Holy Paladin Leveling Issue

Since dynamic loot rewards require you to adhere to a particular spec in order to obtain upgrades, I have been leveling as Holy. I have only one issue, and that is the lack on any type of effective AoE ability.

To those who will say "Seal of Righteousness" , this is not effective as it deals about 100-200 damage per hit. Not enough to take down a group of mobs that are intended to be AoE'd down.

I was nearly killed by a pack of tiny baby level 86 insects in The Valley of the Four Winds, as they apply a stacking debuff in addition to their melee damage. Take into account the level 86 regular mob I was killing for a quest, and I nearly died, as I had to single target each one down, and there were about 8-10.

I am not saying Holy needs a spammable AoE ability, but just giving us back Consecrate OR Holy Wrath would really go a long way, and I don't feel that it would become an issue in PvP or PvE. We don't really need both, just something to help out on packs of mobs that are clearly intended to be AoE'd down for quests.

I doubt we would see any forum posts about "I was killed by a Holy Paladin earlier because I stood in 6 casts of his consecrate without moving out of it or healing myself. NERF HOLY PALADIN AOE DPS".

And yes, I realize there is a level 90 talent that does exactly what I am asking for. But it does not do much to alleviate the 1-85 grind, which is my current issue.

Cheers and happy raiding!
I had the exact same problem! I really wish there is something we can do about that =/
I totally agree

If only i just have Consecrate when leveling , it would make leveling alot easier

IMO its fun to be holy (at my level) but im hugely lacking on a AoE skill :{
I'm just rocking it in Ret. Most of the quest gear is like 388, so even if you only had raid finder gear from cata you won't be getting many upgrades from quests.

My strategy is to just get up to 90 playing ret, then hop into healing some heroics to get my raid gear ready.
I love holy . I've leveled holy since level 1. I rolled Tiraslin way back just after Burning Crusade came out... and she's always leveled holy. So far I'm finding this the least painful of any expansion. That said, I do have a couple things I've noticed.

First, as you mentioned, AoE kills are completely off the table. Second, am I overlooking something or do we just not have a damage dump for holy power? It is all well and fine to keep throwing heals on myself but they do nothing to really help kill anything. And the quest rewards are spec-specific, so I'm not too keen on running around ret except when I'm in dungeons (the spec-swapping got very, very old... particularly on a PvP server).

I wouldn't say either issue is game-breaking (at least not yet) but they're definitely putting a bit of a damper on my enjoyment, particularly in comparison to, say, my resto shaman, resto druid, and priest, all of whom can do a lot more gear-sharing between damage and healing specs.

Yes, all those specs at level 1.
Obviously I got my first talent point at level 10, which was what, one hour into playing, Baustert. Thanks for pointing out the obvious (and I'd like to point out that back then you chose talent points and picked gear according to your goals.. and I went immediately for +spellpower).
I would be perfectly fine having one of the two back, OR having Holy Radiance do some sort of AoE damage so they don't have to revamp the entire toolkit.

I can't see them giving us a damaging spell as a HP dump (or at least one that does any significant amount of damage) simply because of how much we get. Solo or small group questing usually keeps my bars full so I'd be able to use whatever ability they give us with frightening regularity.

I do quests in Prot (now Ret as a test) and then when I see a nice iLvl I switch across to my Holy Spec and talk to them again, get my holy piece, switch back to Prot/Ret and go back on my way.
Just make Seal of Righteousness effect our cast spells like shock/denounce. Pretty easy fix, IMO.

I just leveled as Ret. If there was a quest reward I didn't think was a big enough upgrade, I'd swap specs to holy, turn in the quest, get the item for Holy, and then swap back to ret. It takes 10 seconds and isn't hard.

Once you get to the last zone or two, the quest rewards aren't dynamic anymore, and you can just choose the one you want.

1. Nearly died is not dying.

2. You nearly died as a Holy Pally there? i did them as level 86 and had a pack of those and 2 of the big mobs on me at once.
Are you not using a spec that has the offensive DPs glyphs in use?

3. You are allowed to heal yourself and even bubble if need be.
I haven't had many problems, annoying yes, but not a big deal.

It's not exactly a great leveling spec, but I didn't wanna play Ret.

Takes a bit longer, just gotta do it.

Problem is, if you've talented for Eternal Flame, this won't help you much.

You can change spec at turn-in.
Just FYI in the later zones you get to choose your quest reward between one of three items, one for each spec. I leveled Prot/Ret and used all the 414 ilevel stuff for that to level with and at 89 took all the 437 greens for main spec holy. Worked great.
What Divinity said. I leveled as ret and for the blue/higher quality items they offered the 3 spec gear choices and I'd choose holy. I'm finishing dread wastes and they offer all 3 spec rewards. And yes, leveling as holy has been terrible for the last two expansions. The last time it was viable was wrath (I loved it, a little slower but could take on just about anything).

I tried doing dailies yesterday in holy while waiting for Q to pop...oh my gawd. No. Just...no. I wasn't killable but taking 4x as long just means you'll be doing dailies forever. :/
I've made no less than three youtube videos on this subject, and have been posting here there and everywhere to try to get Blizzard to do something about this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM31fhQyb6o
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmZZ1RT2_OI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RBgQhycr9U

Seriously, if a developer is reading this, try out The Rumpus quest in the Jade Forest monastery as a holy paladin. For those of you who don't know, that's a quest where you get zerged by a whole bunch of low-HP, easy-to-kill enemies. It'll be extremely annoying to kill them without an AoE damage ability.

I'm worried that Blizzard will wait until Patch 5.1 to do something about it; I figure they're going to do a patch 5.0.7 or something like it to fix minor issues that have come up since launch, and I'm crossing my fingers that, in that patch, they make Consecration and/or Holy Wrath available to holy.
Nothing has been "impossible" as holy thus far, but it is really clear when you watch someone else with AoE do a given encounter that it was definitely not designed with single target DPS in mind. The grummle escorts come to mind, as there are a bunch of mobs you have to deal with and single targetting them takes FOREVER.

It's annoying, but not gamebreaking.
