Operation : Loremaster

Quests
1 2 3 6 Next
So the basic concept behind this is that I saw another individual post on reddit that he had done every Loremaster achievement for each zone fairly in order and that he was 85 before he even reached Cata content. Having Loremaster on my main from pre-Cata I have been rather hesitant about going back on her and doing the new Cata quests. I started druid the other night and came up with this challenge for myself. I don't doubt the other person claiming to have done something similar to this might have done so but I am willing to document on Reddit if other wow players are interested.

My rules for myself:

1)Do every achievement for a level bracket before moving to the next set of level brackets. (IE Do Darkshore, Westfall, Loch Modan, Blood Isles before moving to Red Ridge, .etc) so all 10-20s, then 20-30s.

2)No Outland before I have all Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor done. No Northrend till after Outland loremaster, etc.

3)No hopping around. I will do all 1-90 quests for Darkshore achievement then move to Westfall and do every quests.

4) No BGs and No Instances

5)Optional: I am hoping to get a no death run out of this.

The overall goal is to see how much rep I get and what lvl I arrive in Cata with by doing nearly every quest in the game.

If there is interest in my progress I can post here in reddit as I go along.

Let me know feedback and anything else you guys think I could do to make the leveling any more interesting from a Loremaster point of view.

Edit: Since some people have actually show interest in this challenge. My character to follow: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/shadow-council/Nurishment/simple

Other people who want to compete along with me (not necessarily against me) post the toon you want to do it on in a reply or message me and I will add em a list here in this initial post. Our own special club of geekdom.

I am considering starting a blog to answer peoples questions as I go along and maybe even stream on Justin TV. Post if you have interest in reading this, I will try to be witty/funny and point out cool stuff I found along the way. Such as Wither the companion pet in Darkshore.

Any feedback from the community and good ideas to make the blog better are greatly appreciated.

TL;DR- Doing every zone for loremaster, writing a blog about it. Check it out at: http://ghostsofmidnight.com/Lorecraft/
I too have been working on Loremaster but not like you are doing. I did all for asterm and then worked my way through to Kalimdor. Unfortunetly I have gotten stuck in Kalimdor - Bloodmyst Isle to be exact. I completed 56/60 and can not find the others that I need to complete Bloodmyst. If you would be so kind as to list the quest for it as you complete them I would be grateful and maybe I then too can comelete this adchievement also.
I was stuck in this situation as well. Evidently you need to complete A Small Start in Azuremyst
http://www.wowhead.com/quest=9506
To unlock a series of 5 quests in Bloodmyst.
Additionally check and see if you have gotten the quest pendant that drops off the named murloc Cruelfin:
http://www.wowhead.com/quest=9576
These were the two I was having trouble getting.

You'll have to hop around from area to area in the mid to late Outlands regions.
Some of the quests that count towards outlands areas quest credit will require you to go into instances to retrieve items.
Defeating the Gronn Lord's as part of the Ogri'la prequests in Blade's Edge Mountians, which is required for the BEM quests achievement, will be very tough if you plan using the leveling character. You can get around them by having another player help you, or kill them with a high level alt and then swap to the leveling character to pick up the items since they are dropped on the ground and not looted directly from the corpse. Seeing as how Outlands quests will take you to somewhere between 76 and 77, you may want to allow yourself to farm mid-range LK instances for gear, with xp turned off, if you want to fight the Gronn Lord's with the leveling toon.
I plan to do no instances but I do plan to get some of my 85 player friends to help me with some of the Outland content as I know it will not be able to be soloed, druid or not.

And update to the blog for anyone reading it.

As requested by some poster.

I am beginning to get a bit overwhelmed with the people saying they want to try this out each post. So I ask if you want to get a shout out that you are doing this challenge or have your blog linked out of my blog please go to the Other Participants page and leave a comment if you info so I don't have to do as much bouncing back and forth to update the page. If you commented you wanted to do the challenge and I don't have you in this section yet, I apologize.
I added some nice graphics to the blog today, hopefully people will like.
As always feedback is awesome and please take a moment to say hello, call out interesting lore I missed, or correct me if I am wrong in the comment section of the blog.

lots of updated zones now at http://http://operationloremaster.ghostsofmidnight.com/

Tell your lore and quest friends. I love any and all feedback.
Love the idea, I'm going for Loremaster as well (although I'll do a couple of raids, just to experience it). At the beginning, I tried doing it in the order you are, with doing all zones in one level bracket before moving on. I at one point realized this would get me too high a level, which I didn't want, as I still wanted decent rewards from the quests. So I've decided all zones I've been forced to skip, I'll come back and do at Lv. 85.

I got the BEM achievement without doing the Gronn Lords so it is possible Alliance side (you need to be careful to get the breadcrumb quests, which DO count for the achievement in this zone--I think there are 2 for Toshley's Station). You will have to kill elites at Ogri'la and elsewhere though so you'll have to find help or a group most likely regardless. I just came back and did the Gronn Lords at 85 and got the Ogres to worship me...that was a lot of fun.

And yes, there's no way to complete Nagrand without doing some of Shadowmoon Valley, which is higher level, so you'll have to bend your rule a little there.

Sounds like fun. I did something similar on this toon from Outland up, but I still have to go back and pick up a bunch of 1-60 zones since Cata hit when I was about lvl 64 and I didn't have LM of EK or Kalimdor.
basically thats what ive done. this marks my one year anniversary playing wow, and ive gone through zone by zone, finishing one before i start another and im just about 1/3 done with northrend and when im 100% then ill move on to cata.although ive run some dungeons also.

p.s. my guildies think im nuts :)

So did you hit 85 while in Northrend? I'm thinking of new ways to play the game and might be interested in trying to do all the questing zones and leveling up this way. Just looking for other like minded people.
I've decided to accept this challenge, so I rolled a Human and have been questing through the zones folllowing those rules. It's quite an interesting experience, fighting all gray mobs. So far, I'm in the middle of Darkshore, with Bloodmyst Isle the only 10-20 zone I have yet to complete.

I plan on getting the Loremaster achievement on this character as well, just not through the rules of the challenge.
Respect players who get loremaster as they level. Personally i'm on the quest to get my first loremaster character, but i'm going to have to go back and redo alot of the zones because cata changed them so much.

So did you hit 85 while in Northrend?

yes. i hit 85 early into northrend, but like i said i also ran some dungeons.but you have to completely ignore the xp. what matters is you complete all quests possible in the zone. even after i had loremaster in a zone, if there were still quests to do ,i did them.

Many areas were grey soon as i stepped into them, and sometimes there was little to no challenge but if i got bored i remove trinkets and equip my fishing pole to up the difficulty :)
this is my one and only toon ive ever made and i want her to accomplish everything she can.
my guildies couldt understand why i would stay in outland for months gaining no xp , while i could be lvling up in northrend :D
Turning off exp. will keep you in the green for most quests and mobs, depends how fast you're going for 85. I'm not really looking forward to being 85 and doing the 'end game shuffle' so I've turned off exp. every 5 levels or so while doing the zones.

Just feels more appropriate to fight mobs within a 3 level difference up or down than faceroll.
i wasnt aware of the turn-off xp feature untill recently or i would have used it.
one thing that bothered me was i would out level the dungeons for that content and couldnt use the dungeon finder. so once in a while ill track down the entrance to one to solo it.
i did this for classic dungeon mast achv and i feel the dungeons are just as important to the story and lore as the quests.

if i couldve it would have went like this :
all EK quests and dungeons complete
all kalimdor quests and dungeons complete
all outland quests and dungeons complete
etc,etc....
Bump for update:
http://ghostsofmidnight.com/Lorecraft/2011/12/03/southern-barrens/

muffalita mentioned doing all the dungeons in each area but I think I am going to go back after getting general Loremaster and do more of the blog that focuses on each dungeon and their lore as well as cool gear drops.
http://ghostsofmidnight.com/Lorecraft/2011/12/08/western-plaguelands/ bump for update. This time plaguelands.
Hey OP, good luck on the quest to level 85 ;)

I am curious though, what do you do when you encounter mobs (which grant experience) withing a zone but are not part of a quest? Will you kill them? Or will you run away and wait til they drop aggro?
To answer Zevras. I kill anything I aggro unless I am in a hurry. I am trying to do each zone like a normal player would actually do the zone so that way I can give feedback in the blog similar to how they would experience it. In fact my one death sadly this entire run so far was caused by a combination of my wife slowing the internet with Netflix and me being a ballsy druid and thinking I could take an elite that aggroed me which I didn't need to kill.

Bump for update.
