Diablo® III

console loot system = PC loot 2.0?

I see everyone on streams and elsewhere saying the console has loot 2.0

I don't recall blizzard ever saying this is the loot system we on PC will be getting. Can i get a link if a blizzard employee or rep ever said that? Or can i have confirmation that the console loot system is completely different from the upcoming patch's system?

Its definitely not. Loot 2.0 will include more legendaries up to lv 70. Its impossible they incorporated Loot 2.0 into console version. They just tweaked the current loot system on PC for removing AH.

It's not 2.0

The stats are higher than what we usually see on PC because all of the good gear is in the AH. That leaves only the crappy items to drop.

Loot has been adjusted for consoles and contains elements of loot 2.0 which we also want to implement on PC, including the "less is more" principle and "smart drops". That means you'll find less items in the PS3 and Xbox 360 version than in the PC version, but these items will have better stats. Furthermore there is a higher chance to find items with stats tailored to your class (example: if you're playing a monk, more items with dexterity should drop etc.)
The key words are "elements of Loot 2.0."

From the look of things it is some form of 2.0. In every interview I have watched Josh and the other members of the Dev team have side stepped every question about adding loot 2.0 to the console. II think the simple fact for this is they had a version of 2.0 already added . I think at some point they will add a full 2.0 to the console IE:LvL cap,Mystic and act 5 and the rest of it just so they can get more cash for DLC.

It's not Loot 2.0.

With Loot 2.0 all the legendaries are completely redesigned to include a "build-changing" stat. This is not included on console in any capacity, it's simply the same legendaries able to scale at all levels with bigger numbers.

Not to mention the PC loot 2.0 is expected to also include elemental damage secondary effects, changed mechanics with Thorns etc.

It's what most people are referring to Loot 1.5.

Nah, it's not exactly the same nor is it completely different. Let me explain that further, though, since that's kind of a vague statement.

So, in the console version, items will drop less frequently, but will typically be of higher quality. There's a chance that when a white or gray item drops, that it will be automatically converted to gold too. These changes were made to help manage the flow of gameplay and keep players in the midst of combat (and out of their inventory screens) as much possible. Inventory management is a little more difficult on the console version than it is on the PC, where you have a mouse to quickly navigate through menus, so this was a pretty key tweak for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Crafting materials and costs were adjusted, as well, to accommodate for the fact that trading components isn't as easy on console as it is PC. Similarly, stats on crafted items were boosted to help smooth the leveling curve and ensure that players could reliably find upgrades.

Some of these adjustments are changes we'd like to make to PC, but many of them were inspired by plans we already had for improving itemization as a part of Loot 2.0 (for example, smart drops, Legendary items that can drop at all levels, and the whole "less, but better" strategy). The console team literally took elements of Loot 2.0 and added them to the PS3 and Xbox 360 experience, and then made some additional changes they felt best suited the console environment and playstyle.

Someone already asked in a different thread why we couldn't just get the changes that were added to console implemented for PC on their own right now, rather than waiting for Loot 2.0. That's a fair question and does relate to your original concern, so I've quoted it below (because, hey, why not make a long post longer):

Something to keep in mind is that, not only does Loot 2.0 encompass a larger number of changes than those made for the console version, but it's also intended to complement other system updates that will likely have an affect on the item game, things like skill re-balancing, Paragon 2.0, and the addition of features like Loot Runs and Nephalem Trials (which are still in development, too). While we could implement some things here and there in a very piecemeal fashion, in the end it makes more sense--to us, at least (we understand if you might disagree)--that all the components of Loot 2.0 ship together, since they're so closely connected and are ultimately intended to support and build off one another. This does mean more of a wait, which we know isn't the perfect scenario for a lot of players, but it also means that, when Loot 2.0 does ship, it should be a much more fleshed out and complete experience than if various features were implemented on their own.

Also, since we use staggered development (meaning, the PC and console games more or less have separate teams and development cycles), though, it's possible that one game will receive changes before another. Over time, which game that is may switch back and forth depending on where each is in its development cycle. Even so, PC is the lead platform.

So, again: not completely the same, not completely different. The changes made to console contain elements of Loot 2.0, but the experience isn't identical nor is it as comprehensive (also keep in mind that some tweaks were specific to console and are not currently planned for PC).

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I was already noticing that a lot of the loot buffs had similar consequences but for different reasons so saying that console gets 2.0 already because of "better drops" is not really a good assessment...

Ok, while you take your time for the Loot 2.0 coming soon™, can you implement RMAH in console, and let us (pc players) buy the item from there?

Wow, that took a lot of words to say "Console is basically LOOT 2.0 only NOW". Minor changes for PC will take another SIX MONTHS!!!

Except that's not really what I said. >.>

P.S. - I keep reading your name as "nektar," which makes me want a juice box. Damnit.

Cliffs on what Lylirra said: We don't really care about PC players, we've strung you along this far with vagaries, you suckers can wait a few more months.

in the end it makes more sense--to us, at least (we understand if you might disagree)-

And you guys thought that it made sense to release Diablo 3 on the PC in the state that it was in, so excuse us for not caring about what you guys think "makes sense."

The duping and item creation on console would literally flood the market with insanely broken items. They didn't make plans for an AH on console, so they left more loopholes open for players to mess with their characters (very similar to what players did with Open Battle.net characters on Diablo 2). In order for them to combine PC and console AHs, they would first have to develop an AH for the console, then provide a Closed Battle.net system in which players would get drops they could sell.

All in all, it's not worth it for Blizzard to drop all of that development into a system that could be abused easily.

Lylirra, iis it possible to educate the forums a little more about the intensions of the changes between Console/PC more often so we don't get wall to wall of repetitive threads about information some of us knew about?

The reality is a lot of the Diablo players would not have known the difference hence the multiple threads about console is currently better. Which as of now loot wise it is. (gameplay style is different subject of course).

Factually this makes sense to make thread about these sorts of questions but i would have thought it nice if you kept the general public more up to date about the core difference that happens between the two.

This is exactly what I was taking away from Lylirra's post..... I started to feel my blood boil while reading it
