Character Not Found

Whenever I try to log in the game I get the message "Character not found" and returned to the character select screen. I have tried deleting my cache/interface/wtf folders and restarting my computer, nothing helps. It happens with all my characters and on different realms. Additionally wow will sometimes disconnect me if I change realms.

Here is my connection.log file

Sometimes a power cycle of the connection can help with this issue.

Here's how to power cycle:

1. Turn off all computers on the network
2. Unplug the power from the modem and the router (if applicable)
3. Wait about 1-2 minutes
4. Plug in the modem first and wait for it to completely boot up
5. If there was a router, plug the power back in and wait for it to completely boot up
6. Turn on the computers and try the game out

If that doesn't work try the steps in the link below:

Let me know what happens.

I am on a university LAN and not a home network so I have no modem or router to unplug. I have a static IP address so ipconfig /release and /renew do nothing, but I did them anyway.

I have also tried using the wow repair tool but that did not resolve the issue.

Did you try flushing the DNS? Those steps are found in the previous blue post.

Lets see what happens when the servers come back up. Hopefully, the maintenance resolves this issue.

Coma back and let me know.

I've had a similar problem. I have released and renewed the IP via console commands, power cycled my modem and computer and flushed the dns, and deleted the wtf, cache, and interface folders. I was able to log in for a few minutes and then decided to check if the problem would persist. Sadly, once I logged out, I kept getting either a loading screen and then character not found, or I would be booted to the login screen where upon entering my account info, I would receive a "Success!" message, and yet nothing would happen - seemed almost like a time-out.
BUMP.

Having this problem and it's driving me nuts. I can't seem to log in at all anymore.
BTW what isp you guys on?
I too am having this problem. Deleting the interface/wtf/cache folders seemed to make things worse. now things freeze when trying to connect to a realm. after around 2 minutes of trying to connect to a realm it disconnects.
I just started having this problem i logged out of my paladin and now i cant log back in on any of my toons
I have been having the same issue the last 2 days with no resolution. i have tried all of the "blue's" suggestions. very frustrated with this update.
took me over 30 tries, but I finally got on.
I am having the same problem on silver-hand.. i tried flushing dns/deleting wtf and cache files... to no avail unfortunately :(. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
Same for me on Draenor or everywhere else. Got the connection 3 times yesterday but today none at all on the thirty times i try. The Tuesday's upgrade was responsible i think
I was fine last night after the patch but can't get onto any North American realms today. None of the above solutions work.
Tried the mentioned ideas, and I'm still having the same issues as everyone else here. Sometimes it works but most of the time I get the "Character not found" coming up. On all realms. And this only started after the 4.0.6 patch

I wonder if blizz is planning on giving us free game time, because this has been happening to me for 2 days now. I'm kind of sick of paying for something I can rarely use because it's buggy. At least they kind of fixed vanish...
Power Cycle worked like a charm for me. Thanks, David.

If everyone here has tried the provided troubleshooting to no avail, try calling or e-mailing Blizzard directly. Using the forums doesn't guarantee a reply, especially when a large percentage of posts are nothing but clutter, making the blues' job that much harder to find pertinent info. Repeating "Character not found" for 11 lines, being whiny, and then not even saying whether or not the provided troubleshooting was attempted, does not help Blizzard help you.
It seems I have a 50 50 chance of getting on... This is really not encouraging. Hopefully some of the tips in this thread help.
Let me guess... You guys are all on windows 7 platform?
