Looking for Mage advice on Garalon

Mage
Our guild has killed Garalon before, but we have a lot of trouble repeating it unfortunately. The cause is often low dps, as we hit berserk right at 1-2% a lot of the time. So we need to improve our raid DPS.

Our mage is pretty low on DPS for a lot of pulls, but also at the same time he is kiting too. Anyone have good tips to improve his damage on these fights? Any good tricks to keep up DPS while moving? I apologize in advance I don't know much about mage mechanics, so I'm just looking for a few tips to improve my raid.

Here are 3 logs where we each had 1-2% wipes:

Okay I'll do my best here.

First: stop having your DPS kite the pheremones. You have 3 healers and 2 tanks. Have 2 healers and both the tanks kite and the tank in the best DPS gear switch to DPS spec while he kites. In our guild we have our Resto Druid, Holy Pally, Blood DK and Brewmaster switch to WW and take the pheremones. This will give all of your DPS better uptimes (including your mage) and push the enrage timer further away. The enrage time will -always- be an issue as long as you're making your DPS kite.

Second: Frost is the worst spec your mage can be for Garalon. Source: http://www.raidbots.com/dpsbot/Garalon/10N/all/7/30/default/. While Fire isn't substantially better for Garalon than Frost, Arcane is. The longer your Mage stays Frost, the further behind he will be. Frost only has 1 scale factor after they reach 28% crit, while Fire has exponential scaling and Arcane just scales normally. This means as your guild gets better gear, Fire and Arcane are going to pull further and further ahead of frost.

Third: Accept that your Ranged DPS are going to be humiliated on Garalon. It is a melee fight, period. As a ranged DPS you can either just attack the body for normal DPS moving into the legs when they are convenient or try to move with the melee and maintain your rotation. Neither prospect leads to impressive DPS (as you can see from Hunter DPS which is fully mobile).
Moving on to your mage specifically:

There are reforging, enchanting and gemming that can be improved. I'm looking at a >2% improvement in his stats by correcting these mistakes.

There is an easy link for him to get his gear in order.

His leg damage is very very low. In my guild we have the ranged stack in the center and only move into the legs when its convenient. We didn't parse Garalon this week, but for last week here's our parse:

http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-izd305f4vnqnyk3o/details/1/?s=3034&e=3423.

As you can see my leg damage is about 41%. This is using a strategy where you don't go out of your way to get into the legs. So 7% means he's not getting under ANY of the legs, maybe off the pull but that's it. That needs to change.

He's using Incanter's Ward which is fine I guess. I don't use it, you might talk him into using Evocation. If this is still a tough fight I'm sure your healers would appreciate the 40% of health he gets every completed evocate.

Based on the length of the fight it looks like he's underutilizing Freeze. Over the course of the fight (the parse I looked at was 7:20) he should have about 36 freezes, he has 20. Without seeing the actual fight I can only speculate that he's either using freeze on CD even when no legs are up (giving up 1 FoF proc) or not keeping it on cooldown. This is just speculation though, he could be using it flawlessly, just had long respawn times between the legs.
Thanks very much for the advice. As far as low leg damage, we were having ranged help with initial legs on the pull then focusing mostly on the body, except for one of the hunters.

Edit: I will have to ask him about arcane. I remember he really dislikes raiding as fire. From what I can remember he does every boss as frost just about.

Right, we use a strategy where we focus on the body too, but if the leg is up 3 feet away from you its throwing damage out the window to ignore it.

Yeah that's a good point. Thanks for the advice we're going to make some changes for our next raid.
