As a couple posters have mentioned, we're planning to remove the Test of Valor step from the Legendary chain.

Regarding item upgrades, those are being converted to use Lesser Charms of Good Fortune as currency instead of Justice or Valor.

So what about that vendor on Timeless Isle who will sell me timeless coins for valor? That's what I've been spending on, and I'd like to keep buying them every week...

About the lesser charms though, I'm sitting on around 12,000 of them, clearly I'm going to run out of things to upgrade. What's going to happen to all of my excess charms?

Aside from item upgrades (which will only be available on Mists of Pandaria items), and Warforged Seals (which will only function in Siege of Orgrimmar), we have no additional plans for Lesser Charms.

:(

Ah well, least I know I can keep turning them in for seals and then disenchanting what I get.

Will the test of valor be removed pre-6.0? Must admit, the only truly annoying part about the quest is that. :/

No plans to remove Test of Valor prior to 6.0, no.

Just wondering, but will the Achievement for completing Test of Valor be converted to a Feat of Strength post-6.0?
Going to ask since it hasn't been answered yet. Are we getting gold in place of valor similar to what happened back in wotlk with the tokens which took up bag space, or are valor points just going away with nothing in return?

They've always done a Valor->Justice->Gold conversion with every Raid Tier. I'd guess that the gold conversion would be higher than previous, as both Justice and Valor are being removed entirely in favor of using gold as the primary PvE currency.

if you want to upgrade another item, you'll spend Lesser Charms instead of Valor.

Now that's a neat change! If only Charms were account-bound, then I'd have some truly happy alts. :)

Sounds like a good improvement regardless, however. I'm excited to finally have another purpose for my (tens of?) thousands of charms!

wait the gear i upgraded is reverting back to 0/4 status?

No, gear that's already been upgraded will keep its current upgrade status. The only change is that, if you want to upgrade another item, you'll spend Lesser Charms instead of Valor.

Can you confirm for the purpose of planning out how many charms we need to farm before 6.0
1. How many Lesser Charms will each upgrade cost? I am hoping that it isn't 1000 Lesser Charms to upgrade an item 4/4 like it is 1000 VP.
2. Is there any cap on how many times you can upgrade items with Lesser Charms in a week? I.E, if I have a toon with 17,000 charms, can I just upgrade a massive amount of items as soon as 6.0 goes live?
OK, so when is 6.0 dropping?

Likely it will end up being a number that is reasonably the same time investment as it is to get 1000 valor, and then a bit less because they want us to get rid of those charms before the expansion.

Technically, the cap is currently 16 upgrades in one week. You can be maxxed at 3,000 valor, upgrade 3 items from 0/4 to 4/4, then go get your 1,000 valor for the week and do one more item from 0/4 to 4/4, for 16 upgrades total.

Realistically, they're probably fine with you upgrading everything you've got with whatever charms you have before the expansion. There's really no reason to gate it so you can't spend your charms.

One other related change worth mentioning is that the turn-in quest for Warforged Seals is having its weekly restriction lifted in 6.0, so you can get as many Warforged Seals as you have charms for!
What's going to happen to the valor vendors?

I'm going to miss having that as a fallback to get upgrades.

I really hope they add some more stuff to purchase with excess charms.

No you won't. I am sure they are anticipating folks having thousands of Lesser Charms and will price upgrades high enough to make certain you spend down before reaping over the top upgrades on day one of WOD. lol

That's gonna be a lot of Warforged Seals
Come on Immerseus, spit out a heroic WF ring for me...

1. It's currently set to 50 Lesser Charms per upgrade, but that number isn't set in stone.
2. There are no additional caps being added for upgrades. Keep in mind that you can only upgrade each item a limited number of times.

That's interesting that this is our announcement. Watcher seemed to make it seem like there was going to be something more slightly climactic than this:

@YohOmbriel We'll likely be giving some new options to spend your excess Lesser Charms in 6.0 - details will follow in a blog or forum post.

Nearly everything that previously was purchased with Valor (or Justice) will now be purchased with gold instead. The only exception I'm aware of is Item Upgrades.

Is this going to be true going forward, or is this just a stop-gap for 6.0?

Meaning, are you completely getting rid of this kind of item purchasing? And what non-rng system is coming in to take its place?

My 30k lesser charms cry out for a way to spend them.
