Was bored. Started crafting swords http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/exalted-grand-conquest-sword
Then some daggers and gloves....and back to swords.
Essences (83k for 150M)
Tomes (55k for 47M)
Tears (30k for 21M)
Crafting cost (247M)
I arrived at this:
Possible replies include:
a) Pie, you are an idiot
b) nice craft Pie!
c) nice craft....however, that's about what you could have bought one for on the AH
d) nice craft, but you would have spent less if you had just bought one
e) nice craft, you can flip that for a ton more!
f) not bad, but don't quit your day job.
g) if it was black, and had higher DPS, and had INT, and had higher IAS then it'd be really nice!
That is all...
Can't roll with black damage, LS, IAS, Int, CD, and OS all in one. Can only roll 4 of those since black weapon requires +minmax and +% damage to get high dps.
Otherwise I agree with (f) and agree in principle with (g), but (d) really sums it up best. That's about how much I paid for my current weapon. Appreciate the info though!
Yeah....thought'd I'd do something else for just a little fun. Never been to Vegas...and don't play the lotto, figured this is about as close as it gets! Well, that, and crafting ammys....but i can only do that 50 DE at a time....and crafting swords is kinda endless (until gold runs out!)
I made a few other decent ones along the way. Sold about 50M worth, and a few more on the AH now...so overall investment is closer to 500M.
We all have to keep ourselves amused.....
Besides, you never know.
That next roll.................

you could have saved a lot if you did not buy the crafting materials except for tomes of secrets
( which is really hard collecting if self found).
i myself use my own self found materials to craft, but tend to buy tomes bec. that's what really is lacking.
h) walk over to haedrig and say "you crafted bad and you should feel bad. I'm glad your wife is dead." Unless you had a very early act 1 quest active when this went down. In that case replace the second part with "I'm going to kill your wife."
Breaking even is the next best result in gambling so you did good.
I've been tempted to do this for a while, have done maybe 50 daggers or so on and off, but I need the funds for other things so I never go all in. I managed to save up over 100 DE all at once (ive crafted thousand+ lost count long ago, in groups of 5-75). Gonna try to hit 200 then do 100 ammy + 100 glove and see what happens.
Thanks for the comforting thoughts Comrade.
Not sure I'll do this again. What's really sad is how difficult it is to roll 1000+ DPS. I usually rolled in batches of ~100 over a period of a few weeks. I'd be pretty lucky to get ONE that rolled 1000 DPS per batch. Once I think I might have got 2. Much less, 1000 DPS with OS, LS, AS, CD, etc. So, after about 500 crafts I was leaning toward "A" myself!
I was really imagining that I'd get a few "decent" ones and that the endeavor might pay for itself. But I crafted fewer "decent" ones that I had hoped. But, considering what I could sell this for plus the other sales along the way I guess I did alright. But certainly didn't come out ahead.
Yeah, no joke.
I guess the other thing that it made me realize is how hard it is to craft ammys. I'm not sure how many random roll possibilities that ammy's have vs swords/daggers (probably more possibilities for ammy's). But, if it takes 2000+ tried to craft a decent sword, imagine what you need to do for a good ammy (which is what i'm trying to craft now).
