Diablo® III

Online play pass code required.

So is Diablo 3 going to be one of those games that require a passcode to play online? Then you would have to pay 10.00 to XBOX LIVE or PSN to play it online if the game was purchased used or lent to you by a friend. Rental of the game would be useless as well with no multiplayer available unless you pay 10.00. I hope we can get an answer quick on this before it snowballs.

Thanks in advance.

I can't find anything online to answer this but in my opinion, as it is not tied into battle.net I think it will come with a code and like you said you will have to buy a code if you rent or buy the game second hand. Would be nice for a blue response though.

Good question. +1

I doubt it. Most of the companies that pioneered that system (EA included) backed off. I think it has to be implemented by the game's publisher, too, so I'd be surprised if Blizzard took the trouble to implement the system for just one game.

No you don't need a play pass to play online.

You do need an Xbox Live gold account for 360($9 a month) or a PSN account(normal not gold so free), but that's a microsoft/sony thing not a Blizzard thing.

I believe "play passes" are actually made by the game's respective publishers. (eg. EA/Origin for BF3, Farcry 3 Ubisoft, MW3 Activision etc). If anybody can answer it will have to be Blizzard.

Unless the green above actually got his answer from Blizz. :D then I am going to say good on Blizz.

Just wanted to confirm that you will not need a play pass to play Diablo III online multiplayer games on the Playstation Network. You'll need an Xbox LIVE Gold account in order to play over Xbox LIVE, though.

Also, the 360 Gold account is only $5 a month if you buy the year.

Just saying...

Please note that this will change if you decide to wait for the PS4 version, because that network will require a monthly fee.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit unfair? The PC version requires no fee, but you have to pay to play the console version?

Your beef is with Microsoft not Blizzard (and in regards to the PS4, Sony).

Blizzard supplies the game, the console manufacturer supplies the online service.

I think Sony stated that any free to play online game will not require ps+ and it is up to the publishers if it will.

Yeah Diablo is not free to play. You pay 60 dollars for it.

Not sure if you knew that :)

Sony has also confirmed via several executives that PSN will be a paid-for service on PS4

just two of the many articles when you google search: ps4 network fee, PS4 will require a monthly fee when you want to play online .

PS:
Almost all console games are free to play online except for the fee to connect to the network in xbox's case and also on PS4 in the future. Free online gaming will disappear with the next gen of consoles.

I don't know where you heard that but Sony plans on keeping PSN free with the PS4. You have the option to upgrade to PS+ if you choose but there is not going to be a monthly fee

Playing online with the PS4 requires PS+ which has a monthly charge. Sony confirmed all online play with the PS4 needs PS+.

Even sent me an email survey last week asking how I feel about the change.

You can still play games locally for free, but all online play you have to pay.

Where I work, this is what we heard as well.

F2P titles do not require a PS+ account on PS4.

Yet, console version gets an offline mode but PC version can't play when the servers are down or having issues. It's a trade off.
