You just need to replace where you put in "us.actual.battle.net" with "enUS.patch.battle.net

Yes, I mentioned that I did try a telnet to the patch url (enUS.patch.battle.net) and it was unsuccessful. Couldn't go through. Which is the issue with both me and beastlier apparantly and thousands of others.

Depending on how the heuristic scanning of certain antiviral/security software works it's fully possible. We've had that sort of software before block tools updates and patch updates.

I guess it might be possible but like I said, anything and everything that could possibly affect the connection, I disabled/uninstalled it. I still couldn't connect to the patch server.

But weren't the files you linked the actual patch files ? Like all of them ? As in no need to download anything more ? Why then does bypassing the launcher not work ? Why does it still say patch required ?
Still seeing an inability to contact the patch server here.

Are you on a Campus or University network ?

Any security , firewall or any other software at your end that could be blocking this ?

I'm not on a campus of anything right now just at home. The only firewall that I can think of is one on my network provider's modem but I don't think that's it because a friend of mine updated on my network when the patch came out so my network should be fine. I've updated the windows firewalls to allow exceptions that blizzard requires.
Is there any way to start windows 8 in safe mode with Internet connectivity? I took out my non-windows startup programs and that didn't do anything but was thinking that booting in safe mode and trying to update like that would be more thorough. Let me know if I'm wrong or that's even possible..

Sigh, I don't think I can take much more of this. My game time will run out soon so if blizz doesn't come up with a fix by then i'll assume they don't want my business.
Still watching this thread guys. I'm at work atm and have some data entry to do before the work databases shut down for weekly backup. I do have some suggestions to try but am limited in my ability to check what may or may not work because there any many things blocked for me at work.
Finally home from work. Totally forgot I had a training meeting on after finishing my shift. Didn't help that I jumped on Diablo 3 as soon as I got home to ... um ... test something then lost track of time ?

Sorry guys :(

Was the IP address for enUS.patch.battle.net 12.129.206.133 ? Would you be able to pastebin the output from the telnet ?

Also have you tried telnetting to enGB.patch.battle.net?

If you do decide to switch the patch servers make sure you take a copy of your battle.net and world of warcraft folder first. I'm not sure if that'll start patching you to enGB or not. Also try copying the enUS folder in the Data folder and renaming it to enGB before attempting things on the enGB patch server.

But do advise if you can contact the enGB patch server and I'll see if I can confirm someway if that means it'll start patching you downloading the enGB locale files or it'll respect your locale settings.

It's possible it still needs to connect for purely validation purposes. Unless of course there's something in your wow folder that shouldn't be there.

Would you be able to make a file listing of your wow folder ? As well as confirming what versions the programs in your wow folder are at ?

Have you tried getting them back at your place and just copying the wow folder over ? Make sure to back up your UI first by backing up the WTF and Interface folders on your copy so you can restore them afterwards.
All I did was delete
wow-0-16357-Win-final.MPQ
wow-0-16309-Win-final.MPQ
And used the repair tool. Then it started downloading again and now it works? Is that all I really have to do or is there more to it?
A listing of my wow folder ? What do you mean ? Like type out all the files that I have in there ? And which programs do you need the versions for ? The WoW application is 5.1.0.16309 and the launcher is 1.0.0.1113.. dunnu if that helps. Lemme know what you need specifically.

After a quick glance though, I'm missing files in the data folder. You only linked to three files, i believe (unless I missed something). MPQ files that go in Updates , Data, and Data->enUS.

But I see similar files under Data -> Cache, and Data -> Cache -> enUS. For both of those folders the highest mpq file is 16309. Any way to get 16357 versions of those files ?

Oh and forgot to mention, the telnet doesn't work to either enUS or enGB. It just freezes and then does nothing. And trace routes time out as well. Telnet works for us.logon.battle.net, but none of the patch sites.
I have similar issues to you Gettafix. I have tried many of the things in this thread. I do not appear to be able to telnet into the server. I unistalled wow, and am trying to reinstall, but the launcher from the get go has no connection, so it just gives the "a communication error has occurred, please restart" popup.

I have a second PC, which i can't really play this game on anymore, but it was still installed. I was able to patch up from Cata to MOP (it ran the optimizer) and it launched the game fine. I noticed that it had in the battle.net folder the older version of agent and client, and also the new ones.

I use windows update to manage updates to both machines, the one i can't use got a security update to IE 9 on 12/13. I've played wow since then on the machine....I'm upgrading my other machine now, and we can see if it no longer connects. I've tried to connect to the game with my Norton360 off...makes no difference.

Update: patched my second computer up with win update. Received all updates that my main computer has. I've logged in to wow just fine on this second computer.

Just needing to know if there's anything in there that shouldn't that may be causing an issue with updating. Easiest way would be to open the wow folder , change the view to detailed view (ie listing file names and modification dates , sizes) then take a screenshot. Do ones of all the folders you see if you can (eg Data , Updates , Funny Temp folders you find there) and upload it to dropcanvas.com noting the URLs down in a text file if you can.

I know it's a big ask but I'm wanting to rule out anything odd in there causing the agent. Been basing things on things in the battle.net folder here and I'm getting a little stuck as to what to try next here.

Anything in the Cache folders should get recreated on Log on. Somethings causing it not to apply the 16357 build files.

Wait it freezes ? I'll admit here I'm on OS X here so I'm not sure what it's meant to output on windows. I need to start up my Windows VM box to see what a successful output on Windows is. BBL on that >_>

You are doing it to port 1119 right ?

I don't getafix's mentioned getting a communication error at all as yet. So I don't think it's the same issue here.

But good thing you got yours fixed. Another way would be if one computer's updated it's wow just fine just copy the World of Warcraft folder over.
if it freezes it means it's not able to connect through that port. But I can't even download MoP on my laptop. So dunnu what's up.

And well technically, every one of those files I downloaded gets populated when I logon. That wasn't my point. Maybe the reason it says 'patch required' when I bypass the launcher is that those files are missing and it thinks it's not completely patched up. So if there is a way to get a copy of those files, maybe once it goes through the 'validation' process, it'll find all the required files present and will let me log in. Just a thought.

I'll have those screenshots soon, been busy with work. I doubt anything odd is in there though, everything seems standard.

Edit: Nevermind the cache files. Got them from a friend, but didn't work.

Hmmm.

Latest Launcher should be 1.1.0.1276

About the only thing I can think to do is to :

1) Make a backup copy of your SetupWin.mpq file
2) Download an updated copy from : http://patchup.info/Blizz/tools/Win/
3) Drop it in the wow replacing the one's that's there.
4) Delete patch.mpq in the wow folder
5) Delete the Updates folder there.
6) Start from the Launcher.

Oh and restart before doing all that.
Hi there, so I've been getting the checking for updates error for a while and decided to just uninstall WoW and install it once again. After downloading the actual installer it then again stays stuck on the checking for updates (tried running it as admin) and it doesn't do anything. I went through all this process and also checked some older posts where it suggests deleting the battle.net folder and still nothing. I'm going to add that I closed background apps and closed my firewall. Is this the right log that I am supposed to post?
