Help with PVP WD

I recently hit paragon 100 and am losing my incentive to farm. I helped a friend get a barb started and was helping him lvl, but he had to take a break for a few weeks. So yesterday I decided to try some PVP. I fooled around with brawling a little bit when it first came out but I have basically no experience with PVP in 1.08. I jumped in with my normal gear (except the soj which i don't normally use) expecting to get owned. To my surprise I actually did quite well. A few DH's and WD's schooled me but I was dominating most others after a little practice.

After a little thought I feel the main thing I am lacking is vitality. I plan to ditch the inna's pants for some rares and possibly change out some topaz for some amethysts. I could also craft some vitality gear and possibly use a shield. Was wondering how much damage I should try to maintain and how much life I should shoot for? Is my build OK or should I change some skills? Any advice is appreciated.

In pvp ehp is far more important than dps. The absolute best pvp wds I've seen only have 150-200k dps, but they have ridiculous ehp. I'm talking +700AR, 4.5k armor, and +150k life. There's no need to fully switch out all your gear just for pvp, but as you've already said, some vit gems and crafts could help a lot. A shield is a good idea as well.

This guy is probably the best pvp wd in the world:

The build in his profile is also clearly pvp. It't not a build I would use, but then again I don't have his gear...

A standard pvp build is this:

WoS, haunt, and jinx are massively OP in pvp so use them liberally. Horrify is also great.

a good strategy I've seen being used in my limited pvp experience is to horrify then shoot them down with WoS as they are running away.

Only doesn't work very well against EHP barbs because they can tank through all that pain.

So the standard build doesn't include bats? I feel like I need Haunt, WoS, Spirit, Walk, and Hex. That leaves 2 slots and I'm choosing between Plague Bats, Frightening Aspect, and Dogs as my best choices.
