Diablo® III

Deckard Cain was the last living Horadrim

"But hey who cares about the story, let's just retcon a few more things like we did with Aidan and his brother, oh and bring old names like we did with Skeleton King and The Butcher, let's do that to our new expansion and enforce even more nostalgia. That totally worked with D3, let's do this again."

Tyrael trying to burry the soulstone again is the metaphor for Blizzard trying to fix things with the expansion.

Also, inb4 Crusader is in fact a Horadrim.

Tyrael formed the original Horadrim.

Tyrael is now a mortal angel, living amongst the humans in Sanctuary.

Common sense says Tyrael will train new Horadrim to aid this new generation of heroes.

Common sense? Well there goes this thread.

Also, as for the crusader being a horadrim, I think I would prefer him to be a split from the Zakarum church, like the Paladin was in D2. They did mention Zakarum in some of the background details in the gameplay videos, so that would be cool.

We don't know how much time has passed since the end of D3. Tyrael could have enough time to rebuild the order. As far as hiding the stone, it's possibly the best way to keep Demon Lords at bay, unfortunately (again) it didn't work out well, Malthael probably spied on him and found about the location.

Didn't the Crusader's bio say he was a Zakarum? Need to double check that now...

What choice is there? You kill the prime evils, they're born again in hell, after a time. You embed the soulstone into a person, they eventually get corrupted. If you trap them and hide the stone, then you remove their influence indefinitely. There doesn't seem to be a better alternative.

It actually makes quite sense for Tyrael to hire some new Horadrim. That's not such a story-breaking thing.

I'd expect the Wisdom to know better. *points to other dimensions*

Well, neither was introducing Aidan. It was all logical and stuff.

Yes. Its my understanding that the Crusaders are the Elite paladins.

The wisdom thing is new to him so he is still getting the hang of it. =p

Plus he isnt an angel anymore so it might be a tad difficult to go to places like he used to.

The original Horadrim are just guys Tyreal hired to run his errands. Since he lives on Sanctuary now he can just hire more. Or, as I shall repeatedly say, whenever you see a plothole in a fantasy setting:

A Wizard Did It.

A character having a brother would only be a retcon if previously stated he had no brothers otherwise it just went unmentioned before

Horadrim is just a name

Britain still has a parliament because we built a new one after hitler bombed it and gave it the same name

That's called fanwank.

"To fill in plot holes or explain away lapses in continuity in fictional works by coming up with (often convoluted) explanations of how it could have happened."

It's the simplest answer, actually.

Convoluted would be like..."Oh, Deckard Cain enchanted his soul with a spell so that when he died, the dead Horadrim would rise again."

He should ask other mortals who seem to be more clever than him; check Kulle story bro

except that it had been stated so

Horadrim is just a name

Indeed that's what it just is now.

As opposed to before where it was.... what? It was only ever a collection of mortals gathered by Tyrael.

"brother" can mean more than literally biological sibling. Malthael and Tyrael were both Archangels on the Angeris council. calling him "brother" is in no way incorrect.

The killed Cain and the Diablo storyline died. It's all over. Blizzard nailed it.

Wait, what? Are we talking about the same thing?
Are you implying Aidan and Albrecht were not brothers? D3 says they were both Leoric's sons.
Meanwhile D1 says Albrecht was the only son.
I got lost on what point you were trying to make.
