Diablo® III

Blizzard, is self-found on the way?

(Locked)

So what's the status, Blizzard?

I realise you can't talk much ahead of the expansion announcement, but at least some indicator that you still like the idea of self-found would be nice.

I won't spend a single second more in the same game as the RMAH. I enjoy playing, but I want to feel like what I do matters to some extent. I could play for hours now, but I'll know that I'm just wasting my time as the gear I find will still be considered bad.
Solution: Hardcore.

You're welcome.
Solution: Hardcore.

You're welcome.

If I wanted a mode where I risked losing all my progress from some lag, then I'd ask for it.

This thread is about loot rewards and recognition for hard work.
self found is hard work? having better gear just means you had a little more luck than the next guy. rng is rng and not worth the recognition
Go casino and ask for some recognition for "hard working" and rewards,

Wouldn't that be hilarious?
Kinda sucks that this "hard work" could be attained in 5 minutes if you're lucky enough, or 5 years if you're unlucky enough
Yea, It's called console version....
No need for SF mode!

regardz uncel selffound
People saying self-found isn't hard work are bloody deluded.

The RMAH gets you the best gear available in 1 minute. Self-found doesn't give you the best gear even if you farm for a year.

Yes, once you do get a good drop, that's luck. But being dedicated enough to stick with the farming routine until you've forced luck to be in your favour, that's hard work. That's self-found. That's the real Diablo.

For instance: Anyone with any knowledge of magic find what-so-ever knows that if you balance the low MF that low MP gives, with the low HP its monsters have, then you can force the loot hunt in your favour. So it's not just luck in Diablo, it's also tactics and hard work.

Now, any news Blizzard?

self found kids

Are you high? Are real gamers 'kids' nowadays? Not pro? Not elite? Not hardcore? But kids?

Then what are the RMAH players? Respectful grown-ups with 5 whole dollars on their VISA cards? The bar for being an adult was just lowered immensely.
We don't need recognition.

As for playing self found? I like it when everyone says "hardcore" like that's the end all be all of the game. Sure its exciting, but not something most want to play with self found gear, let alone stuff bought from the AH! lol Eventually I will roll a HC SF one day, but not yet.

You want to do a self found character, start fresh on a different realm. You will have a completely clean slate, nothing can be transferred between realms. Then you can self found yourself to oblivion. Its what I did, when I took up the challenge to play a self found.

But I don't need Blizzard to hold my hand and pat me on the head for it.

Good day!
Self found mode would be an great addition to Diablo 3. It would make playing the game and finding items rewarding again!

If they added a self found mode and tweaked Legendary items to not drop useless stats that would also be welcome. For example say your playing a witch doctor and you found a legendary, make it so the legendary always has intelligence and not strength.

I agree, but self found does not resolve any of the stale mechanics and overall lack of re-playability. Itemization, customization and diversity is what needs to be fixed.

I never said it did. They can work on several issues at once. Self-found won't fix the things you brought up, but those things won't fix the state of the game either, without some form of self-found. The RMAH is like a plague upon Sanctuary, and it infects everything.

That said, I agree with you that those features need an overhaul.

We don't? Do you speak for the entire community?

I want recognition for the hard work I put into building a character. No, I don't think I'm better than anyone else, and I don't want a red carpet rolled out for me simply for playing the game.

But the lack of self-found recognition completely undermines the entire point of loot hunting, and therefore the point of the entire game. Right now, we are hamsters in a treadmill. Unlike World of Warcraft, Diablo 3 doesn't even attempt to hide the fact. Even the developers admit that the AH sucks for the game.

And again, I don't want Blizzard to pat me on the head, either. I want to feel good on my own about the stuff I do in the game. But that is very difficult knowing that my stuff is actually crap compared to the RMAH gear. It's like giving hardcore raiders in WoW blue level 60 gear, while LFR casuals get only godly epics.

I had thought this at 1st too. Then I found out that you can load your Hero on to a USB which means that the console version will most likely be the most hacked version of all.

All someone would have to do is edit the Hero on the pc using a hero editor and load it to the USB. All of a sudden they are max level with the best loot, and possibly hacked to run faster, cast faster and so on...

We don't? Do you speak for the entire community?

You're right, that was being a bit presumptuous

I don't think it undermines the point of it at all. I think it only undermines those that really care about it, or feel the need to have something that says "look I'm a true selfi"

Basically, its about whether self found players can play honestly and be truthful about actually finding their gear, or however they determine their own playing style. Its not something that Bliz can just come in and say "here is self found mode". Cause you know what will happen. QQing left and right. Whatever mode they decide (if they do and I hope they don't) it will still be frowned and picked apart.

Every change they make gets torn apart. Why? Cause they will never be able to make all of you happy. Period.

Anyway, I play normal characters here on the US servers. I started playing a SF character on the Europe server a few weeks ago (linked above) and I enjoy it, even if its rather difficult. But then I'm making it difficult on myself to play it. And its fun and I don't need Blizzard to help me play it my way. lol

No, they're bloody right. You can already play self found if you want. You just want a badge because the garbage you find just isn't good enough to allow you to flex your epeen successfully without people laughing at you. Playing a slot machine for extended periods of time isn't hard work.

Excluding yourself from the trading aspect of the game doesn't make you pro, elite, or hardcore. It just makes your progression slower by applying a self-imposed handicap, that's all. I agree, though, calling self finders "kids" is just some lame ad hominem attack you should pay no attention to.

I think a self found mode would help make the multiplayer part of the game more fun as well. Its not exactly fun to join a public game just to find everyone has paid for gear that demolishes everything before you even have a chance to cast a spell.

In a self found mode people would be more encouraged to help each other out. Maybe if I found something cool that I couldn't use I would offer it to the people im playing with, and because its all self found they might actually be upgrades for them. It could help encourage players to work together and trade more instead of using the AH.
