im pretty new to the wizard, just hit 60 with her about three days ago, but i've already spent a lot of hours on her, because wiz is a lot of fun. i heard from a friend about meteor melting mobs and i thought i'd try it. i had a real blast with it! get it? Blast.
so to the point, do you guys have any advice for me on being more effective with it in terms of my skill selection? im pretty broke atm, so i cant afford better gear. skill selection would be about all i can improve on if there is any improvements to be made.
i've been switching between lightning and energy armor a bit. i like lightning with shocking aspect for clearing out mp5 and lower quickly, and i like energy armor with prismatic when i do 6 or higher. i cant really go any higher than mp8 and my mp8 clears are really slow, so i tend to stay lower.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Meteor! ^_^
So when you can, I'd definitely picked up three sources of APoC. That'll definitely improve Meteor's spammability, and you can rely less on Wicked Wind. I would raise your crit chance to 50+%cc too when you can, get 1-2 more sources of LoH (800+ total), and more resist/armor. You might also consider LifeSteal on your gear, but it's tough if you want to keep Chantodo's Will for keeping up your attack speed.
As for skills, Living Lightning is a viable alternative to Wicked Wind. Though at your attack speed, I think Wicked Wind is probably better choice. I'd pickup Deep Freeze over Bone Chill, since the +15%cc will help a lot with spamming Meteor when targets are sparse. Since you're only at 20APoC, you might also try out Prism for reducing the cost of Meteor, or if you're feeling comfortable Diamond Shards (for more procs and damage). If you're feeling starved for AP right now, Unleashed is a decent choice in place of Chain Reaction. I'd explore what works best for your setup, and you can gradually switch skills over to more damaging ones as you get better gear (ie Chain Reaction, Diamond Shards, Shocking Aspect, etc). Other good passives are Conflagration and Evocation. And since your sustain (ie LoH and LifeSteal) is pretty low, you might consider Magic Weapon (Blood Magic) over Explosive Blast or Shocking Aspect as a short-term solution. It'll definitely lower your effective DPS output, but you should find your survability is better.
As for Meteor skills, I'd switch between Molten Impact, Meteor Shower, and Liquefy. Molten Impact should probably be your de facto standard for general farming, while Meteor Shower should be if you're wanting to melt mobs and Liquefy is best for farming elites/ubers. Liquefy is the most spammable on elites, and you can get a competitive permafreeze going with Evocation/50+%cc/2.5+aps. I'd try all three runes to get a sense which one you like the best, and keep alternating between them as you improve your gear (as you'll notice some runes will perform better as you improve your cc and APoC).
uhm to see the difference apoc makes u can also try out an oculus source as those are much cheaper than chant forces with apoc
u do lose the elite dmg reduction bonus and some ias tho, but youll be able to see how the build runs at 30apoc
