Sep 7, 2011 What Ret needs for 4.3 I think these things are what we need: Templar's Verdict at 3 stacks does the same damage as now, but also lays down a big poof of consecration on the ground that reduces enemy run speed by 70% when they are on it. OR a seal that we could use that has an effect when it's judged on an enemy that reduces it's run speed by 50% (could have an internal cool down) If these aint an option then something like this: Long arm of the law mechanic changed so that when you judge a target at least 10 yards away, you charge at it, would have a 20 second internal cool down. If this proves to be annoying, have this ability only work when a certain seal is on. Aetherion23 Sep 7, 2011
Sep 7, 2011 Typical Transmog Thread I'm mostly interested in keeping it simple. S10 Paladin gear looks pretty good (besides the terrible helm) so I'm retaining that. For helm purposes, I'm picking up the kickass T6 helm (maybe three !@#$ing Protector helm tokens won't drop of Archimonde this time). I got the Shield Breaker's Bulwark aka the table for my shield and I inadvertently had the healing mace off of Kil'Jaeden drop in that run of SWP so I now have a cool mace to work with. And I think that's about it besides maybe hunting the Judgement look-alike gear from BC heroics. Just wish I could transmog the mace into a different weapon type because the Red Sword of Courage is beastly. So, what are you fellow paladins planning for 4.3?Pøtpally0 Sep 7, 2011
Sep 7, 2011 Ranseur of Hatred Pally weapon? I was doing a FL trash run and a pally friend wanted to roll on that weapon with two hunters in the group. Everyone kept bushing him but he was going to roll he said. Sep 7, 2011 Ret Gear Question (PVP vs PVE) I see a lot of Ret Paladin's (even well geared ones) using 384 Arena shoulders + hands as their PVE gear for FL raiding. The benefits to doing this are: - Primary stats (strength) over the 378 tier pieces - 2 piece set bonus (70 strength) - Scale Gauntlets add 5% overall increased damage to Crusader Strike Some will argue that resilience is useless, but these benefits can't be ignored. Now my question: I have the two pieces for arena gear but I just got the 378 Immolation Gauntlets which are a 1v1 upgrade over the arena hands. Is it worth it for me to lose the 3 bonuses above? Or am I better off getting the two set bonus from arena hands, then the 2 set bonus from the legs + chest tier 12 gear? Those 2 set bonuses would give me 20% increased CS overall. Another Random Question: I also have 1 piece (legs) to complete a two set on the tier 12 gear... is 15% more damage to crusader strike better than 10% to templars verdict that you get from the tier 11 set?Icaruss0 Sep 7, 2011
Sep 7, 2011 OS Ret has some gear questions So my OS is ret and I'm trying to get my ret set up to snuff for 1 tank FL encounters. I've been terribly unlucky in in BH and have not been fortunate enough to save any VP in there. I currently have 4p nonheroic-t11 (chest, shoulders, gloves, pants) as well as t12 chest. I recently obtained Fireskin Gauntlets, but had read that pvp gloves were the ideal off set piece. What I was wanting to know is would the honor point pvp gloves (Vicious Gladiator's Scaled Gauntlets)be better than the Fireskin Gauntlets, or is the entire argument moot and I should stick with 4p t11 until i get 2p t12? Thanks!Terreth1 Sep 7, 2011
Sep 7, 2011 Ret pallies pwn face in PvP We're awesome and anybody that says we're not can get squashed by a massive hammer:) I've been running around doing world pvp on my server and there's not a class that I fear. I pwn all classes as ret, stun pop big yellow dude pop wings and when the stun wears off they're already dead and if their not I'll be about to pop zealotry. And if they don't die I can kite like crazy, dispel snares easy if my HoF is on cd. Can judge for speed boost then repent. I got jumped by a better geared DK and his mage buddy while farming in TB and got away, stun one repent the other then speed run into some friendly adds. We can't snare but we can run fast. And we can kite. Our damage is burst and has a ramp up time. Burst wins fights and as long as we skip Zealotry and just pop AG and wings there's not much ramp up time. Basically in PvP we pwn some srs face and once 4.2 hits we will even be able to heal as good as a rogue and warrior:) DKs can still heal better then us but who cares we'll burst em so fast they'll be to busy trying to keyboard turn and run away to try healing. Just wanted to share with you how much pallies kick ass so nobody gets the wrong idea about our class since some people can't figure out how to play it right:)Orkbane59 Sep 7, 2011
Sep 7, 2011 Blood Knight Order Thank you draenei for assisting in our redemption, via your leader Velen the Prophet, our birthright, the Sunwell was restored through channeling the very heart of a Naaru into it, reigniting it not only as a source of arcane power but Holy energy as well. What is next for our order? we didn't see much of the Blood Knights in the Northrend campaign, even though our vengeance (along with the vengeance of the Knights of the Ebon Blade) came to fruition upon the death of Arthas Menethil. Sep 7, 2011 Missing So in the past week or so, I've noticed that I'm missing A LOT with abilities like AS, CS, ShotR. My understanding is that hit isn't important, but it's to the point where it is severely impacting my damage, threat, and holy power gains. In fact, we did Black Temple last night, and I was missing targets with AS there too. They're 10+ levels below me. Any idea what's going on? Feel free to critique any aspect of my gear (except ilvl... i have what i have), gemming, enchanting, spec... whatever I can do to try to fix this, because frankly I'm getting pretty pissed off with it.Atlántis18 Sep 7, 2011

Sep 7, 2011 Easy Fix for Ret PvP Remove the unit requirement on divine storm and make it undodgeable/unparryable. Ret can now reliably generate holy power from an undodgeable/unparryable attack and generate it at bonus melee range. It does less damage than cs so you still wouldnt use it if you dont have to. Sep 7, 2011 [PvP] How should I gear my Holy Paladin? I just dusted off my Prot Paladain and in the process of getting him PvP Holy Gear, but I don't know which pieces to get. Do I want to go for pieces that have crit or spirit on them? How should I reforge? What trinkets should I get? What weapon and boot enchants do I want to have? What Aura should I generally be using?Velmont6 Sep 7, 2011
Sep 7, 2011 372 PvE weapon vs. 378 PvP Weapon I was just wondering whether the heroic 372 weapon (namely, Akirus the Wormbreaker off H Magmaw) would serve as a better weapon than a 378 ruthless pvp weapon in a PvE scenario. Although the pvp weapon has better strength and sheer damage output than the PvE weapon, the PvE weapon has 2 useful stats (Exp and Mastery). Does the extra mastery on the PvE weapon make it better for raiding than a 378 PvP weapon assuming hit and exp cap is reached in both situations? Thanks!Yaptap0 Sep 7, 2011
Sep 7, 2011 min/maxing your ret pally i'm trying to min/max myself to get the most i can out of professions. i have no problem spending the money/time to choose a different profession if one is actually better than the ones i currently have. JC - nets 81 extra strength from epic chimera gems Alchemy - nets 80 exta strength when flasked with titanic strength or flask of battle Now, im almost 100% positive that JC is one of the two best professions for min/maxing myself, but what would the other one be? BS for extra gem sockets? tailoring for the unique cloak enchant thats the same as landslide on your weapon? Thanks in advance for the educated responses.Hastega34 Sep 7, 2011
Sep 6, 2011 Heroic Rhyolith I need all the help I can get regarding picking up the fragments of Rhyolith. As soon as they pop, our dps starts aoeing. If I have been occupied by a spark, I just cannot pick them up before they wreak havoc on our raid. Does anyone have any suggestions to pick them up or is Pally aoe threat just that bad? Last night, after 3 wipes, I offered to sit for a druid who had no issues picking up the fragments, while I could not keep them off of our dps. I am very frustrated about this. I have tanked all of normal FL without issue, but this is a real problem. I will note that our dps has much, much better gear than I do (378-381 for them versus 368 for me).Parcival8 Sep 6, 2011

Sep 6, 2011 Less qq more pew pew The other day there was someone in my server looking for more dps for rbg's. I offered him my ret services and he replied "lolret? no thx" So I asked him if he played a ret pally and why he was saying that. Well he told me he never played a pally, but he knew was bad because that was what everyone said. Ret have such bad image because of all the baddies complaining ret sucks. I see all these threads complaining and it makes me sad. If you don't like the class or can't play it well, reroll a fotm. I suggest mages for you, maybe a dk if you like plate. I have 5 lvl 85 toons, including some currently very op but I just don't enjoy playing them and i don't find them half as fun as find playing a paladin. They have their own issues so don't you think the other classes are perfect because they are not. Also keep in mind that if you like to play with others (i usually play with my wife) you are very useful because of heals, damage reduction, burst, freedom and so many great abilities that makes us the best support class (imo) So i say: Be a pally, smoke pally, eat pally, drink pally, love pally, have sexy time with a pally or quit the class.Bullvar1 Sep 6, 2011

Sep 6, 2011 The best reason to play Paladin I've noticed a lot of complaints about paladins lately, with regard to their low dps and limited combat options. But what players are forgetting is the main reason Blizzard programmed Paladins. Paladins were not designed to be hybrid Tanks/Healers, as many claim. Instead, paladins were designed to be played while downloading pornography. Paladins have roughly zero combat interaction, thus making them the perfect character to play while downloading massive amounts of hardcore pornography. Simply target a monster, hit "1", and minimize your window. Then sit back and enjoy the amazing girl on girl action. Because a Paladin takes about one full minute to kill any monster, you can leisurely browse the erotic and pornographic fruits of the internet without much concern over your Paladin's welfare. After a minute, I go back to WoW, and usually my Paladin is alive and ready to loot the corpse. This is what makes grinding so pleasurable and convenient for me; the ability to simultaneously watch girls have sex with each other and level up at the same time. I doubt any other class has such an elegantly designed system, and I applaud Blizzard for their foresight in crafting a character that I can play with while playing with myself. DPS? Who needs it? The quicker I kill something, the less time I have to watch boobies. Combat Interactivity? Overrated. I'd much rather interact with the girls writhing on my computer screen. Yes, a paladin was created for the sole purpose of surviving a fight while you stream hot pornography directly to your computer. That is why we have the high armor class, healing abilities, and the low, low DPS. As for PvP, nothing is better than getting into Battlegrounds and soaking up the honor points while I watch girls take their clothes off for money. Only the minimum interaction is necessary for a Paladin to perform, and it is this very quality that I love the most about my Paladin. I doubt Rogues get any time to watch pornography while trying to vanish and rack up combo points, and I bet Shamans haven't seen a single naked breast while figuring out which totem to throw down before choosing which shock they are going to cast next. In addition to grinding, we have several defensive options during combat that also allow us the flexibility of downloading pornography. Hammer of Justice allows a quick 6 second glimpse at a naked lady while our opponent is stunned, and Divine Shield allows a leisurely 8 seconds of quality right-hand time. Indeed, Paladins have cornered the market on the pornography during playtime of World of Warcraft gameplay. It saddens me that many Paladins do not take advantage of the main functionality of your character, and are in fact lobbying for increased DPS, or more combat options. These are all unnecessary frivolities that would only harm our pornography downloading efficiency. Instead, we should thank the fine programmers at Blizzard for crafting a character that is great to grind with while grinding your loins.Eggsaladin7 Sep 6, 2011

Sep 6, 2011 Seals Off Global A suggestion I have regarding seals is to take them off the global cooldown. I have a few examples where it would be very helpful: 1. Brezzed and you need to buff as quickly as possible, most classes have a single buff, we have our seal and blessing, people need your healing, and so you need to get to it as quickly as possible 2. Let's say you're fighting a ghost wolf shaman or travel form druid. Your auto-attack goes off a split-second before you use Seal of Justice, and so you have to wait a full second, or more, depending on if your Crusader Strike is on CD or off. If you had just used your Crusader Strike, then you have to wait at least 3 seconds for your auto attack or Crusader Strike to come off of its CD because no one would want to use Templar's Verdict with less than 3 Holy Power, and it's very RNG based on whether or not you will have 3 3. Ret paladins are a mixed role of damage/support once their CDs have ran their duration, and Avenging Wrath is dispelled by anyone with any sense, so this would be considered a miniscule buff, if even that, compared to how easily we can get our biggest source of damage removedPårkêr2 Sep 6, 2011
Sep 6, 2011 Is Ret PvP REALLY that bad off? i keep reading all these QQ ret pvp sucks threads, but when i look at the talent tree and the skills ret mainly uses in pvp i dont see a GIANT issue. granted, there's small things that could be improved, but i dont see a huge gaping issue. many of the complaints i see are the lack of consistent slow, being able to be kited, and basis on RNG(i dont know what this acronym stands for, but i understand it deals with proc reliance.) The way i see it is Ret has many counter measures to being kited. Pursuit of Justice gives Ret higher movespeed, and in Conjunction with Long Arm of the Law which gives us ANOTHER speed boost, allows us to catch fleeing, or kiting targets relatively well, and Repentance can be used to catch up to a target and apply SoJ in the event of snares, HoF is the obvious thing to use, and SoJ limits max MS to 100%, which we move faster than that anyway thanks to PoJ. as far as Proc reliance, and lackluster DPs outside of wings combos and such, i cant really say, as im only level 59, but i've played ret in BG's a lot, and i have no trouble as far as being kited or snared to death. (for those of you who look at my specs, my main is prot, yes, and holy off spec has recently been for taking a break from tanking instances and such.)Rakaith70 Sep 6, 2011
Sep 5, 2011 Ret PVP: How do you stop mounted players? So I just started playing my pally again for PVP and there have been a ton of changes since I last played (holy power? What the heck is that?). Anyway, I'm getting used to things again but I can't get used to not having a snare. In BG's and the like, is there any way to slow people down? We use Seal of Truth most of the time right? Isin't switching over to Seal of Justice kind of awkward? What do you guys do?Noriega10 Sep 5, 2011

Sep 5, 2011 Who to beacon... So yesterday my guild was running firelands, its me, another pally and a holy priest. The other pally asked who I was beaconing, so i told him i would beacon the OT and heal the MT. He then told me I should beacon who I am healing so that my DL's build up holy power. So which way is the more "mainstream" way to heal, everything I have ever read for 4.2 has said to beacon somebody other than your main healing priority, to maximize efficiency. Any info would be helpful.Bubblehearth20 Sep 5, 2011
Sep 5, 2011 Pally Armor must haves since the original WoW i haven't seen any holy looking armor, and was quite disappointed in WolK (my paladin looked like a warlock) and with Cataclysm: fire lands (my paladin looks like a Fire Mage) why do paladins need to look like other classes? why can't my Paladin have plate leggings instead of a robe or a dress? Paladins need to get back to being Holy Warriors of the light, not looking like a class their not.Heleana4 Sep 5, 2011
Sep 5, 2011 If holy is 4 healing why dps talents in tree? What are they for? Whenever someone mentions they like leveling as shockadin they are met with countless responses that shockadin sucks, holy is for healing, end of story. Ret is twice as fast even though it "sucks" now and is in a sorry state. Question. What is exorcism for and all the other dps talents in the tree? Also at level 72 I seem to 2 shot most mobs in ret quicker? I kill mobs quicker than my BM Hunter friend I kid you not! Yet everyone say ret is better for leveling, really? What am I missing? I am not saying at 85 shockadin is better dps, but for leveling how is ret better? Does ret 1 shot every mob while leveling?Kiza9 Sep 5, 2011

Sep 5, 2011 Possible Ret Paladin Fixes? Minimizing Burst while increasing steady damage: Increase overall damage or Add another attack that grants holy power and Sanctified Wrath no longer allows the use of Hammer of Wrath while AW is active Gap closer: Slow or Long Arm of the Law now snares the target for 4 seconds when activated. Survivability: Passive Damage Reduction (i.e., something like soul link, but only 10-15%) or Divine Protection's duration is now 12 seconds, up from 6. It is also now on a 30 second cooldown, down from 1 minute. or Selfless Healer now grants 50% bonus healing on the caster also, but does not apply damage buff if used on self. Dunno, just ideas, tell me what you think. TL;DR: Need slow, more survivability, and more steady damage while reducing burst damage. Fortífy1 Sep 5, 2011

Sep 5, 2011 Looking forward: Patch 5.0 Ret Paladin Design With each major expansion, Paladins have received a pretty substantial overhaul. Between the massively OP 3.0 Ret paladin to the introduction of Holy Power, paladins have time and again received revamps resulting is drastic playstyle changes. Now granted, this was all done to better establish the paladin niche, both in lore and playstyle, and I think everyone in the community can pretty much agree we're getting better each time around. If we have learned anything from our past however, it's that the next expansion, and the Patch 5.0 that will inevitably precede it, will bring yet another major paladin revamp. With that in mind, I'd like to discuss a few refinements to the 4.0 paladin I've been considering, focusing on Retribution first, in the hope that we can institute less drastic and more subtle yet logical changes. First and foremost, Holy Power has felt like both a blessing and a curse. While it did provide the added complexity the paladin rotations badly needed, it did it in a way that ended up feeling clunky and unintuitive. It seems like the biggest issue here was not the amount of Holy Power required, or even the need for Holy Power in the first place, but rather the rate at which it's generated. Knowing that Crusader Strike is not only one of our biggest sources of damage, but also the source of our Holy Power generation, makes it a really fun button to press, but also makes having to wait for it to come off cooldown a frustrating wet-blanket, and adding in random filler spells to use during that downtime only serves to make things worse. We went from a world of FCFS to a world of CS, FCFS of available fillers, CS...finisher - all these filler spells do is create the same bland environment that FCFS did in WotLK sandwiched between the fun-to-press, Holy Power generating Crusader Strike, so why even have all these fillers? On top of that, the current Ret rotation/priority system has created an environment that is heavily RNG based, leaving the Ret paladin feeling overpowered and blessed when Art of War/Divine Purpose procs are plentiful, and downright ineffective, if not penalized, when procs are scarce. Additionally, having a single target rotation that must fall back on two seperate mana-intensive AoE abilities, Holy Wrath and Consecration, (which do very low damage to a single target compared to the proc dependant AoW/DP mechanics) when procs are scarce is not only unintuitive, it can feel like a penalty for not finding a way to generate more AoW/DP procs (as if we had any control over that to begin with). Ever been in a situation where a proc shortage meant using Holy Wrath and Consecration within the same TV cycle right before a burn phase? Being a OOM, or nearly OOM ret for these reasons is bad design, because going OOM due to mana-intensive fillers being required during proc shortages isn't a failure to manage our mana resource properly, it's a penalty imposed by unfavorable RNG. Not to mention, stalling your TV spam during Zealotry to judge for mana all because you were immediately preceeded by a bad-RNG fueled proc shortage is no fun as well. These are the main design problems that exist with Ret DPS on live as I see them (FCFS fillers sandwiched between Crusader Strikes, heavy RNG dependance, and the inclusion of mana-intensive AoE fillers into the single-target rotation). With that in mind, see the next post for my proposed solutions:Naimon30 Sep 5, 2011
