Ice Armor: Trollzen Storm

Wizard
Does anyone know if Frozen Storm is used anywhere in any builds? I've been toying around with it, mixing it with my alt SS build because I wanted something a little different. But man, it's just so... lackluster. Three seconds isn't nearly long enough and 30% damage seems so pointless. It looks really cool mixed with SS though, so I hope it sees some kind of buff in the future. If anyone has a functional build with Frozen Storm worked in I'd really like to see it.

http://i42.tinypic.com/104m3pz.png looks cool anyway lol
its usually used to proc cold blooded. try using it in a meteor build and you will find it not bad
It's a cheesy way to utilize Cold Blooded without relying on other cold spells (or cold follower), which is kinda ehhh considering how many cold spells a wizard has.

Edit: damnit, Void.

I see. Well, that sucks :( I hope they do something about it in RoS so whole builds can be based off FS. I haven't been following diablofans, but do you guys happen to know if anything on it has been datamined?
I agree with Void that it's a solid choice in Meteor builds. I discussed it a bit in my Meteor Guide: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/10357946014 .

I've never run Meteors before, maybe I'll give it a shot to change things up. I'll look into your guide Tekk.

Frozen Storm is one of the better ways to apply Cold Blooded in builds that don't utilize a cold-based main damage dealer (SS, or Comet I guess) or are able to perma-freeze (SNS). It has a proc coefficient so it can proc APoC, CM, etc. It pays for itself on multiple targets (and then some if there are a lot of them), and then you just stop using it when you get down to a very small number of targets since when they melee you it'll apply Cold Blooded from Ice Armor itself. That, and your Scoundrel's Buriza should have more reliable uptime with lower number of targets. Best used in Disintegrate, Arcane Torrent, Arcane Orb, and some Meteor builds.

It's not very good for SS because you're already applying cold damage with SS all the time. The only thing you're really getting out of it is the extra procs, and then the melee reduction and occasional freeze from the Ice Armor itself. Much better off with other options IMO.

In the expansion, Frozen Storm doesn't have to be recast anymore, so the damage ring is always up as long as the armor is active. This is awesome because no more casting it every 2-3 seconds, and there's only a one time AP cost.
Frozen Storm really specializes in rounding up huge mobs and, thereafter, tearing them to shreds with lots of extra CM procs.

It's not SS, but check out the build on my Thecla wizard that's tuned for Act 1 XP grinding. Basically I run around FoM gathering huge 150+ crowds with FS, then blowing them to smithereens with FS-aided Time Bombs/Electrify. Incredible fun and extremely explosive.

Like Malakai observes (hi, by the way), FS isn't a great fit for SS, but can be a key part for Arcane Mines builds. That extra 0.5 to 1 second delay before mobs converge on you often makes the difference between death and god mode. By the way, it's very, very hard to be killed once an Arcane Mines channel becomes armed. For this application, Frozen Storm is a natural fit.

Frozen Storm is also great for keeping usually high XP chains going, my best being 500+ in Weeping Hollow (managed to get it on video, too). Many wizards prefer kiting with Blizzard for this same purpose, but I find myself more attracted to the kinetic stop-and-go style of melee Frozen Storm.

OMG, that's amazing! Thanks for intel. I feel like the game as we know it will essentially cease to exist.

Hello. Long time no see. Hope all is well.

P.S. - Post more.

That'll be sweet for archon!

Hahaha, guess we'll have to have you two kids settle it the wizard way: slinging lightning, ice, and brimestone around. Just make sure to clean up when you're done. You know how the neighbors hate it when you burn the neighborhood down. ;)

Love Frozen Storm after Tekk showed me the light.

Haven't tried in Disintegrate, though, sounds like my next build.

Have you tried Malakai's Black Ice build? I've never seen huge mobs blow up as fast as that - it's especially crazy when an elite is stuck in the middle and they die in a few seconds.

I use Blizz/Snowbound to round up the mobs simply because I can get ones on edge of the screen easier. Beyond that I think they would be about the same as Blizzard is nice roundup because it slows fast mobs in FoM so they are moving after you slower and gives you some nice life steal while you get a REALLY huge group together.

Nah, they're removing the duration extension in RoS. Archon will be burst DPS, not the 24/7 monster melting madness it is now.
