Interesting New Feral Secrete. [Rake>Mangle] **It really helps if you read through it all so that you don't jump to any false conclusions after only reading 1 paragraph.** So I've been messing around trying to find new and better ways to play feral; what i discovered is a pretty handy secrete that you all might want to know about. I don't consider this a bug since it's just the mechanics of the abilities. Pretty much it comes down to this: Rake spamming > mangle spamming -- and here's why. I'm currently glyphed for the extra mangle damage however even with it, rake will do more. First let me point out (or remind you) how dots work right now. When you overlap an existing dot (refresh it before i falls off) the count down timer for the next tick is not reset or interrupted. So by spamming rake you will not effect it's bleed dot effect. next is how rake deals it's damage. When you first apply rake, the initial damage is equivalent to it's bleed tick. In my case it's 4k on a training dummy. That's initial as well as the bleed tick. My mangle hitting right around 7k. Right off, you'll say, well 7k sounds better than 4k to me... well there is another part of rake that has gone unnoticed to me in the past. When you apply rake, it will do it's initial damage as well as it's first tick right off from the start. This means that as you spend the same 35 energy for rake as you do mangle you're hitting twice with the one attack. meaning rake doing 2 parts of 4k damage. 8k>7k is proper math last i checked ^_^ This is what's happening: You rake a target and deal initial damage plus the first tick of the bleed effect that is applied. But if the bleed is already on the target, you're getting it's tick as well as the reapplied tick. Now at first i was thinking, okay well it's not more than mangle because the dot timer is getting reset. But oh wait, no, they changed that. And you can easily see the extra damage if you rake a dummy, then right after a tick, use rake again and you'll see the 2 attacks from rake and shortly after, the next tick from the bleed. Meaning you can have your bleed rolling, properly ticking each time even while you spam an attack that is essentially doing more damage than mangle even with the glyph. Oh and here's one more fun fact. Both scale with gear, but rake will scale even more since it gets the benefits of mastery. Feel free to check it out on a dummy. But why do i even bother to bring this up? Well in PvP there are some situations where you can't always get a shred right when you need it, so you default to mangle. (which is why i use the glyph). It would be more practical to default to rake instead so long as you keep your mangle debuff on the target. Naturally this doesn't really mean much in PvE but i suppose if you also have times where you can't shred, it's better to use rake than mangle. **As a kind of disclaimer; If this is actually |NOT| intended, then i apologize to Blizzard for not reporting it as soon as I discovered this. As i previously mentioned I believe this to be a properly working mechanic of the ability** Dreåmer23
