Which Tenacity Pet has the best survivability

Hunter
I'm thinking in terms of leveling... which tenacity pet is the best for leveling in terms of survivability? I'm thinking turtle for the shield wall or bear for the 10% damage reduction roar. Would love some feedback.
Both turtles and beetles have the same shield wall cool down. Technically they make the best tanks, though you can easily level with any tenacity pet.

What about bears, are Turtles/Beetles more survivable than the Bears 10% reduction? Roar has a lower cooldown than the shield wall. I'm not sure if anyone has the math behind it.
I don't believe anyone has done the math either. Most soloing guides advocate using turtles/beetles at endgame for raids/heroics. The nice thing about he turtle's ability is that it's a situational cooldown as opposed to a continual debuff, which makes it nicer for soloing elites. I can say from personal experience, Shell Shield has saved me multiple times while soloing.
In the case of defensive cooldowns, it's almost always better to have a large, on-demand damage reduction ability instead of a smaller, sustained damage reduction ability. Unlike DPS, tanking is inherently spikey, and you want to have the tools to stop the big damage attacks when they are used. While a Bear probably is better for your everyday needs, anything that can put your pet under 50% health is better tanked with a Turtle or Beetle.

So you would say a Bear is better as a leveling/questing tank while a Turtle/Beetle is better for boss tanking?
Turtle reduce all damage, bear reduce only physical damage... so turtle win

That's not a bad way to think about it, though either pet is more than fine for leveling/questing.

But consider using both. Spec a bear for greater damage, and spec a turtle for greater survivability. When you're soloing especially difficult content, use the turtle. When you just want to get through your kill quests quickly, use the bear.

Since the change to pets, don't they do the same damage?

Pretty much. There isn't much left in the open world that can still kill you or your pet. Raid bosses, on the other hand, are still quite dangerous.
What about boars? Boars use to be the best in the game was this changed after pando?
As of right now, my bear has AMAZING survivability. I can even leave him to fend for himself in PvP situations and he usually does pretty well.
it is confirmed by most hunters that a shale spider is the best solo pet atm due to both a shell shield and they basically give you blessing of kings

in 6.1, if that spirit mend buff stays, they will probably trump the shale spider
doesn't matter. use the pet with the buff/ability you want. they are all equal really with things like glyph of mend pet, spirit bond and that other glyph that gives 10% healing to you and the pet. the pet won't die even on tough wod elites regardless of your spec.

the bm spirit beast heal is something that comes in handy on YOU in some situations, but does not trump what a glyphed mend pet does. however, it does allow you to glyph for dispelling and combine that heal with mend pet if you need to cheese some old content.

given the pvp implications of bm hunters having a stronger heal i don't anticipate that buff sticking.

Boars were the best pet in the game when they were the only pet that had access to "Charge". That changed in WOTLK when they gave it to all tenacity pets.
If you're a beastmaster, I recommend using a shale spider. You get stats + crit, and it has it's own survivability buff.
All pets can spec tenacity and leveling with any pet works since this game is faceroll now. Nothing should be a problem.
I love my bear, he is the first pet I got at level 11 and he is having no trouble with anything so far in the 100+ range
I always went with Ferocity pets / cats for solo and for elite quest or whatever I'd switch to a Tenacity pet..usually a bear, direhorn or turtle. Switching pets though was very very rarely ever needed..my cat would do just fine with me keeping heals up on him.

If he did happen to die i'd just pop phoenix and FD so he could get aggro again and finish off whatever i was fighting. If your target is not immune to traps you can also trap them and heal your pet then continue dps afterwards.
