as possible with single rends, which was not that far off in terms of kph, then if I added a cleanup rends for the large packs of goatmen that would form up in my wake my kph would go up quite a bit.

I'm still undecided between ravage and lacerate. If I'm just running through with single rends, lacerate is better because of the higher damage, but when I include circling back to finish off large clustered mobs having to rend multiple times to clean it is cumbersome. This could just be a matter of learning the best technique to handle this.

Results:

1. 7573 kph (7907 kills in 1:02:39)
2. 14 runs for an average of 565 kills/run
3. 11 legendaries found (10.5 leg/h)
4. 299k unbuffed, 528k buffed, 666k with brawler

Good job man! I think I might improve my kills per hour aswell, got me a pretty sweet + ET CC Sword and boy does the extra 7 CC make the run smooth :)

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2u6mibp&s=5

I think you got it right with the pacing there Zylog, gonna give it a try. Just start with trying to move as fast as I can and see what it gets me in terms of kills and then adjust from there. It's so !@#$%^- easy to get too meticulous otherwise I think and that is the biggest hurdle to get past. Accepting that some stuff isn't going to die but your faster killing 80-90% and doing it fast then making sure everything dies.

I gave Avoid (streamer), one of the top EU CM Wizard a nudge in this direction... Think he will give this challenge a shot :)

Thanks Det0x. I'd be interested to see how well he does. He seems to be one of the fastest farmers from what I've seen and consistently does quite well in the farming competitions.

During the last farming competition against Todd and Archon I managed to maintain an average of 8927 kills/hr although I had the luxury of using shrines and side dungeons for that day.

The result was a total of 35708 kills in the 4 hours and 43 legendaries which is 3 less than the expected drop rate of 46 given the average of 773 kills/leg from the data I've gathered from several sources farming MP10 fields. The data sample size is quite large and encroaching on 600k lifetime kills now.

I wonder if he's open to a NA vs EU farming competition sometime in the future.

Also I'm curious if you've tried the challenge. I'm really curious as to how far a DW barb can push this number.

I cant talk for Avoid.. Guess he can respond himself when he submit result..

As my gear is optimize for the HotA build, and kinda the opposite for what i want on a ww/nado build (low average damage mainhand, and high on the slow offhand), i don't see much point in trying when i know the result will be sub-par.. :)

A better candidate would be duus89, i can also try to give him a nudge, but iam getting sore shoulders :P

He is swapping some gear around, so he can hit 3.3334 breakpoint..

@avoid try nats for this. Way before this challenge we did it on the wiz forum and nat was the winner. I tried all different variations like gc, zun, etc. And nat was the winner

1 apoc piece
nat set
wicked wind
safe passage
time bomb
diamond skin
electrify
shocking aspect
critical mass
illusionist
blur
I got up to 158 whites a min. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/9164976805?page=3#43

Basically you should retry with nat set, illusionist, blur.

Also apparently this is the best route, http://imgur.com/LeP2Nxg you need the back track from
Doom in Wortham quest.

I know this competition does not have the scavengers den and lost mine. Those zones would only viable for barb imho. I feel warriors in fom drop more then the bats so the white quaility might be lower overall. If future competition include the den / mine someone should do a analysis similar to:

yeah I'm sure you can make gear adjustments, but I'm not gonna go that way, I doubt I can find upgrades relatively cheapl also Illusionist was never really needed, but I'm sure a good crit mempo and good nat set will be superior for this yeah

also Blur is useless, I use glass cannon

I dropped Blur aswell, it isn't necessary if you got enough mitigation and ehp, and swapped it for Evocation which to me seems to be the only passive that might increase your edps. So many useless passives *sigh*

There are a ton of ways to gear to optimize the build for the specific purpose of running FoM, me and Eric went high CC and 10 APOC, it's just one way of doing it and it might not even be the best either.

You do seem to have quite a different style of play compared to me and Eric, more stutter stepping and dragging huge packs of mobs behind you which leads me to believe that your damage output is quite heavily skewed towards Timebomb. You might get more damage out of dropping Storm Armor all together for a damage buff skill like Sparkflint, it's only 12% though so not sure it will make a difference.

Very impressive results you got btw.

I wanted to test out some gear and this seemed like a good start with these conditions.

- Rend crit does more damage then needed, so tried lower str vs gaining crit (tried crit cap of 93%).
- Tyreal Might vs IK - 15% damage to demons vs 60 AR + 10k hp
- IAS 1.57 seems to much for solo play, for coop it's kinda must for me. With the right trade off it should be 20k dps gain vs ww breakpoint.

It's not a perfect test, feeling during a run means all lot, went for elites so long not slow and yellow, many of the elite pacs just follow. Had a few deaths, wanted to be able to kill as much as possible.

Conclusion need more data:

And Tyreal Might's look = gg
