Fast as I could get. No bonuses, no follower, no shrines.
Cyclone strike costs 2.5 as much spirit as Lashing Tail Kick, and does only 1.22 as much damage. However, the skill with the highest single target damage to spirit ratio is Dashing Strike. You should use that.

Crippling Wave has the highest DPS of all spirit generators.

You activated Mantra of Conviction 5 or 6 seconds before his initial whirlwind. You should have activated it right before, to return double the damage.

So even with the resources you had, you could have killed him much quicker.

Barb is my main. Thanks for the tips.

mostly correct, but fists of thunder is the highest single target dps in the beta due to it's much faster attack speed. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/3811455189

Keeping exploding palm up on him was also a smart move, as over 3 seconds it applies 195% weapon damage as opposed to the normal 100% from the attack.

Also, while dashing strike may be the most damage per spirit spent, it is also a really slow spirit dump. the time you spend casting dashing 10+ times to blow your spirit, you could have already dumped it all with lashing tail kick and been building it back up again with your generators for what will probably amount to much more Damage per second over damage per spirit. The only time using dashing strike as a primary attack makes sense is maybe in pvp when you have a 2 handed weapon and just can't stay on something for long enough to hit it with your harder things, but even then once you exhaust them of their movement abilities it makes more sense to put your spirit elsewhere.
