High Latency Even Versus Only AI Hey guys, this is my first time posting on Bnet, so my apologies if I'm failing to adhere to some sort of established etiquette. That said, here's the problem: Time-zone: EST, North America Maps: Blistering Sands and Agria Valley Problem: For the past two weeks, I've been experiencing pretty high latency but only in strange parts of BNet, (for instance, pulling up my profile, and logging in are fine, but it takes a long time to load the list of maps, and add an AI player). Once the game begins (even 1 v 1 AI), I experience extremely high latency whereby before I can even order my workers to the mineral line, I get a Waiting for Player pop-up. It sporadically goes back to being playable for a few seconds, and then becomes laggy once again. If one of these laggy patches lasts too long, I get a 'Waiting for Server [Surrender]' dialog box. Potentially Important Information: I am on a college network; however, I have friends who say they can play on the network with no problems. Here is my trace route: Tracing route to us.logon.battle.net [12.129.206.130] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms Vlan259.ptx-dual-r1.net.umd.edu [129.2.255.221] 2 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms Gi3-9.css-core-r1.net.umd.edu [128.8.0.25] 3 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms Gi3-2.css-fw-r1.net.umd.edu [128.8.0.82] 4 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 128.8.23.2 5 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 128.8.23.9 6 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms Gi2-1.css-max-r1.net.umd.edu [128.8.0.234] 7 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms clpk-umd-isp.maxgigapop.net [206.196.177.154] 8 2 ms 2 ms 1 ms dca-edge-18.inet.qwest.net [65.120.78.45] 9 4 ms 4 ms 17 ms dcp-brdr-03.inet.qwest.net [205.171.251.110] 10 4 ms 4 ms 5 ms 192.205.32.29 11 70 ms 70 ms 71 ms cr2.wswdc.ip.att.net [12.122.220.250] 12 72 ms 71 ms 71 ms cr1.cgcil.ip.att.net [12.122.18.21] 13 70 ms 69 ms 70 ms cr2.dvmco.ip.att.net [12.122.31.85] 14 70 ms 71 ms 71 ms cr1.slkut.ip.att.net [12.122.30.25] 15 70 ms 70 ms 70 ms cr2.la2ca.ip.att.net [12.122.30.30] 16 70 ms 70 ms 70 ms cr84.la2ca.ip.att.net [12.123.30.249] 17 68 ms 69 ms 69 ms gar5.la2ca.ip.att.net [12.122.129.25] 18 69 ms 70 ms 70 ms 12.122.255.74 19 70 ms 70 ms 69 ms mdf001c7613r0003-gig-10-1.lax1.attens.net [12.129.193.242] 20 * * 12.129.211.34 reports: Destination net unreachable. Can't start blizz launcher, more inside I've been having several problems with Starcraft 2, the blizzard launcher, and the blizzard downloader during the past few weeks. First, one day I was unable to launch SC2. I double-clicked the icon and nothing happened. I tried a few other things, like the blizzard repair utility, and nothing worked. Finally, I tried to "run as" and it worked, even though I told it to run as the current user. However, the "run as" trick only works if I have check-marked the box that says "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" Once I was able to get SC2 up and running, I immediately noticed that my email had not been saved, so I had to re-enter that, and then my password as though it was the first time I was opening the game. When I logged in, my graphics settings had been reset. I had to manually change them to my preferred settings. Each time I opened the game, I had to go through this process. Although doable, it caused me to play less and less because of how much of a hassle it was. As you all know, the new patch was made live today. Excited about this, I tried my usual trick to open SC2, anticipating more problems. I was correct. The blizzard updater opens, the loading screen appears, and then a dialog box appears telling me "The application couldn't be executed for some reason. Please close all other applications and try again." After I got over my amusement at the unofficial excuse "for some reason", I tried a couple more times to confirm and then ran the blizzard repair utility. Nothing. Fed up with all this crap the program was giving me, I did an uninstall/reinstall without deleting my saved game data and replays. The problem persisted. I did a repair, and the repair said that my install was successfully repaired. The problem persists in the exact same manner. I cannot download the new patch. I cannot play the game. I assume this is a problem on my end, but I can't seem to find out what it is. I can still connect to the internet. I am currently running my anti-spyware, anti-virus, and anti-malware utilities, but I do not expect to find anything. I go to the same 10-15 sites every day. My online activity seldom changes, and I have Avast! antivirus on-access protection on 24/7 just in case. Any ideas? ZAN0

problems connecting to battle.net after patch okay so i tried to download patch 1.2 on my desktop this morning and it kept giving me an error message before downloading the patch that said "Tracker is not responding." so then i tried to open up all the ports and disabling firewall and all the stuff from the forums and none of that stuff fixed it, so then i started my desktop up in safe mode with networking and the patch 1.2 downloaded successfully. so i rebooted normally and started sc2 up but now its awaiting a response from battle.net the servers may be down or your internet connection might be down. any help? Known Issues - Patch 1.2.0 (updated 1/22/11) Here are some of the known issues currently affecting patch 1.2.0 (pulled from http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/1869216989): (Note: This is not an exhaustive list and should be updated as issues come in) • Spawn Creep Tumor from a Creep Tumor cannot be customized We are aware that the Creep Tumor does not appear in the Zerg tab of the Custom Hotkeys dialog. We're working towards a solution and are sorry for the inconvenience. • Cloaked flying units attacking through fog of war will show up momentarily We are working on an issue where cloaked flying units will appear through the fog of war as they attack a target, even when they are not detected. • The Join Game page is not immediately scrollable We're aware of an issue with the Join Game page not being movable until the last map is selected and are working towards a solution. • Seeker Missile does not always strike a Baneling just after it finishes hatching It is possible to fire the Raven’s Seeker missile at a Zergling as it evolves into a Baneling in such a way that the Baneling can hatch and avoid the missile’s strike. We’re evaluating the targeting mechanic and working on a solution. • The Game Invite dialog for Join a Game does not display Category and Mode We are aware of an issue where Category and Mode are blank when inviting people to Join a Game. We’re working towards a solution. • Vespene Geysers that are taken by your opponent sometimes flash on the minimap Occasionally captured geysers will blink to appear unclaimed on the mini-map, we're aware of the issue and are investigating the cause. • (MAC) A key can become stuck if the game client window is minimized while a key is being held down. We are working on an issue where keys can be stuck "pressed" on a Macintosh version of the game client if you hold the key, minimize the client, and return to the client after letting go of the key. We're working towards a solution and are sorry for the inconvenience. • Absence of Foliage can be used as an indicator of starting location on some maps. We are aware of an issue involving Zerg creep and foliage through the fog of war on some maps. We're working on the situation and will have a resolution as soon as possible. • General ladder points issues. We are currently investigating several reports of points and ladder rankings not appearing to be accurate. Sadly I have no time line to offer for resolution or further comment but know that we are looking into the matter. Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. ________________________________________________ Account and Technical Services || Tues - Sat 645 - 1545 PST Not seeing a resolution on the forums? Upon login, crashes to desktop The game worked 100% fine on my Vista install. Last night I formatted my hard drive and installed Windows 7. All drivers are up to date, all Windows updates are in place. My firewall (Comodo) knows to let SC2 connect to the internet. SC2 patches up just fine. I get to the login screen, and type in my email address. I hit connect, and immediately upon doing so, SC2 crashes very quickly and dumps me back to my desktop. Any ideas? eeniebear2

Patching troubles Whenever I try to run the patcher, it keeps getting stuck at 89%, something about writing a file called "RaynorMarine.m3" or something. It'll just hang there for a bit and eventually my computer will freeze and I'll have to do a hard reboot. Any idea what the problem here is? Hannibal5

Frustrated with Random DCs! No waiting for server, internet still up, then just "you have been dropped" it's annoying when I'm playing league matches because each one is a loss. Happened at least 30 times now in past week. ANNOYING! Bluntman2

I downloaded the latest patch, and now I cant start up starcraft II. Possible shellcode due to buffer overload? What does that mean? I needed to contact my vendor for a fix. Shmatar7

Reading what is said in the faq and various other posts, this is normal and working properly as the final hop is a blizzard server. Next it is suggested that We try telnet'ing to see if my Ip matches what the blizz server is saying. Telneting the logon server gives me a matching IP address to what my IP actually is. My next step was to make sure ports were open. So I downloaded the port checker from portforward.com and all the required ports and about 60-70 additional ports are open as I have open every port that has ever been mentioned near a blizzard game. My next step was to uninstall my security software (Microsoft security essentials) and disable both the windows firewall, and the firewall on my router. I've cleared the cache in IE, reset it, and toggled the automatically detect settings box in internet option in either configuration(was off, tried on, now left off.) In addition, I've perfomed winsock resets, and ipconfig /flushdns and power cycled all of my equipment. If there is any further suggestions, things I can try, please let me know. Wallstreet9
