Dec 6, 2011 Mechanical keyboard Help! Okay, so im about to buy a mechanical keyboard (currently, using this, http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-PZ30AU-Eclipse-Keyboard/dp/B0007TJ7TE) And i have a few options, and dont really understand much about keyboards, so any advice would be nice. So, i can get a blackwidow for about 60$ via the military. Ive heard they are built very poorly, so im leaning AWAY from this. Also dont like the F keys being moved to the right. BUT, it is my cheapest option. These use MX cherry blue Then i have the two "biggest" contenders. A) Steelseries G6v2. It is 95$ after shipping, and can use 6 keys at once w/usb (i dont have a ps2 port on my desktop sadly) The keys come off easily, but idra uses this, and some people SWEAR by steelseries (i love my kinzu :p) But ive heard the keys arent held on too tightly? There are no bells and whistles, its a straight up keyboard. MX cherry black (no audible/tactile feedback) B) The TTEsports Thermaltake MEKA (not the g1) This is 80$ after shipping, w/military discount. It SEEMINGLY is built like a tank (watched a video review comparing like 5x keyboards, he did the g1, though, but the MEKA is the same thing just compacted.) There are no bells and whistles, and it handles up to 15 keys at once. Again, MX cherry black keys. --IT IS COMPACT. There is no gap between the numpad and the standard keys. The ? is flipped w/shift, and the windows keys are gone. Backspace is slightly smaller. I dont really have a problem with this, i can learn to use the ?, and whatnot, but is the windows key being gone really bad? :( Now, to the questions 1a) I am buying a keyboard to (hopefully) help improve my apm SLIGHTLY on the keyboard end. If im, say, spamming infested terrans, i hold down the hotkey for t he spell, and click. However, i click faster than my keyboard can repeat the command :( Would this help? Would there be any improvement at all in apm/control? 1b) My left hand gets a bit tired after using my current keyboard for LONG periods of time. The keyboard is like 5 years old, got it from a friend, and its a bit worn down/sticky at times. Would getting mechanical make it less wear-and-tear on my hands? 2) Which key type is the best? I know blues have audible and tactile feedback when u cross the threshold, so u know youve gone far enough, but is this needed? I would assume most gamers just hit the key down all the way anyway. 3) Which do you suggest i get? Money IS a problem :/ But not THAT much. I mean, i can GET them all, but spending less is nice lolMalpractice11 Dec 6, 2011
Dec 6, 2011 Mousepad help :p So, i recently bought a mechanical keyboard (ty tl <3) And, now, the 2nd to last thing i need is a mousepad. I currently use steelseries xai laser mouse, and steelseries recommends the 7hd/9hd, due to it being built specifically for my mouse. But in reading reviews, its really no diff than any other pad? So, as im TERRIBLE at this stuff, would it make a difference to drop the extra 20$ on these pads? Or should i get just a normal pad? (I.e. Rocketfish gaming mousepad from bestbuy, half the price, however SOME (a small number on BB) say it has hiccups for the mouse sometimes, and moves a lil) I would rather spend 20 than 40, naturally, but have no idea what surface i should go for, or if theres really a difference or not. Currently i play on my desk without a pad, which works decent enough without hitching, but i figure a mousepad will improve from that. Any suggestions for a good + cheap mousepad? Secondly, What DPI do people play at? i use 3k DPI sensitivity >.>Malpractice4 Dec 6, 2011

Dec 5, 2011 Need help with XFX Radeon HD 6770 So i just bought an XFX Radeon HD 6770 graphics card last week. I physically installed it into my computer but when I try to download the driver that came with the card, my computer gives the message: "We were unable to detect an XFX product at this time. We recommend to click Cancel, restart your computer and try again. If the problem persists, click Ok to continue installing the drivers from the disk". After restarting and trying again (like the prompt suggested) many times, the same message still occurs. So I clicked OK, and after the language selection page, any part that I click comes up with the following prompt: "Please check www.xfxforce.com for the optimized driver". If anyone could help me with this problem that would be great. From what I've read online so far, it seems that my computer may not have a powerful enough power source, but that's just my guess. I am not very technology savy and would greatly appreciate you guys' help. *On a side note, the Driver CD Install Guide that came with the card recommended me to uninstall my current graphics/display driver. Since I did so, my computer has been a bit glitchy and I was hoping I could fix this as well.* My system specs are: Graphics Card (this should be registered as XFX Radeon HD 6770): NVIDIA GeForce 9100 DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC BIOS: BIOS Date: 11/12/09 14:45:05 Ver: 5.13 Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 820 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 11Wasabi16 Dec 5, 2011

Dec 4, 2011 Monitor Suggestions This is my graphic spec: i5-2500k Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 8GB RAM I'm torn between going TN or getting this IPS (or another if anyone else has IPS recommendations) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236122 My budget is around $275 or less, I just want something that is going to have great color, bright & vibrant, and have a clear picture. At first I wanted a 24 or 25", but I feel like I can settle with a 23" if the picture quality and the speed is superb enough. I can't afford a good 27+" from what I can tell, so I would rather have a higher quality 23-25". I play SC2, D3 eventually, and other RPG-type games. I may invest in playing BF3 but that is probably as far as I will go in FPS. I don't want a bad FPS experience if I choose to play them down the road since this is a new build. I plan on occasionally hooking up my Xbox 360 to this monitor. Any suggestions?Jester4 Dec 4, 2011

Nov 30, 2011 First Custom Gaming Rig - On Budget, Advice? Introduction: As the title states this is my first custom PC, ever. I am a complete novice with this sort of stuff and everything I've gathered so far is purely from self-research, so chances are I could have some glaring holes in my build. Goal of the build: To play games such as SC2, D3, GW2 on max settings on 1920x1080. I know two of those games are not released yet so no promises on those but I mentioned them to give you an idea of what I want. I would like a motherboard that will last me awhile and something I can upgrade with in the next few years. I may dive in BF3, which I hear is the most graphically intensive game right now, I would like to be able to play that on medium-high settings. I'm not a big FPS gamer so it really is not as much of a big deal to me as SC2 and D3 would be. Nov 30, 2011 Since there's been a lot of questions... I figured maybe we could just have one thread for the cheapest available laptop and/or desktop (both pre-built and custom), that could play Starcraft 2 on max settings. Since "max settings" can be a bit ambiguous here's what I'm going to do. Build 1 will be for 40+ fps in 1920x1080 resolution on Extreme in a typical 1v1. Build 2 will be fore 40+ fps in 1920x1080 resolution on Extreme in a 4v4, where populations are maxed. I of course could use some help finding these. Especially prebuilt computers. Nov 26, 2011 Blizzard DOTA First off, I'd like to state that there needs to be a dedicated forum section to Blizzard DOTA in the very near future before Beta/Release for information/discussion purposes. Second, this thread is purely my ideas/input, not to be taken too seriously, but IMO should be considered. Now, before the actual information, I'd like to say, I played a bit of DOTA 1, maybe 2-4 games, so I don't know much about it. All I really know about the original was that it was created by non-Blizzard programmers, and that it was Sentinels vs Scourge. I've play quite a few games of Storm of the Imperial Sanctum however (Public created SC2 Dota). I've played every character, tried every item, etc. etc. Also note that if BD is near the list. that means it's a new idea created for Blizzard Dota, by Blizzard 1: Towers are too easily destroyed by creeps alone. 2: BD: Killing bosses, and its reward 3: BD: Mounts/Mounted Speed 4: BD: "Hero Ammunition" on Towers 5: BD: Neutral Creeps, and their rewards 6: BD: "Siege Class" and its repercussions 7: Owning WoL/HotS compared to Starter Edition 8: Ladder Ranking/MMS-MMR 9: Stat Scaling, Damage Scaling, Armor Rating, ETC. 10: BD: Mercenary Camps 11: Miscellaneous Now, that the basic things I'd like to go over are stated, I'll go into more detail for each one. 1: As #1 states, towers are too easily destroyed over time by creeps, even when heroes aren't helping. I believe that towers should gain an extra attack. This attack would be melee range, and would do damage to everything surrounding the tower. This would provide Tower destruction as more Hero based, rather than Hero+Creep. It would be pretty simple, allowing for its main single-target attack to stay/work with it, rather than taking over its role completely. The melee attack would not work on Heroes, and would require the units to be touching the tower. The Single-Target and Melee-AoE would not share cooldowns. Now, this has a high hit-miss probability, even in my own opinion. It's just an idea that I think would make the game better, in theory. 2: BD: As #2 states, Bosses give a different reward than they do in say SotIS and DotA2. In case you didn't know, whenever you kill a boss, the boss will be "so impressed" that it will fight for/with you for a certain duration. The bosses are able to outrange Towers, and have a very high amount of HP, making them invaluable, and will make Boss-rushing a very strong strategy when using the correct Heroes. Now, I don't really know of a balanced way to keep this around, but at the same time, seems like an insanely awesome feature if balanced. Blizzard has already came up with a solution to this ‘could-be’ problem, by making it so the bosses, even when Tag-teamed, are very resilient and have very high AoE damage. 3: BD: Mounts and mount speeds, are something that will require extensive balancing to correctly differentiate mounts and "town portals". Now, I think it’s a brilliant idea, however, if mounts are too fast, it will eliminate the need to spend any money on Town Portals for defense/Hero aggression. While if too slow, it will be an unused mechanic seeing as how you can run/TP to wherever you need to go. Will be interesting to see how Blizzard plays this out. 4: BD: Hero Ammunition, as I like to call, it is a cool idea, making it so Team-based aggression/play will be much more popular rather than, 1 in mid/1 on bottom/1 on top/2 assaulting heroes. From what I understood from Blizzard’s description, Towers will have limited energy in which they attack with. Now I’m not sure if this energy pertains to Towers vs Heroes, or Towers vs Everything, but it seems that this will encourage 1 lane rushing with all your teammates to end the game quickly. As Blizzard has stated, this is in hopes to increase Team play and to decrease Tower-Hugging in early game. I think it will do a very good job at that, but will need a slight revamp to make it viable in the mid-late game scenarios. 5: BD: Neutral Creeps, and their rewards. Blizzard has designed a different way of dealing with Neutral Creeps than say DotA2, which is in production by Valve. Instead of allowing the neutral creeps to fight with the Hero, or have a specific buff given to the Hero after killing the Creeps, Blizzard has added what they call “Power Nodes”. These Power Nodes are essentially areas guarded by a specific mob, that when you defeat, gives you control over it. After controlling these Nodes, you then summon more Creeps in each lane. (I believe 1 Melee/1 Ranged per lane) Without the help of these ‘Mercenaries’ or heroes, the lanes are very evenly balanced, but with the mercenaries, and or heroes, the lanes will fall increasingly quickly. Blizzard has stated that they wish for these areas to be points of high aggression/defense of each team, and will hopefully provide an area in which team battles can occur without having a defenders/attackers advantage. The main problem I see with this change is Map Control. Controlling these areas will provide a strategic area to head to as quickly as possible, and will then provide the team with an advantage throughout the game. Once you control the camp, I see it as increasingly hard to take over the camp as the game progresses, making this a very volatile feature. 6: BD: "Siege Class" and its repercussions. The siege class, albeit a cool idea, is not something that IMO should exist in this style of game. With their ability to outrange Towers, do AoE damage, summon additional creeps (Witch Doctor), and more, I believe that many people will abuse this class to a point in which nearly everyone will play as them. Seeing as how Blizzard is more intelligent than that, I know that some things will directly counter them. But, I will always be weary, and expecting of a nerf… 7/8: WoL/HotS/Starter, and MMR/Ladder. I don’t have much to say about these incorporations, I believe that since Blizzard is planning on making BD a free game, that it’d be dumb of them not to incorporate extra features for full game owners rather than Starter Edition owners. As for Ladder and MMR, it will be much harder to incorporate than a game such as Starcraft 2, due to Team composition, Stat preferences, and item usage. 9: Stat Scaling. Blizzard has a bad history with stat scaling every since Wrath of the Lich King in World of Warcraft. And they’ve gotten increasingly bad about it with Cataclysm, and their future predictions on items in Mist of Pandaria and later expansions. I’d like to say that after playing SotIS and seeing people play DotA/DotA2 that low stats are key to providing a perfectly balanced DotA style game. It allows armor rating to be more useful/precise, allows HP/Damage ratings to be worth more, and makes it so that (Random example) Strength>Agility>Intelligence>Strength instead of Strength>Agility/Intelligence. 10: Mercenary Camps are covered in 5. 11:Miscellaneous. For now nothing, might be more to come, maybe not. Nov 25, 2011 Looking for lefthanded gaming mouses Hello, I've been trying to look for gaming mouses, but most of them are right handed. You see, I have sort of a disability with my right hand and all, so yeah. I play both this game and WoW, and hoping to see if there is a hybrid mouse of those two games, for lefthanded people. What would you recommend? Thanks!Dudemanguy4 Nov 25, 2011
Nov 25, 2011 This isn't really about a non-Blizzard game It's about a old one, I'm just about tearing my hair out due to Blizzard NOT making a carbon for StarEdit, why does everyone back at the old BNet have to suffer from lack of map editors, and for Mac, the only editor that doesn't have a dead download link LITERALLY freezes to the point where when I force-quit it, it causes a application I deleted to OPEN. Why Blizz, why?PedoLing2 Nov 25, 2011
Nov 25, 2011 Building gaming comp, have a few questions So I'm working on building a new budget gaming computer under $400 using parts of my current computer and buying other new parts. So far this is what I got Motherboard: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6089064&CatId=4296&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&AffiliateID=iFudSkud_Rc-tOxuhIpprQvmxcr7I2jwNw Video Card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=41125&Sku=E145-0550&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&AffiliateID=iFudSkud_Rc-a1Y5SwWtJIHHuWqvTKZqcw Power Supply: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4362114&Sku=O261-2017&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&AffiliateID=iFudSkud_Rc-AmJ0gyRUz95xbRYrCpfNxw What I want to salvage from my current computer is my hard drive (because it works perfectly fine, I don't see why I should replace it and buy a new OS) and CPU. I'm not computer tech savvy at all and I'm getting paranoid on compatibility issues since my current computer is a Dell storebought computer and I wouldn't know if the parts (Hard drive and CPU) in there wouldn't be compatible with a foreign motherboard and such. And then I have to worry about drivers I think. Ideally, I would buy those three parts mentioned up there, take out the hard drive and CPU in my current Dell computer, and shove 'em in a new pretty case (complying with installation instructions of course) and turn on the new computer and boom everything is fine, however I really don't want to underestimate the complexity of the hardware. Also my CPU is an AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.00 GHz in case anyone needs that info. Thanks in advance for any advice.Kitsune14 Nov 25, 2011

Nov 24, 2011 Microsoft Office Keys and Reformatting To start off I'll get it out of the way, no I'm not asking for office keys. I currently use home and student 2010 which came with the use of two keys and I am currently using up one on this computer. My computer is starting to hit that point that I would prefer to do a fresh installation of windows, but I am assuming if I do that there is no way to reinstall office again without using up the other key. Are there any legitimate ways to avoid this kind of situation? I am also aware of open source products such as Libreoffice, which I currently use on my laptop for the database. Unfortunately when it comes to formatting and knowing the various tricks for making things like my resume nice and shiny my strength is with windows products. Pancakes2 Nov 24, 2011
Nov 24, 2011 amd a6-3400m vs intel i5 2430m HELP ... AMD A6-3400m @1.4 GHz up to 2.3 GHz AMD Radeon HD 6520G Graphics. Apparently its "512 MB dedicated video memory" but dxdiag in the Best Buy store I just went to showed 2047MB vram ... Intel i5-2430M @2.4 GHz up to 3.0 GHz Intel HD Graphics 3000 "128 MB dedicated video memory" WHAT DOES IT MEAN?? Why is the Intel processor so much faster?? Will that make a huge difference on Starcraft II performance, even though I heard AMD is much better for gaming? I would also like some advice on overclocking and adding RAM, especially if the AMD is the way to go. I'm only a junior in high school, this will be my first ever laptop (YAY) so if you were me, which one would you choose? I am on a very limited budget so the price difference means a lot. This laptop won't only be used for Starcraft (although I admit shamelessly that it's a very important deciding factor) but I want to know about how the different processors affect battery life, running normal tasks, etc. Thanks guys and girls :)JusSn7 Nov 24, 2011
