Game concept: Frogger (LONG & Creative)

We all remember the good old days of playing the game Frogger at the arcade, or at home, trying to make it across the street without being hit by a car. You could play this game with friends, it was fun, competitive and could give you a few good laughs. This game could easily be among the top played, if not the top played. Several levels, difficulties, perspectives to watch from, abilities to save your fellow frogs, and level up as you go. You can take one for the team, sacrifice for the team, or be stranded and flattened on the street.

Looking for an experienced mapmaker who has the same vision for this game as I do, and can make this game a hit like it was back then. The game and concept are by me, so it'd be great if the maker could keep in contact with me and bounce ideas off of each other. Below are ideas/concepts that should be in the game.

Hellions as cars, they're not too big, not too small, and have good speed (like a typical four door car these days). Hellions seem the be the right route to me, and they're terran (human) which makes more sense to have them in the game.

Tanks as semis AND/OR a transport unit, these larger units provide more difficulty as they're nearly twice the width of a hellion, and they're slower units (like semis).

Drunk drivers, this is practical in a sense that you'd come across a drunk driver at least once in your life out on the road. They're unpredictable, swerving side to side, sometimes crashing into other cars, sometimes spinning out of control or turning sideways.

Grandma/Grandpa drivers, We're all familiar with it, the stereotype which usually holds true, old people drive slow. Sometimes 5-10MPH under the speed limit and you're stuck waiting for them to pass, or waiting for them to finally get out of the way.

Lead foot/Drag racers, we're familiar with those who like to speed, sometimes over the limit and flying down the highway or side streets, making it dangerous to all on the road. Accidents happen, sometimes they end up in a ditch, or fly off the road into a tree.

Vultures, it's the circle of life, animals are born, killed, eaten and reproduce. Who could turn down a tasty snack on the side of the road? Birds/vultures could be a creative way of making this game more fun and unpredictable. Hide for your life and watch as your fellow frog friends try to escape, or a picked up and eaten. Push your friends out in the open and make them take one for the team.

First person mode, look at the road from a different perspective, a frogs perspective. Low and to the ground, with limited visibility. Take the game to a new extreme with a new difficulty.

Give me a tongue!, the idea that you can revive a squashed frog friend by launching your tongue out and pulling them in to safety. However, this should have limited range (say a half a lane, or one lane).

Smart cars, we live in a more environmentally friendly world now, with smart cars becoming more and more popular, they're tiny, great on gas mileage, and are half the size of a typical four door car.

Roadkill, that's right, roadkill. We've all seen it, usually more than once in a long distance travel, especially on streets near the forest or ponds. Cars try to avoid running over these animals and swerve out of the way in order to keep their cars clean and from being damaged.

Trash trucks/UPS/buses, urban, suburban, wherever you are, there are going to be trash trucks, they stop on the street for a short period of time, move and stop again. We also see the same with UPS trucks, they're legally allowed to stop along main roads in order to deliver a package, backing up traffic behind them. They're large vehicles, bigger than an SUV or hummer, and take up a lot of room in length.

Lighting/weather elements, It could be morning, night, the afternoon, or come time of sunset, the lighting is always different. Some days there is fog, snowy, other days rainy, a cloudy overcast, or bright sun that's blinding. These all effect drivers, and should effect the frogs as well.
Nice concept... I am a mapmaker myself. I might make a map like this.... someday....
I am not promising you anything though. There are multiple things stopping me from doing this, but one is I need to figure out how to make it so that when the cars hit the unit it respawns in the start line... I have an idea, but dunno if it will work. Will update you on it when I get a chance.
Hey man, I actually got it working. Half way through level 1. Dont expect me to finish the map though... I am planning on doing it, but now since school is here I only have an hour a WEEK on the editor. So if you are to expect this map out, expect it some time in June/July 2014 (sorry). I will be working on it to the best of my ability.
Sounds good, thanks for responding. I honestly do think this game could have some great potential.
This is what I got done so far:
  • Level 1: Hellions (move speed is 2)
  • Level 2: Tanks (tank speed is 1.75) and hellions (these hellions are green and have a speed of 2.75)
  • When any car hits you re spawn from the beginning.
  • Added many doodads to make it look like a city.
  • Day/Night Cycle

    Things I am thinking on doing:
  • I will be making it so that there is a checkpoint every 3 levels
  • I will be also adding upgrades that cost minerals. When you finish a level you get an amount of minerals to upgrade. Such upgrades can include: Faster movement speed, More energy (for abilities). more energy regen, and more lives (i will be incorporating a lives system (will be some where around 20 without upgrades).
  • I will also be adding a ranking system... more you play more you rank up... this allows people to keep on playing it.
  • And maybe even add another game mode... such as whoever reaches the finish line wins (but this mode will incorporate no lives)

    I like it thus far. Adding the doodads to make it look city like is exactly what I was wanting and hoping for. The element of levels and upgrades is a good idea and one that I was also thinking of. Different modes gives it more playability, and if all goes well this map should be on the top played for a very, very long time.

    These are the 4 upgrades that will be available for each player. What do you think about the UI? It is located on the right of the screen a little under the minerals/gas and supply section
    I like it, sorry for the long reply. Family issues have come up. It's a good spot for it, and shouldn't block the view, and if it does, maybe it can go down where the unit information is?
    Its alright, I will be taking a couple of weeks off making this map though. Busy myself
    There was a game like frogger in the arcade, but I can't quite remember what it was called... It started off with crossing the street by dodging cars, then by going through a field of widow mines (Which I think your detection range barely outranged their attack range). And then there was a field with banshees, but you could hide in the high grass.
    Just wondering how it's coming along :P
    Due to unfortunate circumstances, I have quit sc2 map making. I will be asking people if they want to continue the project though on sc2mapster ( it is an sc2 mapping site)

    if you wanted i could model you a car. wouldn't be hard.
    plus i was working on a abillity to make units die around a unit (i was making a super weapon lazer beam with a unit so you could control the beam after you launch it)
    also i wouldnt mind a break from modeling my game (i want everything to be new cserdczsxzeax)

    and also it seems nobody thinks the name : "world of honor" is a interesting name :|
